[00:00:01.689] All right, good morning everybody and welcome [00:00:04.009] to our discover Gale LegalForms. [00:00:06.519] Uh, webinar, I'm Stacey Knibloe [00:00:08.560] your Gale trainer from Massachusetts [00:00:10.569] and glad to be with you virtually [00:00:12.698] today to take a look at this really [00:00:14.989] um exciting resource for your [00:00:17.039] libraries. This is one of the additions [00:00:19.649] to the Massachusetts contract this year. [00:00:21.829] So, um, [00:00:23.429] we wanna make sure you're comfortable with it [00:00:26.399] and feel good, uh, sending your, [00:00:28.780] your patrons and uh, uh, [00:00:31.190] any other users to it, we're [00:00:33.569] gonna spend most of our time live in the resource. [00:00:36.200] But I thought to get started, we just give a quick [00:00:38.259] review of what's available in Massachusetts [00:00:40.509] from Gale uh, through the statewide library [00:00:42.700] program. And then just a slide, [00:00:45.219] uh, one slide about Gale LegalForms [00:00:47.340] kind of let you know what's there. But then of course we're gonna, [00:00:50.029] go right into it and show you what's [00:00:52.090] there. Uh, and then as always, we'll wrap [00:00:54.168] up with support, both the support you can [00:00:56.240] get from Massachusetts library system, but also [00:00:58.368] from gale, we want to make sure you've got all [00:01:00.408] your avenues covered and have no shortage [00:01:02.429] of places to go for help. So as [00:01:04.719] we're going through, do feel free to ask [00:01:07.069] questions anytime. Um [00:01:09.459] use the chat or the Q and a and actually [00:01:11.540] let me double check the chat because it had been [00:01:13.599] set [00:01:15.480] Yes, Sorry folks, I'm having to reset it every [00:01:17.750] webinar so now you can chat with me. [00:01:19.778] I apologize. I should have checked that earlier. [00:01:22.219] It keeps defaulting to not letting you chat with [00:01:24.230] anybody. [00:01:25.159] Uh but now you should be able to uh chat with [00:01:27.260] the host. So [00:01:28.489] uh I think we're in good shape [00:01:33.109] All right, [00:01:34.680] Sorry, I wanted to double check that, but do feel free to ask [00:01:36.778] questions there, but also just give any feedback [00:01:39.159] or if you see something on the screen you want to know more about. [00:01:41.439] Just let me know as we go through. [00:01:43.489] Um I will mention there's some work [00:01:45.500] being done on my street. So I apologize if [00:01:47.599] you're picking up any background noise, I'm right [00:01:50.079] in front of my window, so hopefully [00:01:52.180] it's not uh, squeaking through, but [00:01:54.418] uh, I apologize in advance if it is [00:01:57.058] All right, so let's go ahead and dive in. [00:02:00.219] And again, wanted to give a quick overview of [00:02:02.260] what's available from Gale through the Massachusetts [00:02:05.138] um statewide library program and [00:02:07.579] you have a lot of resources that have been available [00:02:10.080] for years and then some new additions [00:02:12.118] of Gale LegalForms being one of them. [00:02:14.500] Uh but wanted to give just this quick slide [00:02:16.538] uh to speak to uh everything. [00:02:18.558] You've got a wide variety of content, [00:02:21.389] you know? [00:02:22.629] really. Something for everybody. Uh So [00:02:25.409] we're of course gonna focus on the one but [00:02:27.588] uh do feel free if there's anything you got [00:02:29.758] questions about it, you can certainly ask today or [00:02:31.990] you'll get my follow up email tomorrow and we'll have [00:02:34.129] all of our contact info and lots of good links [00:02:36.189] for uh information. [00:02:39.520] pardon me. [00:02:41.610] samples. [00:02:43.490] Here we go. So to find uh your [00:02:45.990] links for all the resources, whether the [00:02:48.099] ones you've had or just the new ones, you can of course [00:02:50.288] always visit the M. B. L. C. Site. [00:02:52.588] They've done such a nice job, kind of making [00:02:54.788] it easy to get all your links. There's a troubleshooters [00:02:57.308] guide uh can reach out with questions [00:02:59.830] and then of course the um links [00:03:02.338] that you get here offer the [00:03:04.368] geo authentication so that [00:03:07.399] if your users are in Massachusetts when they [00:03:09.479] click these links, they're just gonna land right [00:03:11.550] in the database there no other form of authentication [00:03:13.729] is required. So a really [00:03:15.990] handy feature, you can then use [00:03:18.080] these links of course, wherever you like. [00:03:20.159] They're of course, you know, a good fit on your web pages. [00:03:22.580] But uh, libraries often tweet them or [00:03:24.778] maybe you put them on Q. R. Codes around the library [00:03:27.139] to send folks to resources. So that [00:03:29.360] might be a nice idea for the LegalForms resource [00:03:31.899] if you've got a section in the library. uh [00:03:34.008] around legal help. Great [00:03:36.129] idea to point users to this resource. So [00:03:38.979] all of that, you know, still kind of the same paths [00:03:41.139] you've been taking [00:03:42.360] with the statewide resources. [00:03:44.469] Uh Just of course has the new additions [00:03:48.469] All right, so let's get in here and talk [00:03:50.819] about Gale LegalForms. [00:03:53.258] So this database is very well made. [00:03:55.319] That's exactly what it's made up of [00:03:57.349] is legal forms. We partner [00:03:59.659] with a third party U. S. LegalForms [00:04:01.758] dot com that out in kind [00:04:03.808] of the commercial world, offers a subscription [00:04:06.129] based tool for these, these legal forms, but [00:04:08.258] we partner with them to provide it in libraries. [00:04:10.490] So there's no cost to your end user [00:04:13.118] and you get access to these forms [00:04:15.360] that have been used by attorneys then [00:04:17.379] used in the courts and folks can [00:04:19.459] find these, fill them [00:04:21.509] out and kind of save themselves [00:04:23.920] maybe on some lawyers fees and take [00:04:26.088] care of issues on their own. [00:04:27.879] You've got a blend of forms here that [00:04:29.970] are kind of nationwide or multistate [00:04:32.329] and then those that are state specific as [00:04:34.459] well. So you all have the Massachusetts [00:04:36.579] version of this resource of course. And [00:04:38.649] I'll point out how you can tell the difference between [00:04:40.838] those [00:04:41.959] along with