[00:00:04.918] we're going to be exploring gale literature [00:00:07.208] lit finder. My name is Amber Winters [00:00:09.569] and I'm your Gail training consultant for the day [00:00:13.448] So I have a quick agenda here for everyone. So first [00:00:15.689] I want to briefly talk about the content and [00:00:17.768] the tools that you're going to find within gay literature [00:00:19.969] lit finder kind of just the basics [00:00:22.408] of what you can expect, what your users can expect, [00:00:24.940] but we'll spend the majority of the time actually walking [00:00:27.068] through that platform. So we're going to see some [00:00:29.100] of the different workflows. What's great about this [00:00:31.219] resource is there's quite a few different [00:00:33.329] ways to get to content. So we're going to take [00:00:35.380] a look at all of those today and we'll also explore [00:00:37.560] some of the different tools that are going to help enhance [00:00:39.868] your your learners researching [00:00:42.109] And then at the very end of the session, I do have [00:00:44.167] some wrap up information. I have some contact information [00:00:46.609] for you. [00:00:47.689] I have included questions there at the end, but [00:00:49.959] feel free if you do have questions as we move [00:00:52.009] through the session, go ahead and put them into the Q [00:00:54.189] and a as you think of them. I'll try to answer them [00:00:56.250] as we move forward. If for whatever [00:00:58.298] reason I can't answer them as we're going through the session today, [00:01:00.719] just stay on until the end of the end of the [00:01:02.789] time and I'll make sure everything gets answered for [00:01:04.837] you. So let's go ahead and dive [00:01:06.900] in. So gale literature lit finder is [00:01:09.129] a really expansive resource that's [00:01:11.239] covering literature from around the world [00:01:13.319] and throughout history. So not just current [00:01:15.468] literature, but literature thinking [00:01:17.698] all the way back. So we have over 100 [00:01:19.900] and 30,000 full text poems. [00:01:22.168] I will pause here to say the Majority [00:01:24.448] of the information we have on this resource [00:01:26.549] is going to be full text, [00:01:29.480] bits of content. So poems, also [00:01:31.837] short stories and novels. We have over 11,000 [00:01:34.509] full text over 4000 [00:01:36.557] essays. We also include a a fair [00:01:39.079] amount of speeches that I think sometimes get a little [00:01:41.168] bit lost when you're thinking. about [00:01:43.188] gay literature finder. You're thinking kind of strict [00:01:45.549] literature, bits of information. But we [00:01:47.698] have a huge select collection of [00:01:49.729] speeches available as well. We also [00:01:51.859] have full text plays over 1300 [00:01:54.799] and much more. We have things like biographies [00:01:57.209] about the authors. We have a little bit of multimedia [00:01:59.739] content, so like images and things like that. [00:02:02.790] as well as some different work overviews. So [00:02:04.909] in addition to these kind of primary sources that [00:02:07.040] we have these full text literary [00:02:09.210] literary works. We also have [00:02:11.288] some secondary content that's going to help your [00:02:13.318] users really get engaged with the information. [00:02:16.337] And in addition to all of that great content, [00:02:18.688] we also have some really nice tools that's going [00:02:20.710] to help increase accessibility, [00:02:22.938] things like our translation feature, our [00:02:25.117] highlights and notes feature, we can edit [00:02:27.199] the text and kind of manipulate it a little [00:02:29.240] bit to make sure everyone can access the information [00:02:31.728] how they need to. And we also have some [00:02:33.777] great saving features, things like integrated [00:02:36.250] at Google and Microsoft one drive. So [00:02:38.300] we're going to take a look at all of those tools today. [00:02:40.587] But those are just some of the few things that are going to make [00:02:42.658] this platform really beneficial for [00:02:44.758] your users. [00:02:46.848] and as I mentioned, there's a lot of different ways to [00:02:48.908] access content within this resource. Of [00:02:51.128] course we always include our basic [00:02:53.628] search, which is a fairly powerful search [00:02:55.710] but in addition to that we also have a person [00:02:58.057] search. So if your users have someone [00:03:00.438] specific in mind, they can certainly type that into [00:03:02.628] our person search or maybe they just have a set of [00:03:04.669] parameters. Maybe they're just looking [00:03:06.830] for native american authors, maybe they're just [00:03:08.889] looking for female authors. they'll [00:03:10.908] be able to search that and limit that within [00:03:12.990] our