all of the legal [00:04:44.238] forms themselves. You also have a lot [00:04:46.449] of other types of forms in the resource. [00:04:48.858] So there are, [00:04:51.420] Even things like employment applications, [00:04:53.678] checklists, sample letters. [00:04:55.959] Um, so along with the things that always have to [00:04:57.980] do with legal matters, there are other things that kind [00:05:00.059] of come along with that, uh, but also [00:05:02.250] just could be used, say by a small business owner. [00:05:05.369] Um or really, you know, lots of other purposes. [00:05:07.970] So we'll explore those as well. [00:05:10.338] and then I think what is really [00:05:12.428] one of the most helpful places of the database [00:05:14.588] is, you know, legal issues are tricky. [00:05:16.879] I remember being at the reference desk and it seemed [00:05:19.069] like folks are basically looking for legal advice [00:05:21.420] and that's not really, you know, the role [00:05:23.559] of the library. So [00:05:25.040] you'll find lots of guidance here. There are lots [00:05:27.230] of legal overviews. There's a, like [00:05:29.459] a legal dictionary, there's even [00:05:31.778] a Q. And a tool where you can see [00:05:33.939] questions that have been submitted to U. [00:05:36.040] S. LegalForms and the answers provided. [00:05:38.608] So, There's a lot of help around [00:05:41.178] this content in the database for what can be, [00:05:43.500] you know, kind of a tricky area. [00:05:45.619] So this is a great place [00:05:47.829] for you to be able to kind of avoid having [00:05:50.149] to give legal advice and point users [00:05:52.470] in the right direction to this resource and [00:05:54.488] all the support it provides. So [00:05:57.009] we're gonna get in there and look around. We [00:05:59.129] don't want to spend too much time here in the power point. [00:06:01.449] So let me go ahead and move on. [00:06:04.579] and get logged in. [00:06:08.358] Now let me actually make I'm gonna make [00:06:10.399] my screen a little bit bigger for your end of the [00:06:12.428] webinar. [00:06:13.329] Um [00:06:14.720] The home page. Really like [00:06:16.759] a lot of Gale databases gives you the option [00:06:19.059] of diving right in with a search or browsing [00:06:21.338] around. [00:06:22.439] I'm always a fan of browsing. I think [00:06:24.540] it's handy particularly for library [00:06:26.559] staff so you can kind of get an idea of what's here [00:06:28.798] and when you want to use it, [00:06:30.350] But I think it's especially important in the legal database [00:06:32.910] because we don't know what we [00:06:34.970] don't know. And the browse tool [00:06:37.170] really lets you see what's [00:06:39.298] available for all of these different legal [00:06:41.470] issues. So you might discover something [00:06:43.588] you didn't know you maybe needed, uh [00:06:45.649] which is I think really handy. So [00:06:47.670] we're definitely gonna take advantage of the browse. [00:06:50.019] Uh, but just explain the layout here a little bit. [00:06:53.129] you've got that extra help [00:06:55.358] over here in the upper left hand corner. [00:06:57.730] This will follow us through the resource so [00:06:59.769] we can jump right in to say the um [00:07:02.230] uh legal definitions tool if we need it [00:07:04.238] when we're looking at a form. Uh always [00:07:06.259] just a click away. [00:07:07.980] Uh, I am not gonna start with a search because that's [00:07:10.129] how folks tend to start in any resource. [00:07:12.420] They see a search box and they go for it. They know what [00:07:14.480] they're after. Uh, so we're gonna dive [00:07:16.819] in right there and just look for [00:07:20.540] Elise and [00:07:24.488] the database is organized. The results [00:07:26.809] I should say are organized. [00:07:29.189] by categories. [00:07:31.319] So you'll see, I kind [00:07:33.470] of scrolled down a bit more so you can see a bit [00:07:35.488] more of the forms that are offered, [00:07:38.738] The categories are a bit more general [00:07:40.850] and I think a bit more natural language [00:07:43.170] where the form itself is gonna kind of have [00:07:45.209] to use that legally is the [00:07:47.250] categories are more what you might think to search [00:07:49.579] by. Uh So I appreciate kind of [00:07:51.670] the uh options here. What we're also [00:07:53.970] gonna see is the brows tool uses [00:07:56.230] these categories as well. So you can kind of drill [00:07:58.399] down into them [00:08:00.178] and it's a really thorough search. It [00:08:02.500] will help you out if you maybe misspell [00:08:04.639] or have a typo um, it [00:08:06.798] is searching both the category names [00:08:08.959] and the form names and [00:08:11.079] along with those form names. [00:08:13.629] Let me point out. they're all assigned [00:08:16.129] a control number here. Now, that [00:08:18.290] number doesn't really mean much out in the [00:08:20.309] world. It's kind of how they get kept [00:08:22.369] track of in the database, but [00:08:24.509] it does tell us something important about [00:08:26.670] the form, any of these that start [00:08:28.889] with an M. A. [00:08:31.488] Have been used or prepared [00:08:33.750] for Massachusetts. [00:08:35.509] Ok, what you'll see later [00:08:37.529] in the results. Let me get rid of those circles [00:08:39.668] so I can actually show you I'm just gonna [00:08:41.678] move ahead a few pages. Well, [00:08:43.969] several pages, I'll go ahead. So you can see them [00:08:46.580] is the forms that are multistate [00:08:49.190] are gonna start with the U. S. We [00:08:51.538] always push the state specific [00:08:53.759] forms to the top of your results and [00:08:55.788] then the multistate come after. So [00:08:58.080] of course lease is a pretty common term. [00:09:00.340] So we've got over 900 here [00:09:02.928] we can make it of course much more specific with a [00:09:04.950] search but [00:09:05.928] wanted to give you an idea. This does [00:09:08.070] a really, you know thorough search, [00:09:10.190] but it also is taking into account [00:09:12.658] what state you're in and your results to push [00:09:14.928] those that might be more relevant to [00:09:17.548] the top of the results. [00:09:19.149] Right? So something to keep an eye out for. Should [00:09:21.750] you ever have a Question about a specific form. [00:09:24.053] If you if you give us that control number, it makes [00:09:26.303] it easiest for easy for us to make sure [00:09:28.543] we know which one you're talking about, but it [00:09:30.764] doesn't really have any other impacts elsewhere. [00:09:33.234] You know, it's not going to get recognized [00:09:35.283] kind of outside of LegalForms. [00:09:39.469] So looking at this search, you [00:09:41.509] can see, I've of course got a lot of leases. [00:09:43.570] I was thinking, you know, kind of landlord tenant, [00:09:45.750] but there are lots of other leases out [00:09:47.808] there. My favorite, the one that comes up [00:09:49.889] um here, we always have [00:09:51.700] a lease agreement. So should [00:09:53.889] you need that, We've got it, [00:09:56.090] and if we scroll around again, looking at the categories, [00:09:58.889] we have lots of legal forms. [00:10:00.960] But then check these other options. So like landlord [00:10:03.359] tenant applications, we have a salary [00:10:05.769] verification form. So, [00:10:07.649] you know, maybe not a legal form per se, but [00:10:10.619] you know, something you might need as a, as [00:10:12.700] say, a landlord or need to fill out [00:10:14.750] as a tenant, that type of thing. [00:10:16.469] So you have a variety [00:10:18.869] here. We can break down commercial leases versus [00:10:21.158] say residential and just throwing [00:10:23.320] extra search terms in will help and narrow this [00:10:25.519] down or again, if we came through the browse [00:10:27.918] tool. [00:10:28.889] But I wanted to give you kind of an idea [00:10:30.950] of the scope of the resource. So there's [00:10:32.960] a lot of kind of interesting things here. So, [00:10:35.369] So we've got some landlord tenant [00:10:37.389] disputes notices and letters here. [00:10:39.849] So we've got a tenant who's maybe [00:10:42.389] up to something and we want to give them [00:10:44.889] a uh warning that their lease could be terminated. [00:10:47.558] We've got a form for that. So [00:10:49.639] often I start with a really broad [00:10:51.710] search. So you [00:10:53.519] so I can see kind of what's here relating [00:10:55.668] to this topic, but then you can always throw [00:10:57.830] in more search terms and make it more narrow. But let's [00:10:59.979] go ahead and take a look at this form. [00:11:02.889] and the forms are always [00:11:05.190] gonna come with a description [00:11:07.210] which is written for me as a regular [00:11:09.548] person because the form itself [00:11:11.658] of course may of course may have legal language [00:11:13.940] in it might be um you know [00:11:16.700] maybe a lot more words than I would think to say [00:11:18.940] something. Uh So the description is [00:11:21.070] a nice way to kind of get a brief [00:11:23.239] description or actually it could be a couple of paragraphs, [00:11:25.288] depends on the form, but [00:11:27.178] written for me is the non lawyer and [00:11:29.558] you can always get a little preview which I like because [00:11:31.820] if we download, it's gonna open up in word [00:11:34.029] or you know, wherever we may choose. P. D. [00:11:36.109] F. Takes a minute. The preview is nice. [00:11:38.190] It just loads really quickly so you can get a quick look to [00:11:40.229] decide if it's the thing you're looking for. [00:11:42.538] And then related definitions are also available. [00:11:45.519] So we can kind of open these up. [00:11:47.969] and they're just coming from the legal definitions tool. [00:11:50.769] So some additional helps to understand the form [00:11:52.788] you're working with [00:11:54.460] but of course we move on the real forms. [00:11:56.840] So you will see [00:11:59.038] um Spanish language versions of [00:12:01.200] various forms popping up. [00:12:03.320] Um We do have a current list but [00:12:05.759] they're adding this content in all the time. So [00:12:07.859] it's you know probably something we'll start [00:12:10.058] to update. [00:12:11.149] Um [00:12:12.389] uh what, not as frequently as they're [00:12:14.469] adding new forms just because it's happening so fast. [00:12:17.158] Uh but I'm certainly happy to make kind of that first version [00:12:19.469] available to you right now, [00:12:21.489] there isn't a way to specifically look [00:12:23.649] for forms in Spanish, although [00:12:26.080] some of them their titles are [00:12:28.320] in Spanish so you can search in Spanish and [00:12:30.369] find them, but uh they [00:12:32.408] are looking uh to create [00:12:35.298] a browse tool around the Spanish language [00:12:37.489] form. So something to keep an keep an eye [00:12:39.500] on. So [00:12:40.519] we're never done with our databases at Yale. Always [00:12:42.889] new things coming to them. But that's a more recent [00:12:45.058] addition and uh, functionality [00:12:47.178] will start tying into it soon as well. So content [00:12:49.918] is available in Spanish and then we're gonna [00:12:52.178] again make some additions so you can find it [00:12:54.389] um more easily, but it will just [00:12:56.619] kind of pop up with the other forms [00:12:58.899] here. and the forms [00:13:00.940] are gonna be available usually [00:13:03.029] in a couple of different formats. We [00:13:05.210] have usually Microsoft [00:13:07.519] word, rich text and you'll see [00:13:09.678] P. D. F. As well. [00:13:11.690] the nice thing about the rich text [00:13:14.048] and the M. S. Word and even some of the [00:13:16.460] uh, P D. F. S is [00:13:18.029] you can actively edit them. [00:13:20.070] Uh, in some cases you'll see samples, those [00:13:22.308] might be more in P. D. F. So you can just [00:13:24.379] get a look at them. But usually a few [00:13:26.440] different formats. Rich text will open [00:13:28.450] with any type of word formatting [00:13:30.639] or sorry, word processing, uh, software, [00:13:34.279] Microsoft word though very popular. So most [00:13:36.359] of the forms are gonna be available in that too. [00:13:39.058] and you just click there's unlimited downloads. [00:13:41.779] So no worries around that [00:13:44.460] download and open forms [00:13:46.658] as needed. [00:13:49.298] let me bring this one over. So you can see it [00:13:52.200] and the forms are [00:13:55.668] again they're to be customized and [00:13:57.729] used. So you can fill in the blanks here on [00:13:59.849] the form. [00:14:00.820] If someone's using a library computer, [00:14:02.849] they're probably gonna want to put that, Save it maybe to [00:14:04.969] a flash drive or upload it to the cloud [00:14:07.048] or something to kind of take it with them. Or [00:14:09.210] even just print it out if, if that's all they need. [00:14:11.808] Uh if they're on their own devices though, of course they can [00:14:13.928] keep