person search to pull that content [00:03:15.610] just like a person search. We also have our [00:03:17.639] works search. So if they have a work in [00:03:19.649] mind that they want to take a look at, they can do [00:03:21.788] that, or maybe they're looking just for works within a specific [00:03:24.258] genre, they can enter in the genre or [00:03:26.348] maybe they're just interested in poems. They want to see [00:03:28.508] all of the poems we have available within [00:03:31.139] gay literature that finder, [00:03:33.027] they can narrow it down just to seeing all of our poems [00:03:35.438] as well. So again, another way to access [00:03:37.679] our content that makes it really clean and simple [00:03:39.770] for them. [00:03:40.899] and finally we do have our topic finder, which [00:03:43.069] is one of my favorite tools. If [00:03:45.139] you've been within the majority of our Gail resources, [00:03:47.557] you've probably seen topic finder. We do include [00:03:49.718] it here within Gail literature lip finder as well [00:03:52.288] and that's going to give us a visual clickable [00:03:55.449] graphic that's going [00:03:57.490] to show you different search results for a user. So [00:03:59.579] they need a more visual look and if they want [00:04:01.729] to see different connections between [00:04:03.949] topics and between search terms, they'll [00:04:05.960] be able to take a look at our topic finder and pull some [00:04:08.000] great content [00:04:09.628] So again, quite a few different ways to access [00:04:11.758] content. We're going to take a look at all of them today [00:04:13.860] since we have the time for it. [00:04:15.399] So let's just go ahead and jump right [00:04:17.608] in as I switch over to [00:04:19.879] the platform. Does anyone have any [00:04:22.000] questions for me? [00:04:26.809] Ok? I don't see any. So let's go [00:04:28.869] ahead and get started then. So this is the home page [00:04:31.019] of Gil literature lip finder. This is what your [00:04:33.088] users are going to see immediately upon entering. [00:04:35.987] I will point out just a few different bits of information [00:04:38.209] that might be helpful for them. So of course, [00:04:40.220] of course at the very top we have our basic [00:04:42.269] search which we're going to run through first, [00:04:44.558] but down below on our home page we can also [00:04:46.778] launch directly into the topic finder if [00:04:48.869] we want to. [00:04:49.970] And we also have a term frequency tool. [00:04:52.108] So if they want to explore the frequency [00:04:54.149] of a specific term being utilized throughout [00:04:56.379] history, they can do that. They can also compare [00:04:59.048] different terms as well. They can enter in more than one. [00:05:01.350] So we do have that available for [00:05:03.927] some advanced analysis of information. [00:05:07.079] addition to that on the home page, [00:05:09.220] you'll also see in this little white bar here. [00:05:11.579] We have a link to our person search [00:05:14.028] and our work search. These are both also [00:05:16.189] found under advanced search but we've pulled [00:05:18.209] them right here on the home page just because we feel [00:05:20.338] they're a really valuable asset for your users to [00:05:22.358] see kind of as soon as they get onto the platform, [00:05:25.230] In addition to that we have our get link [00:05:27.350] tool, you'll see this little icon here, [00:05:29.548] this link, this is going to provide a persistent [00:05:31.980] URL to whatever page your users are on [00:05:34.108] and you'll notice as we start to click through this resource, [00:05:36.670] this get link button pretty much follows us along [00:05:39.000] the entire time. So as your users [00:05:41.298] are maybe searching and finding a really nice [00:05:43.308] search results page that they want to say if they can get [00:05:45.399] a link to that if they find a nice [00:05:47.869] play that they want to hold on to, they [00:05:49.927] can get a link to it that way. they'll [00:05:51.970] be able to link throughout the session [00:05:54.677] and kind of share that out where they want to [00:05:56.689] go. They can save it for themselves or they can send it to colleagues. [00:05:59.439] I believe we have a fair amount of K 12 folks [00:06:01.778] on the line. they can share [00:06:03.920] with their peers or if it's a teacher pulling content [00:06:06.298] maybe for their class for a lesson, that [00:06:08.869] teacher can share this link to them as well. So [00:06:10.889] this get link feature is pretty powerful, [00:06:13.129] and again, you're going to see it [00:06:15.028] almost every step of the way as we click through [00:06:17.119] this resource today, [00:06:19.309] But let's just start off with a basic search so we can [00:06:21.319] kind of see how our results are