this form, file it away, keep [00:14:16.109] it where they need it. [00:14:17.418] Uh, but very simple. You just, [00:14:19.479] you know, fill in the form [00:14:21.029] And again, if you've got questions, you can [00:14:23.168] always pop back to the resource. [00:14:25.229] Sorry, let me get back to the resource. [00:14:27.308] Take advantage of the legal definitions [00:14:29.389] tool. The law digest can be helpful in that [00:14:31.538] way too. [00:14:33.009] The legal life articles, we're gonna look at all [00:14:35.090] of these, but [00:14:36.038] there's a lot of additional help for kind of questions [00:14:38.570] around what folks are using [00:14:40.408] and what you'll also see [00:14:42.500] go back out to the results here. [00:14:44.690] Oh no, sorry. I think I jumped all the way back to the home page [00:14:49.570] back to the results [00:14:51.298] something you'll also see. Let me scroll [00:14:53.440] up. I think we had an example up front here [00:14:57.469] You might see a couple different versions [00:14:59.969] of a form [00:15:01.969] So commercial building or space lease Massachusetts? [00:15:04.460] Commercial lease package, [00:15:06.038] which of these do I need? It's really [00:15:08.090] gonna be up to the user. Now, the packages [00:15:10.389] are nice. Let me pop into this so I can show these [00:15:12.808] they group together forms. You may [00:15:14.908] need multiple forms. You may need, or [00:15:17.418] different options, um, or even [00:15:19.788] a couple different versions of the form. [00:15:22.158] So you have, [00:15:24.428] this kind of wealth package as they call it. [00:15:26.440] It's again, well named here in the resource, [00:15:28.849] um, a package of forms to work with, so you [00:15:30.869] don't have to go looking elsewhere. So this [00:15:33.119] is the other type of thing I like when they're grouping [00:15:35.288] the forms together is you get things like the questionnaires, [00:15:37.899] letters, those flow into here too. [00:15:40.379] So again, you kind of discover content [00:15:42.940] uh, using the browse tool, but also [00:15:45.009] in the package components, because it's just putting together [00:15:47.379] things you might use all together [00:15:50.058] so there are all, well, you know [00:15:52.109] what, let me, let me put a pin in that we'll come back [00:15:54.340] and talk about the uh online versions [00:15:56.658] of the forms uh a little later. [00:15:59.519] but [00:16:00.840] again, really handy. The packages put [00:16:02.918] together a nice group. So, [00:16:05.619] but again, you can always search for something more [00:16:07.750] specific. So say we're looking to lease a condo [00:16:10.369] or create a, a lease for a condo. [00:16:13.649] I can search on that and of course that cuts [00:16:15.739] our heads way down. I think we had over 900 before [00:16:17.830] now. We've just got nine. [00:16:19.558] And what it's also gonna [00:16:21.739] do is I mentioned before, it helps with spelling. [00:16:24.190] It also uses implied truncation. [00:16:26.369] So, I searched on condo it found [00:16:28.408] condominium, so really helpful search [00:16:30.729] engine here. [00:16:32.029] So we've got um a boat dock [00:16:34.070] lease if we need it in a condominium but [00:16:36.389] uh going through again, which one do [00:16:38.460] I need? That's when you get the users to kind of jump [00:16:40.879] in and take a look and pick [00:16:43.090] the one that's right for them. And again, because [00:16:45.099] they're all editable [00:16:47.908] Just open this one up [00:16:54.469] you know, of course, things like names, dates, [00:16:56.590] all of that have got these blanks so you can fill [00:16:58.729] them in, but [00:17:00.379] you know, you can adjust other things as well if there's, [00:17:02.558] you know, an additional, [00:17:04.390] you know, rule you have for the condo, [00:17:06.459] you can always add on to these. It's again [00:17:08.509] all completely editable. So [00:17:10.848] yours to work with as needed. Or your [00:17:13.410] users were uh needs uh met [00:17:15.759] as well. [00:17:19.680] So it's pretty straightforward working with the [00:17:21.799] forms. Oh and good. And we've got another one in [00:17:23.848] Spanish here. So let me just actually show open [00:17:25.989] that up and give you a look [00:17:30.368] So these will pop up more and more. [00:17:33.108] The other thing you're gonna see more and more of [00:17:38.630] back to the database here, [00:17:40.180] I don't think we have too many for Massachusetts [00:17:42.739] right now but you'll start to see them flow in [00:17:45.660] our um [00:17:47.259] completed samples from real [00:17:49.939] uh cases. Um they, [00:17:52.818] you know, block out identifying details [00:17:54.900] generally, but often the completed, [00:17:57.140] the other completed samples you'll find are [00:17:59.160] just examples, but they're building [00:18:01.789] in and I apologize. I'm forgetting the name for them. [00:18:03.880] I think I've got it in my notes here. Let me double check. [00:18:06.239] Still pretty new. [00:18:09.180] Oh no, it looks like I don't have it here. [00:18:11.348] Um, but [00:18:12.939] you'll see more of these in the resource. So [00:18:15.039] it's, you know, examples of things that [00:18:17.088] have actually kind of gone through the legal process [00:18:19.779] uh in real life. So those [00:18:21.809] will pop up here too as they, as they've come [00:18:23.828] into the database. Um, Oh [00:18:25.959] I do remember what they're called. Sample cases where [00:18:28.209] you'll actually see it. Let me go back [00:18:30.469] out to the results list is you'll actually [00:18:32.680] see sample cases listed in the header. [00:18:35.890] So these are very new. They just started [00:18:38.059] loading them uh, within the last [00:18:40.088] month or so. So didn't have [00:18:42.150] one to show you for um, for Massachusetts, [00:18:44.650] but where they'll pop up is again, you'll see them [00:18:46.689] in a category. Uh, sample case [00:18:49.108] is the designation they're using. [00:18:52.358] All right. So let's take a look [00:18:54.368] at some of the other content and the research. Oh, [00:18:56.750] there we have something in the channel. [00:18:58.578] What is E. S. P. News? Oh, I believe. [00:19:01.199] Let me pop back into that form. [00:19:06.709] I you know what I'm not gonna say just in [00:19:08.750] case I haven't opened those ones, those [00:19:11.259] ones in a while as you go to the I think [00:19:13.650] you just get [00:19:15.309] just make sure [00:19:19.650] Yeah, it's in both. That's what I thought [00:19:21.660] it was. But I wanted to double check. You get it in both [00:19:23.779] English and Spanish. So you get both versions. [00:19:25.890] So say maybe you're the landlord [00:19:28.150] you speak Spanish, you've got the form in that [00:19:30.189] maybe you're renting someone who speaks English, you've [00:19:32.279] got it in both versions here [00:19:34.809] and these are, I should mention, these [00:19:37.259] are hand translated. This [00:19:39.269] isn't something that a machine has translated. [00:19:41.588] This is actually written uh [00:19:44.559] you know, with [00:19:46.078] a Spanish speaker, [00:19:48.420] All right, [00:19:51.420] Oh, good question. [00:19:53.809] All right, So let's explore some of the other content. [00:19:56.410] Again, the forms [00:19:57.949] we hope pretty straightforward. [00:20:00.539] You know, some help for using them with [00:20:02.598] the description. But really you just download the [00:20:04.699] form and fill it out and make use of it. [00:20:07.729] So the Brunel tool, again, a favorite [00:20:10.239] spot of mine in the resource. [00:20:12.299] The most popular searches are often [00:20:14.709] handy as well because they kind of bring [00:20:16.729] back groups of documents too. So [00:20:18.769] say we're, you know, starting to explore [00:20:20.789] putting together a will we go into wills [00:20:23.130] and estates you get. [00:20:26.318] you know, [00:20:27.390] a pretty good rather than a search [00:20:29.660] where just searching on will is gonna bring back tons [00:20:31.969] of hits. The popular searches are [00:20:34.059] almost organized a bit more like a subject heading [00:20:36.608] or search for more like a subject heading. [00:20:39.180] Uh, so you kind of see all the, the [00:20:41.219] different options. Again, the categories [00:20:43.930] are where I think, [00:20:45.289] uh, [00:20:46.858] You just get a better explanation. So, for [00:20:49.078] wills for people with Children, if I've got Children [00:20:51.380] that's, you know, I'm gonna want to look at those if I don't, I [00:20:53.400] can kind of move on and see what the next categories [00:20:55.489] are. So people without Children. So [00:20:57.650] these are forms you might consider. [00:20:59.578] So the categorization, the [00:21:01.789] organization of the resource is really well [00:21:03.910] done. And that [00:21:05.969] brings me to brows. So this [00:21:08.189] is gonna work almost like an outline. [00:21:11.289] uh, when you're browsing for content [00:21:13.539] and let's say, I'm starting a business [00:21:15.578] with a partner, so I might want to explore partnerships. [00:21:19.568] and here we have a [00:21:21.729] breakdown. So partnerships forms relating [00:21:24.009] to accounting agreements, dissolution, [00:21:27.199] new partners, different [00:21:29.318] types of partnerships you just kind of break [00:21:31.509] down like subject settings really and just [00:21:33.568] follow the path. [00:21:35.078] So this is um, [00:21:37.088] also again where you get exposed to that content [00:21:39.380] that maybe isn't quite a form. So [00:21:41.549] for example checklists [00:21:44.250] So if we're putting together a partnership agreement, [00:21:46.750] here's a checklist of things I might [00:21:48.868] need to think about. [00:21:50.838] And again, I'm just gonna pop into the preview rather [00:21:52.989] than downloading [00:21:54.828] You don't know what, you don't know. So is [00:21:56.838] something not crossed our mind in starting [00:21:59.180] a business together and not everything may apply, [00:22:01.739] but it's useful to have a [00:22:03.868] starting point rather than having to work, [00:22:06.420] you know, coming up with things from scratch [00:22:09.910] and [00:22:12.660] the browse. Again, we have to put together packages [00:22:15.219] of forms for you. So I really [00:22:17.660] love this kind of organized way of coming [00:22:19.779] into the content, content. So [00:22:21.969] let's say we're looking for forms relating [00:22:24.279] to, um, [00:22:26.118] you know, kind of general partnerships jump [00:22:28.578] in. There's a general partnership package. [00:22:32.439] and it's gonna pull together. Again, [00:22:34.858] some of those things we might need, [00:22:37.568] as we're building a partnership and [00:22:39.809] I love this example too because this can be [00:22:41.930] a great resource for your [00:22:44.150] small business owners, your entrepreneurs. [00:22:46.880] This is a database that can help [00:22:49.009] with a lot of those issues. There's [00:22:51.189] a lot of content in here, say after the business [00:22:53.549] is up and running, hiring and firing [00:22:55.890] procedures, things like that dealing with [00:22:58.039] employees. Um again, applications [00:23:00.949] in the resource, [00:23:02.979] There's a lot of great stuff here. They can just kind [00:23:05.098] of take advantage of rather than say going [00:23:07.160] to staples and you know, buying a package [00:23:09.420] of forms, they can come here and create one [00:23:11.509] that's really custom to their business. [00:23:13.769] So really excellent resource [00:23:15.838] for your small business community, uh, [00:23:17.930] uh, with your library, [00:23:21.059] So, and I think fun too. I know this database [00:23:23.309] is uh you know, kind of really popular [00:23:25.539] in public libraries, but could have some, you know, great [00:23:27.799] use and others as well. [00:23:30.578] All right. So let's browse through a few more things Just [00:23:32.670] gonna jump back to the home page. [00:23:35.449] and the, um, resources here [00:23:37.719] again, the browse, I think is a good [00:23:39.789] way to get comfortable with what's here to know [00:23:41.848] what's in the resource. So, [00:23:43.689] you know, it kind of sparks if someone should come in [00:23:45.989] and is looking for [00:23:48.000] you know, help with uh [00:23:49.880] um, well adoption, things [00:23:51.900] like that. This is a database to [00:23:53.979] things to come to and you know, kind of explore. [00:23:56.750] So lots of good stuff here. Let's [00:23:58.868] go ahead and pop in to say [00:24:00.299] bankruptcies, folks may need some help [00:24:02.380] with that. Again, the browse is [00:24:04.489] just gonna work like this outline and break [00:24:06.640] down the different types of forms and tools that are here [00:24:10.189] And if we jump on the same packets. [00:24:13.430] See