organized. [00:06:23.480] I'm just gonna search today for robert Frost [00:06:27.689] Fairly popular search within this platform. [00:06:29.987] So let's go ahead and search it out on our search [00:06:32.220] results page. I want to point out, you'll see [00:06:34.449] where it says, showing results in this little gray toolbar. [00:06:37.108] It always defaults to showing primary [00:06:39.250] sources and literary works first [00:06:41.670] because that's really the point of these resources [00:06:43.970] for them to find the literature. So we've pulled [00:06:46.189] that forward so they're always going to start off with that. [00:06:48.798] But you'll see in addition to that. We also, as I mentioned, [00:06:51.149] have some biographies, some topic [00:06:53.350] and work overviews to give a little bit of context [00:06:55.588] to whatever your your users are going to be reading. [00:06:58.369] And you see for for us we also have a little [00:07:00.569] bit of multimedia content. [00:07:02.199] so a lot of times, those are podcasts that [00:07:04.369] might mention or include the individual [00:07:06.980] or the work that you're looking at. you [00:07:09.019] we have a couple of those here as well [00:07:11.709] On those right hand side, this is [00:07:13.730] where you're going to find our filtering options. So [00:07:16.100] we have a lot of works from Robert Frost, [00:07:18.427] you'll see 349 here. So [00:07:20.660] oftentimes it's beneficial [00:07:23.129] to kind of filter this down here. So you'll see if we can [00:07:25.220] filter down by subjects, [00:07:27.389] by the name of the work. If we have that, we [00:07:29.480] can filter down that way. the document [00:07:31.879] type, all that good stuff, [00:07:34.427] we can filter down right here [00:07:36.427] and I do default to showing full text documents [00:07:38.927] only. We do have a fair amount of poetry citations [00:07:41.509] and other citations. So I do prefer [00:07:43.987] to limit to full text but they can choose full [00:07:46.019] text or if they want to see the citations, [00:07:48.108] they can choose that as well. [00:07:50.759] right underneath this again, you'll see our topic [00:07:53.088] finder and our term frequency have been included [00:07:55.278] here on this page as well. [00:07:57.028] So before I click into a document, let's just take [00:07:59.170] a look at what this topic finder is going to look like. [00:08:01.338] So if I [00:08:02.237] decided to run my search a topic finder [00:08:04.389] instead of running it through my basic search [00:08:07.358] This is what I'm going to see. [00:08:09.269] It's a nice visual here. So instead of getting just that [00:08:11.290] list of texts, I can point and click [00:08:13.420] through this so we can see, wow, robert Frost [00:08:15.699] um deals a lot with new England. Let's click on this [00:08:18.548] and it's going to pull us forward to the second step [00:08:20.677] of information. [00:08:22.358] So let's see house. [00:08:25.028] Ok, so now they've narrowed down their content [00:08:27.160] to seven bits of content here as opposed to that [00:08:29.329] 300. And what was it? 49 I believe [00:08:31.949] entries, they've narrowed it down now to the seven [00:08:34.807] so they can go through and they can click into any of [00:08:36.840] these, they think is important and start to read through. [00:08:39.788] So this is another great feature to access the content. [00:08:42.250] They can reset this at any point down here underneath [00:08:44.710] this. [00:08:46.677] and start to kind of click through other things as well. [00:08:48.940] So they have that option here, [00:08:51.239] in addition to this tile visualization [00:08:53.440] which is a default, there's also [00:08:55.548] a wheel visualization so it gives a little [00:08:57.719] bit excuse me, a [00:08:59.729] more organized look, they'll be able to kind of [00:09:01.739] click through this way. So they both provide [00:09:03.750] the same information. Just two different views for [00:09:06.028] your users for whatever they prefer [00:09:09.168] But let's go back to our basic search results page. [00:09:13.950] we can scroll down a little bit. Let's see, [00:09:16.330] let's click on one here, we'll click [00:09:18.460] on some of the wave [00:09:21.278] Now, they may in this piece of content here [00:09:24.129] You see as I scroll down, it gives me a little bit about [00:09:26.288] this work. So it's given me just a quick background [00:09:28.469] before I actually read through this poem [00:09:30.658] here. [00:09:31.509] You'll see sometimes there will be related subjects [00:09:33.879] listed on this right hand side. If they are, [00:09:36.057] they'll always appear here under this nice [00:09:38.149] explore panel. [00:09:40.149] In addition to this, we have quite a few different tools [00:09:42.399] that can help your users