what's available. [00:24:16.140] Hmm. All [00:24:20.219] right, so lots of good stuff. Let me check my [00:24:22.318] list. [00:24:24.000] uh we have um [00:24:26.779] Let's see. We've done that. So, I got I got a little [00:24:28.939] out of order from my guidelines here. [00:24:31.500] I think we're good. [00:24:34.559] yeah all right so [00:24:37.049] I want to explore the um [00:24:39.239] help that's here. I've kind of looked at my [00:24:41.368] on my kind of search recommendations and best [00:24:43.380] practices and browsing and the like [00:24:45.640] so let's look at the support that's offered. We [00:24:47.769] already saw with each legal form. You're getting that [00:24:50.578] um [00:24:51.750] description and with many of them you're actually [00:24:53.809] getting some legal definitions tied to it. [00:24:55.880] But should you need that, it's always just a click [00:24:57.920] away here in the upper left hand corner. [00:25:00.439] and you can, you know, browse [00:25:02.598] it just using the alphabet or if, you know the term [00:25:04.818] you're after, [00:25:07.150] I understand, you know, complaint has different [00:25:09.469] connotations and, you know, life [00:25:11.568] versus the legal world. [00:25:14.439] So we can see all the different terms [00:25:16.680] that you or all the yeah, sorry, all the different terms [00:25:19.229] that use complaint within them. [00:25:21.689] And we've got some general ones, [00:25:23.699] but then some more specific ones [00:25:27.108] And it's written from that legal point [00:25:29.259] of view. Right? So we see the difference between [00:25:31.328] that and, you know, kind of general complaint [00:25:34.348] uh in life and it's a little [00:25:36.519] more, you know detailed than say, a dictionary [00:25:38.660] definition where things get really [00:25:40.858] detailed though is if you go into the law [00:25:43.039] digest, I always think of the legal definitions [00:25:45.289] as kind of an extended dictionary [00:25:48.189] the law digest is more like an [00:25:50.338] encyclopedia. So I could certainly look [00:25:52.400] up complaint there too. But [00:25:54.779] if we I'm actually gonna browse here so you can [00:25:56.789] kind of see the broad idea, it talks about different [00:25:59.140] legal um issues and terminology [00:26:02.068] but it also has, you know, biographies [00:26:05.969] uh, for various lawyers, it's got [00:26:08.209] overviews of, of particular cases. [00:26:11.118] It's really, um, you know, much [00:26:13.150] more extended than the legal definition and [00:26:15.529] uh, the uh, legal definition section. [00:26:17.750] So if we wanted to read more about the glass [00:26:20.059] Stegall Act, which I'm not familiar [00:26:22.318] with. We'll find out right here. This [00:26:24.390] is also interlinked so it speaks [00:26:26.549] to the new deal so we can go out and read about [00:26:28.598] that. All of these are, you know, quick [00:26:30.838] ways to kind of jump around and discover [00:26:33.009] more details about. [00:26:34.500] the stock market securities. [00:26:38.219] kind of goes through. [00:26:39.779] But, nice [00:26:42.219] overviews. [00:26:43.709] Hm So [00:26:45.739] those are gonna be more general help, [00:26:48.529] where things can get really specific [00:26:50.759] is in the legal Q. And A. [00:26:54.430] And in the legal life articles, we're gonna look at those [00:26:56.709] too. The legal Q. And a. [00:26:58.868] One of the services they provide out [00:27:00.880] at the commercial site for U. S. Legal [00:27:03.068] forms is folks can submit a question [00:27:05.469] and get an uh well not always, but they can submit [00:27:07.699] a question and hopefully get an answer back. Uh depending [00:27:10.250] on what they publish what we get [00:27:12.299] are kind of the results of that. All of the published [00:27:14.789] questions with answers and [00:27:16.969] we break them down by category here. [00:27:19.670] And go ahead and jump into one. [00:27:22.279] you can see the state they're associated [00:27:24.318] with because that's often gonna of course have an [00:27:26.348] impact on the answer. Um so [00:27:28.489] that can be important [00:27:30.858] but if we're in a similar legal situation [00:27:33.219] and someone is asked a question you can, [00:27:36.910] click in and view the answer again, could be [00:27:38.989] different, say in Massachusetts versus you [00:27:41.328] know, the answer that we have for Texas, something [00:27:43.519] to explore, but at least kind of gives you an idea [00:27:46.519] and you can browse through these and see [00:27:48.640] if anything applies. [00:27:51.529] um So [00:27:53.949] the legal Q. And A. Is really I will [00:27:55.979] also say kind of fascinating some of the questions [00:27:58.729] um that get asked. So it's interesting [00:28:01.009] to browse and read some of the [00:28:03.420] uh questions but [00:28:05.509] pardon me [00:28:07.078] again, can give folks an idea of where to start [00:28:09.880] and help you avoid having [00:28:12.088] just one minute [00:28:17.009] I mean, and kind of avoid [00:28:19.189] putting you in the hot seat uh to [00:28:21.289] give, to give legal advice [00:28:24.670] now. Another good place to start [00:28:26.809] is the legal life articles when [00:28:28.858] folks come in with an issue. [00:28:31.390] this takes on some of actually you can see [00:28:33.469] some of the most popular legal form searches. [00:28:35.779] That's a bit how they determine what's gonna be in the [00:28:37.858] legal life articles just by what's popular [00:28:40.170] in the database. What are the things that kind of come up the [00:28:42.229] most [00:28:43.299] and it starts from [00:28:45.118] a, here's what you'll need to do kind of point of [00:28:47.180] view. So hang on, I think I've got something in [00:28:49.189] the chat [00:28:50.489] Is there a way to browse Q. And A by state? There [00:28:52.618] is not currently, [00:28:54.598] but let me make a note and [00:28:56.719] that's something we can uh [00:29:03.559] and I don't think oh let me double check, [00:29:05.769] let me pop back for a second [00:29:10.348] yeah there isn't let me just scroll to the bottom. I don't [00:29:12.559] think we've added one but let me just be sure. [00:29:14.949] Yeah there isn't a way to search either [00:29:17.328] here. You've really just got to browse by category [00:29:19.769] so let [00:29:21.868] me make a note to pass that on to our product [00:29:24.219] manager. [00:29:26.338] um And then oh good question Captain who is asking [00:29:28.699] and who is answering the questions the [00:29:30.858] lawyers that work with U. S. Legal [00:29:32.939] forms are uh answering the questions [00:29:35.449] and I think actually let me pop into one. [00:29:42.299] Oh no, I thought sometimes they had [00:29:44.568] a, Maybe I'm thinking [00:29:46.630] of somewhere. Oh no you know what I think I'm thinking [00:29:48.818] of the law digest. Sometimes it gives an author. [00:29:51.900] Um [00:29:55.000] there is [00:29:59.380] under the about [00:30:05.750] I feel like there was a decision help, [00:30:12.989] yeah thank you [00:30:16.269] apologize folks, I feel like I've seen something about [00:30:18.588] this in the database. [00:30:21.400] but [00:30:25.449] pardon me I could be mistaken. [00:30:28.559] They have a who is LegalForms but that doesn't [00:30:30.719] really give [00:30:31.989] what I was looking for [00:30:33.799] for me. [00:30:38.299] always a tickle in your throat when you're on a webinar. [00:30:40.818] Um [00:30:42.439] Let me I can get kind of a more formal answer [00:30:44.640] for you. I thought we had something in the database about [00:30:46.900] that but [00:30:49.368] I mean yeah [00:30:52.939] Uh [00:30:54.068] get something more formal for you and then [00:30:56.118] I'll if I can I'll include it in the Q. And A. Or [00:30:58.380] the follow up email that [00:31:00.430] comes to you tomorrow. Um If I don't get [00:31:02.519] the answer though, until after that comes out. I'll [00:31:04.618] just send a separate email with an answer [00:31:08.390] uh So back to the legal life articles [00:31:11.509] back in. Oh, you bet. No problem. [00:31:14.130] Um, let me jump back into the legal life articles. [00:31:16.449] So again, this takes kind of a [00:31:18.769] starting point of view. So say, like [00:31:20.868] we say, we're trying to put something together. [00:31:23.289] You know, a lot of us have aging parents. [00:31:26.539] What should we starting to do? [00:31:28.699] Start to do, you know, advice for cared givers. [00:31:32.299] Things you wanna, you know, kind of just be aware [00:31:34.479] of. So again, this database, you [00:31:36.519] know, is named Well there's lots of legal forms [00:31:38.608] there, but there's all this additional help as well. [00:31:41.118] And what I like about it is they keep it really [00:31:43.219] simple. I mean you can see this is a fairly lengthy [00:31:45.400] article but you know something [00:31:47.719] someone can print out, you know, take home [00:31:49.858] read over time and go it doesn't [00:31:52.039] make things too complicated but gives [00:31:54.269] you a lot of good pointers for things you may need [00:31:56.279] to think about uh when, when dealing [00:31:58.598] with any of these issues so [00:32:00.828] Uh The list of these will grow over [00:32:02.858] time again. Just kind of looking at what's being [00:32:05.088] searched for in the database and what folks are [00:32:07.199] using. So [00:32:09.170] A really good place to get started when [00:32:11.289] folks are coming in. Maybe they want to handle [00:32:13.598] their own divorce [00:32:15.588] and jump right in and start into the legal [00:32:17.900] life articles. So again, great starting [00:32:20.150] point, uh, when folks are unsure just [00:32:22.390] what they need to do, [00:32:24.699] Hmm. All right, [00:32:26.719] so there's some other tools here. Tax forms, [00:32:29.229] you know with the start of the year. Might [00:32:31.348] find some need for these and uh just [00:32:33.709] point you where to find those on the various states [00:32:37.348] and uh federal sites uh which [00:32:39.699] is handy. There's an attorney directory [00:32:42.500] and these are often attorneys that are working [00:32:44.509] with U. S. LegalForms or firms [00:32:46.799] that they've worked with. It isn't though. As you'll [00:32:49.019] see of course there's a disclaimer, there's [00:32:51.199] not really an endorsement but say we're looking [00:32:53.318] for an attorney in Maryland. [00:32:55.400] This will break down different practice areas [00:32:57.858] and then give you a list of attorneys who specialize [00:33:00.118] and what I like about this is, [00:33:02.670] You know, you're you haven't gone and done to search [00:33:05.130] it. you know, google or something. [00:33:07.348] So you're not getting a ton of additional ads and things [00:33:09.598] like that. So [00:33:11.420] and kind of jump in. [00:33:13.799] and find some starting points. [00:33:17.410] All right, so good stuff over [00:33:19.449] here on the left, [00:33:22.799] the last thing I want to share. Let me just [00:33:24.838] check my checklist. I think I've got everything I wanted to [00:33:26.979] hear just for fun. And [00:33:29.068] because we have a minute here, [00:33:31.449] there are some fun things in the database. [00:33:35.029] and I can't resist the tooth fairy letter [00:33:37.180] So we have sample letters from [00:33:39.338] a child to a tooth. The tooth fairy, but also [00:33:41.400] a sample letter from the tooth fairy to a child. [00:33:43.890] So should [00:33:46.229] your tooth fairy be a little more uh, [00:33:48.250] formal. [00:33:50.199] let me go ahead and open this up [00:33:58.049] We have some fun stuff here so [00:34:00.469] you know, lets them know [00:34:02.368] and great. Uh the tooth fairy [00:34:04.578] is given a little history for why they collect [00:34:06.630] teeth. So some fun stuff. [00:34:09.500] The letter from the child. [00:34:11.789] Actually I'll just go into the preview [00:34:14.159] instead of opening it. But [00:34:16.289] is kind of funny it. Um, [00:34:19.250] they're uh negotiating. They, they [00:34:21.340] want a raise in uh what they [00:34:23.349] get for their teeth. So some fun stuff [00:34:25.478] here too. There's some Santa stuff and [00:34:27.789] you know, things like that. So good [00:34:29.949] stuff. There are even, you know, kind of go to [00:34:32.289] or uh complaint letters [00:34:34.429] ready or you know, things like that. [00:34:36.708] So again, just not having to start [00:34:38.728] from scratch is often really handy. So [00:34:41.168] you know, try a search for what you're in here. [00:34:43.199] There's an example letter in here for someone who's unhappy [00:34:45.369] with the sunglasses they ordered. So really [00:34:47.760] lots of good stuff. [00:34:49.418] Ok, usage statistics. Great question [00:34:51.619] Wally. So we have [00:34:53.760] usage stats for legal [00:34:55.849] forms. Let me double check something though. I'm pretty [00:34:58.079] sure this is