as well. So [00:09:45.528] First off, if we have any K 12 folks online. [00:09:47.719] I know we do and if we have many academic folks [00:09:49.927] we do include full citations for everything [00:09:52.129] we have within this resource. So you'll see [00:09:54.259] here, we have a citation right here at the very [00:09:56.489] bottom of the, of the um poem. [00:09:59.288] We have M L A A P a Chicago or Harvard [00:10:01.538] versions. You'll see they can send [00:10:03.570] that citation over to wherever they need [00:10:05.629] it to go or they can copy and paste it. [00:10:08.609] we also include that citation right [00:10:10.908] here in our toolbar. [00:10:13.109] when I click on this button, it provides the same information, [00:10:15.528] it just provides it in a second area. [00:10:17.927] So if they maybe don't see it at the bottom of [00:10:20.009] the page, they'll see it up top here. [00:10:22.739] I will point out we also have a biography [00:10:25.239] attached to this poem here as well. So if you [00:10:27.259] really read the poem, if they want to know [00:10:29.278] more about the author, they can click here and they'll [00:10:31.340] be pulled to a bi biography about [00:10:33.408] robert cross [00:10:36.229] Now, if your users find this content helpful, [00:10:38.629] maybe they want to save it for later. If you're in a public [00:10:40.989] library situation, maybe they find [00:10:43.009] that someone want to share it with a book [00:10:45.229] club or a literature club that they're a part of or maybe [00:10:47.349] they want to share it with a friend or a colleague [00:10:49.788] or whomever they can do that in quite a few different [00:10:51.989] ways so they can use the send to button [00:10:54.080] up top here. [00:10:56.239] This is going to let them send over to their drives, [00:10:58.899] either google or one drive or they [00:11:00.918] can email it to themselves or others to save [00:11:03.000] for later [00:11:04.389] They can also download a print this if they prefer [00:11:06.668] to have a hard copy or have it just saved [00:11:08.710] on their desktop. They have the ability [00:11:10.927] here, it does download as a Pdf for them. [00:11:14.099] and again we have our amazing get link [00:11:16.298] button here. I'm slightly biased, but I really [00:11:18.450] enjoy this. again it's persistent, [00:11:20.759] so it's not going to break. So even you [00:11:22.918] as a librarian or a teacher or [00:11:24.940] professor, whoever you are on the line today, if [00:11:27.200] you find a bit of content, you think it is really beneficial. [00:11:29.788] You can copy it, paste it in a [00:11:31.807] discussion post, put it on your L [00:11:33.908] MS, put it on your library social [00:11:36.177] media site. what's great is your users [00:11:38.450] will be able to click into this [00:11:40.427] and they'll see this piece of content without authenticating. [00:11:43.807] You don't need to worry about sharing something [00:11:45.849] out and then trying to share out, you know, this is how you get your password, [00:11:47.908] this is how you sign in. If if they don't know how to do that [00:11:50.057] yet, they automatically see this content. [00:11:52.129] If they decide then that they want to move forward [00:11:54.509] in this resource. So maybe they want to read [00:11:56.599] more poem poems by robert [00:11:58.840] Frost, [00:11:59.989] they'll be asked to authenticate at that point. But [00:12:02.418] when you use that get link they'll always have access [00:12:04.590] to this one specific page. So that's a really powerful [00:12:07.109] tool to make sure they can access whatever [00:12:09.250] content you find for them. [00:12:13.080] And all of those tools are also found down here. [00:12:15.639] You'll see I have my google drive [00:12:17.879] and my one drive icons as well as [00:12:19.889] my email download and print. And these [00:12:22.139] are going to do the same thing as these tools. [00:12:24.807] But again we've added just a little bit of redundancy [00:12:27.099] to make sure it's really simple for users [00:12:29.399] to find the tools [00:12:32.190] So in addition to these excellent tools, [00:12:34.500] we have some great kind of text manipulation [00:12:36.570] tools that are going to increase the accessibility for [00:12:38.609] your users. So you see the first one [00:12:40.700] I have here is my translate button right here under [00:12:42.899] the solid black line here, [00:12:45.599] I have my translate so I can translate my article. [00:12:47.927] You'll see here in quite a few different languages. [00:12:50.979] and I can also set my interface language [00:12:53.177] which is going to change all of the navigation [00:12:55.658] and all of the tools to whatever language I chose. [00:12:58.057] So let's do that. Ok, so we can just quickly take [00:13:00.070] a look. So I'll choose spanish here [00:13:03.427] There we go. So you see now all of my tools [00:13:05.599] are in spanish my search bar here. [00:13:07.969] All of my tools here, my explore [00:13:10.288] panel. And this is going to follow [00:13:12.408] your users throughout the session so they can [00:13:14.440] change this at the very beginning of their [00:13:16.500] research and have it follow along [00:13:18.729] throughout their entire time on the platform. [00:13:21.710] and now I can change it back. Either by hitting the [00:13:23.798] translate button here or [00:13:26.109] I can go up to the top here where it says spanish. [00:13:29.879] and I can change it back to life. [00:13:34.528] So we have that listed there [00:13:37.009] in addition to that, we can increase or decrease [00:13:39.149] the font size [00:13:41.000] So if you have individuals who are visually impaired [00:13:43.210] who need that larger text, they have [00:13:45.269] the ability to enhance that here [00:13:47.469] right next to. We also have some additional [00:13:49.759] more advanced display option choices. [00:13:52.168] So they'll be able to choose if they want a background [00:13:54.399] color behind the text, they [00:13:56.418] could choose different fonts. We do have a dyslexia [00:13:58.807] font available? That's helpful. Most likely going [00:14:00.960] to be helpful for a lot of your users and [00:14:03.000] they can also change the line, letter and word spacing. [00:14:05.820] so they're really going to be able to access this [00:14:07.940] content, how they need to, they can really [00:14:09.969] manipulate this to make it [00:14:12.830] Perfect for that. Perfect for how they see [00:14:15.000] things, [00:14:16.677] and when they do edit their display options [00:14:19.119] using that display options button that will [00:14:21.177] follow them along as well, [00:14:22.778] so they'll get that different view as they're clicking [00:14:24.899] through different articles or different works [00:14:27.099] and things like that. [00:14:29.219] Finally, right next to the display options, [00:14:31.509] we have our listen tool which is going to [00:14:33.798] do just that. It's going to let your users listen [00:14:36.177] to this content. What's great is if they hit this listen [00:14:38.479] button, I'm not going to play it today, but [00:14:40.668] when they hit this it pops up this nice [00:14:42.677] little feature here. [00:14:44.349] and they can hit this little settings gear [00:14:46.840] and they can even edit how this is being [00:14:48.908] read to them. So it defaults to highlighting [00:14:51.450] text that's being read. If your users find [00:14:53.570] that may be a little bit distracting, they just want [00:14:55.590] to listen to it, they can turn highlighting off, [00:14:58.259] they can choose what's being highlighted, what color, [00:15:00.690] highlighting. They can also choose to [00:15:02.840] increase the tax visibility as it's [00:15:04.879] reading through. So this is really trying [00:15:07.000] to help all users of all learning [00:15:09.070] styles of all levels to be able to [00:15:11.119] access this content. Really simply another [00:15:13.479] great feature is the reading speed, [00:15:15.609] they can slow it down [00:15:18.129] so they can really customize to get the [00:15:20.200] most out of this information here, [00:15:25.330] right next to that settings option. I will mention, [00:15:27.369] they can also download this. So if they want to [00:15:29.408] take it with them, maybe they don't have the time to [00:15:31.418] listen to it. [00:15:32.557] as they're sitting at their computer, they can [00:15:34.629] download it and listen to it when they want to [00:15:40.009] And one final tool I want to mention before we [00:15:42.099] take a look at our person [00:15:44.298] and work searches is to highlight [00:15:46.580] the notes tool. So this I personally [00:15:49.048] think is great for really any user, K-12 [00:15:52.019] academic public library user. [00:15:54.710] if they find a bit of information they think is [00:15:56.798] important or maybe a piece of [00:15:58.889] text that they think is really moving and they just they [00:16:00.960] want to highlight that they want to keep it for later. [00:16:03.349] They can they can drag over whatever piece they [00:16:05.369] think is important. They can add some notes [00:16:07.408] if they want to. [00:16:10.139] And of course the notes, their notes will be much better [00:16:12.288] than mine. they can choose a highlight color. [00:16:14.519] So let's say blue here and then they can save [00:16:16.599] it and they can highlight as much as they want through [00:16:18.677] fashion [00:16:23.177] and they can take a look at it later. So these [00:16:25.969] are all session based these highlights and notes. So [00:16:28.359] once they sign