the case but I wanted to just confirm [00:35:00.418] it on our support site. [00:35:04.398] Bear with me, just a second, [00:35:08.679] I think [00:35:14.429] you might have to, [00:35:19.889] Yes. Ok. Let me double [00:35:21.929] check something else though too. [00:35:28.398] Yeah. Ok, so I'm gonna quick pop [00:35:30.409] because we've got a couple of minutes here. I wanted to budget [00:35:32.679] enough time for questions. So let me also [00:35:34.978] check something else. [00:35:37.289] So we have a tool called the usage dashboard [00:35:39.949] which is an on demand [00:35:42.409] uh tool [00:35:44.099] to obtain usage statistics. [00:35:47.320] We also have and many of you [00:35:49.449] might already be receiving these uh usage [00:35:51.809] portal. We call it you access it through Gale [00:35:54.030] admin [00:35:55.168] and that's where you can go to [00:35:57.610] um set up monthly reports [00:36:00.059] that come to you automatically, [00:36:02.159] I don't think. [00:36:05.478] LegalForms. [00:36:08.789] Although we'll find out here in a second [00:36:16.969] That's funny. [00:36:22.829] My use reports aren't uh [00:36:27.668] anything. [00:36:35.570] Ok, so it could [00:36:37.719] be an issue with just my account. It's a demo [00:36:40.019] account. It's not really like [00:36:42.199] a real library account but I can't log into [00:36:44.418] a real library account because for [00:36:46.929] a um [00:36:48.510] privacy concerns [00:36:51.519] So I don't think I'm gonna be able to see what I wanna [00:36:53.579] see here. Let me try the reports. What I want [00:36:55.679] to tell you. What I want to be able to tell [00:36:57.820] you is if [00:37:00.099] The standard usage report that you'll get [00:37:02.590] will include [00:37:05.579] um [00:37:08.750] LegalForms [00:37:11.389] But I don't think I'm gonna be able to tell [00:37:13.449] you that with [00:37:16.648] my account acting up. So [00:37:18.889] bear with me. [00:37:22.369] Yeah, I can't even pick my [00:37:26.958] Yeah, I should be able to have more [00:37:29.519] options in there. Ok, one more thing I want [00:37:31.659] to check here in the list of reports. Yeah, [00:37:33.719] something's going on. [00:37:35.208] So um [00:37:41.418] Bear with me just a second. I'm gonna log in a different [00:37:43.639] way. see [00:37:47.889] if we can get this answered Now. [00:37:56.849] Ok. There we go. All right. I wonder might [00:37:58.958] as I get them the other way. Ok, so [00:38:01.179] let me go back over to the [00:38:03.938] filters and see if he performs [00:38:06.340] this here. It [00:38:08.610] is. Ok. So let me [00:38:11.530] let me see if I can. [00:38:13.610] do this and I get what I want. [00:38:18.059] yes. Ok. So this is one [00:38:20.208] thing I wanted to check if you are getting [00:38:22.289] the monthly reports from Gale already [00:38:24.570] or if you, you know, sign up to get them, [00:38:27.398] LegalForms will count in those [00:38:29.559] in that usage report, you'll see [00:38:31.659] sessions [00:38:33.329] searches and retrievals [00:38:35.530] however, what we often offer [00:38:38.219] and that's why I'm gonna go over to reports here. [00:38:41.599] Shoot, it's there. It is. Ok. [00:38:44.929] So you can also see. [00:38:48.090] Yes, this is what I want to show you. [00:38:50.458] So session searches and retrievals are always [00:38:52.619] handy. Good to know how many people are using the databases, [00:38:55.070] how many searches they are throwing, how much good [00:38:57.090] stuff they're finding with retrievals. But with [00:38:59.159] databases like LegalForms and [00:39:01.329] say, you know, your Peterson's resources, [00:39:03.769] the test prep and career prep. It's [00:39:06.019] good to see what they're actually using in there [00:39:08.188] because those databases are built on a specific [00:39:10.320] subject area and they can help with say collection, [00:39:12.590] development, programming, things like that [00:39:15.280] so you can see what forms [00:39:17.530] are actually being accessed. So it's not tied [00:39:19.719] to any particular user. I don't know who [00:39:22.139] looked up the checklist partnership agreement, [00:39:24.938] but I can see that someone did. So [00:39:27.070] you could kind of maybe see a theme in what people [00:39:29.119] are searching. And again, that could maybe [00:39:31.168] lead to a program in the library or [00:39:34.250] you know, bulking up any of your book [00:39:36.449] materials or things like that or other online [00:39:38.668] resources. [00:39:40.199] This can only be generated though [00:39:42.329] in the usage dashboard, this is not [00:39:44.590] a report, You can get out of that regular monthly [00:39:46.938] report that would come to you that just showed the sessions, [00:39:49.628] searches and retrieve levels. You've got [00:39:51.824] to use the usage dashboard [00:39:53.954] uh to access these and if there's [00:39:56.195] interest [00:39:57.583] we're happy to offer a session on the usage [00:39:59.744] dashboard. It's a really great tool [00:40:01.945] as you can see right off the bat you get these [00:40:04.083] nice visual displays of your content, [00:40:07.155] uh can use those in reporting and things [00:40:09.184] like that. You can compare time [00:40:11.503] period you can put in of course the time period that [00:40:13.583] you want to see. [00:40:14.945] Uh there's lots of good stuff. [00:40:17.378] when you come into uh the usage [00:40:19.559] dashboard and again, these [00:40:21.699] kind of extended reports [00:40:23.929] for various databases. You can [00:40:26.070] get a closer look at [00:40:28.530] uh kind of what's happening in those [00:40:30.539] databases. So this is my [00:40:32.579] demo account. So we're seeing a few that aren't available [00:40:34.800] in in Massachusetts. But um the [00:40:37.050] Petersons uh reports would be [00:40:39.139] really handy. [00:40:41.070] So. Ok. Great question. Um [00:40:43.510] Sorry, it took a minute to uh kind [00:40:45.809] of go on about the answer but I wanted to confirm, [00:40:48.289] I was kind of giving you the good info so [00:40:50.648] um [00:40:52.199] let me just check that I haven't missed anything. [00:40:55.909] all right. So while you let me know if you have [00:40:57.938] any kind of further questions about the usage [00:41:00.110] that leads us to though support. [00:41:03.458] So usage could be, you know something [00:41:05.699] you would come to Gale or M. L. S. For. So [00:41:07.708] let me make sure you've got all of [00:41:09.760] our contact info.