off the platform [00:16:30.479] or they close out of their browser or they're [00:16:32.548] signed up due to inactivity, all of [00:16:34.580] these highlights and notes are gone. So make sure [00:16:36.840] if you're directing them to use these highlights and notes [00:16:38.869] feature that they get the information [00:16:41.080] out of the platform before they sign off, they [00:16:43.177] can do that by sending over to their drives, [00:16:45.359] they can download, they can print, they can email, it's going [00:16:47.538] to keep the highlights for them. They'll be able [00:16:49.599] to use that later [00:16:51.599] All of our highlights and notes are also kept [00:16:53.690] in a second location. If you'll take a look [00:16:55.769] at my toolbar on top here, [00:16:57.710] you'll see this highlights and notes button has a little two [00:16:59.820] next to it. [00:17:00.940] When I click into this, it's showing me what's been [00:17:03.028] highlighted. [00:17:04.509] and I can click view all highlights and notes, which I'm [00:17:06.538] going to do here. [00:17:09.000] So now it's showing me exactly [00:17:11.229] what I highlighted the highlight color as well as [00:17:13.269] any notes I took. And you'll notice [00:17:15.509] I also have a direct URL back to that piece [00:17:17.739] of content here [00:17:19.180] and underneath. I have a bibliography. So [00:17:21.250] as I start highlighting more resources, [00:17:23.630] more pieces of content within this platform [00:17:25.989] They're all going to aggregate right here on this [00:17:28.000] highlights and notes pages. So I'll have that full [00:17:30.337] bibliography and then I'll have everything [00:17:32.430] listed up top here. So this is really [00:17:34.577] nice for your [00:17:36.617] researchers who may be running a research project because [00:17:38.719] they can copy and paste all of these [00:17:40.827] citations from right here on this page. [00:17:43.959] and they can send this particular page over [00:17:46.250] to their drives. You'll see I have my sent two options [00:17:48.479] still here [00:17:49.880] or they can download or print this. [00:17:52.229] And this is a really nice way to stay organized [00:17:54.269] as well because they won't have to send three different [00:17:56.500] articles over to their drives. Let's say they [00:17:58.650] can send this one page and then if [00:18:00.719] they want to take a look back at that article, [00:18:02.817] they are gonna have that hyperlink here so [00:18:04.857] they can click into the hyperlink off this page and [00:18:06.989] be pulled right back into the platform to take a look [00:18:09.077] at that piece of content, [00:18:13.278] now. I want to take a look at those two other [00:18:15.337] pathways to finding content, our person in our work [00:18:17.650] search before I do, I'll pause [00:18:19.660] for questions, I haven't seen any come in but [00:18:21.670] I do want to just stop here quickly. Does anyone have [00:18:23.759] any questions before we move forward? [00:18:26.199] Hm [00:18:29.469] Ok. I don't see any. So let's go ahead [00:18:31.607] and take a look at our person and our works search [00:18:34.209] now. Remember they were on the home page [00:18:36.650] for users but they're also listed under the advanced [00:18:39.048] search. So instead of clicking back to the home [00:18:41.140] page, I'm just going to select advanced search here [00:18:43.150] next to my search bar. [00:18:47.430] And now when you pull that up here you'll see. I have a few [00:18:49.469] different search options. So I have [00:18:51.640] my person search my work search and I also have [00:18:53.778] the topic finder listed here as well, so they [00:18:55.817] can access topic finder through the advanced [00:18:58.170] search. But let's [00:19:00.430] just take a look at person search first. [00:19:02.920] So you see at the very top they can just enter [00:19:05.097] a name if they know a name that they want to take a look [00:19:07.219] at. This is also great if maybe they [00:19:09.269] have part of a name and they don't [00:19:11.410] quite remember what the author's name is or what the [00:19:13.689] the poet's name is. if they have [00:19:15.699] part of a name, let's say they're looking for Maya [00:19:17.750] Angelou. But all they can think is Maya, [00:19:21.357] They can just put that in here. They can search it [00:19:24.150] and we're going to pull forward any mayo we have available. [00:19:26.808] So they'll see Angela up top here and they may say, [00:19:29.048] yeah, that's exactly who I'm looking for. [00:19:31.189] They can click in and find content related to [00:19:33.199] her clicking [00:19:35.337] back here [00:19:36.817] get rid of this. They can also go down [00:19:39.410] and narrow down based on different parameters. So [00:19:41.500] again, I default to showing full text [00:19:43.528] documents. Not so much interested right [00:19:45.680] now in seeing citations or abstracts or anything [00:19:47.847] like that. I've narrowed it down here. [00:19:50.000] You'll see, I can narrow it down based on ethnicity [00:19:52.117] or gender nationality, literary [00:19:54.699] movements. So if I just want to see content related [00:19:56.817] to one specific movement, I can pop [00:19:59.140] that right in there. Same for a [00:20:02.548] and I can also enter in occupation. [00:20:04.607] So if I'm looking specifically for [00:20:07.410] let say politicians [00:20:09.650] may have been looking for speeches, I can put in [00:20:11.719] politician to see what pops up. Of course I can also [00:20:13.920] put a poet or author and pull content [00:20:16.189] that way [00:20:19.650] So in addition to that person search, we have [00:20:21.670] our work search which functions really [00:20:24.130] the same. We have some different parameters available [00:20:26.239] but it does function pretty much the same. They can [00:20:28.367] search up here or they [00:20:30.400] can scroll down one really powerful [00:20:32.640] tool I like is to narrow down by type [00:20:35.009] of work. So this is going to show everything [00:20:37.278] we have related to that type. So I'm actually going [00:20:39.430] to narrow it down to speeches today so [00:20:41.469] we can take a look at that because again, I think sometimes [00:20:43.617] that's just a little bit missed in this resource [00:20:46.390] just because generally we're thinking about poems [00:20:48.847] and short stories and things like that. So you'll see [00:20:51.058] one of our types listed here is speech [00:20:54.577] I'm going to select that. if I wanted [00:20:56.769] to, I could put in an author or I [00:20:58.778] get a movement or things like that. I don't want to, I just [00:21:00.798] want to take a look at all of the speeches we have available. [00:21:03.617] I'm going to run my search here [00:21:06.930] There we go. So now you'll see all of [00:21:08.939] our works listed here. [00:21:11.337] and I can just start to scroll down and select [00:21:13.380] anything that I think is interesting here. [00:21:16.189] When I do that. Let's click um we'll [00:21:18.337] just click into this one [00:21:19.920] When I click into that now you'll see. It's going to pull me [00:21:22.048] forward to that one piece of content. [00:21:24.617] if we have two entries about that [00:21:26.739] content for whatever reason, they'll see both. But [00:21:28.817] you'll see. I can click into this here [00:21:32.357] and now, just like we had before with that poem, [00:21:34.420] we have just a little bit of information [00:21:36.430] about the work itself. And then [00:21:38.548] underneath we'll find the full text of [00:21:40.587] that work. So again, this is a speech. [00:21:43.439] with citation. I might add. [00:21:45.778] Oftentimes it's difficult to [00:21:47.880] cite a speech so we do include [00:21:49.910] that citation here. they'll be able [00:21:52.009] to pull that as needed [00:21:55.729] You know, we've got about eight minutes left in [00:21:57.759] our session today. So I do have some wrap up information. [00:22:00.180] I want to give you before we're before we [00:22:02.278] sign off. But again, anyone with any [00:22:04.380] questions if you want to take a closer look at something [00:22:06.680] that I didn't hit on, put [00:22:08.750] that into the Q. And A. Now for me. And we can certainly [00:22:11.028] do that. But while you're typing questions, [00:22:13.097] if you have any, I wanna give you some contact [00:22:15.847] information. So if you want to talk about this resource [00:22:18.077] a little bit, bit more. Or maybe you want to talk [00:22:20.097] about best practices or how you can [00:22:22.298] promote it out to your students or to [00:22:24.367] your patrons. You have a customer success [00:22:26.689] manager who can help you out with that. If you [00:22:28.759] don't know who yours is, if you haven't spoken to them [00:22:30.798] yet, send an email to gil at customer success [00:22:33.347] at dot com, we're going to forward [00:22:35.489] you to the correct individual. You can schedule with them [00:22:37.709] and really go through anything you need to be successful [00:22:39.910] with this resource. This [00:23:02.798] webinar will be posted there after the session [00:23:04.847] today. We also have other recorded webinars [00:23:06.857] and shorter tutorials. We do [00:23:08.930] also include things like lesson plans, [00:23:11.288] um activities, bookmarks, [00:23:14.308] tips sheets, resource guides, flyers. [00:23:16.439] The list goes on. So if you're planning on doing anything [00:23:18.910] with your Gail resources planning and promoting [00:23:20.930] or getting them into the classroom or whatever you want to do.
