[00:00:04.948] Today, we're going to be talking about how you can [00:00:07.150] support your patrons affected by both [00:00:09.179] Alzheimer's disease and dementia specifically [00:00:11.919] with Gale health and wellness. My name [00:00:13.970] is Amber Winters and I am a senior senior [00:00:16.388] training consultant here at Gale [00:00:18.519] and I'll be working with you today through this session. [00:00:21.199] So a quick agenda. First, I do want to talk about [00:00:23.420] some of the supporting content that we have [00:00:25.500] available for your patrons. I will briefly [00:00:27.658] mention just what gil health and wellness [00:00:29.929] is overall and then go over a bit of that [00:00:31.958] content but will mainly be within [00:00:34.020] the resource today because I want to show you some of [00:00:36.060] the different different workflows your patrons can utilize [00:00:38.439] as well as some different kind of little [00:00:40.700] gems within the resource that could definitely help [00:00:42.770] all sorts of patrons who are looking [00:00:44.918] for content either to support [00:00:46.929] themselves or to support loved ones [00:00:48.969] who are going through these terrible diseases. [00:00:51.789] And at the end of the session, we should have some time [00:00:53.918] for wrap up as well as questions and I do [00:00:56.079] have some contact information for you [00:00:58.158] there as well. [00:00:59.939] But if we have questions as we walk through the session [00:01:02.069] today, feel free to put them into the Q and [00:01:04.159] A and I should be able to answer them as we [00:01:06.219] move forward. But if we do start to see a lot [00:01:08.349] of questions in that Q and A that I will hold off just [00:01:10.500] until the very end of the session. So even [00:01:12.698] if your question isn't answered right away, don't worry, [00:01:15.079] they will be answered at the very end. [00:01:19.028] So briefly, just a background about gale health [00:01:21.129] and wellness, if you're new to the resource, [00:01:23.269] this is really a consumer focused [00:01:25.599] resource. So this is for kind of your, [00:01:27.909] your everyday patron who's just coming. I'm trying [00:01:30.109] to get some baseline knowledge about a specific [00:01:32.629] health condition, a medication, [00:01:34.989] um a diagnostic test they may [00:01:37.099] be having in the future or things like that. [00:01:39.370] They'll find a lot of great reference articles that will [00:01:41.430] kind of provide that background information. But [00:01:43.439] we also have a huge selection of [00:01:45.629] both the magazines and news articles. [00:01:48.049] So if they're trying to keep up with, let's say a new [00:01:50.150] medication that's in the news, they'll be able [00:01:52.250] to find that content right here on the platform. [00:01:54.269] Instead of having to navigate through, [00:01:56.388] you know, three different news sites to find that information. [00:01:58.730] We have it all listed here and we also have [00:02:00.750] a great multimedia collection. So if you have [00:02:02.888] patrons coming in, who maybe are [00:02:04.918] struggling readers or maybe they have trouble seeing [00:02:07.088] the screen, you know, if they are elderly coming [00:02:09.288] in trying to search for the Alzheimer's information. [00:02:11.710] We do have a lot of great multimedia content [00:02:14.149] that can help them out, things like audio files and [00:02:16.189] videos, as well as images and [00:02:18.258] diagrams and graphs and things like that. So this is a [00:02:20.278] really accessible resource for [00:02:22.419] any type of patron who's trying to come in [00:02:25.520] and what we'll take a look at today specifically [00:02:27.588] when we're talking about Alzheimer's and dementia [00:02:29.618] is some of our different filtering options. [00:02:32.258] These are really helpful as your patrons [00:02:34.460] are running maybe broad searches, maybe they're not [00:02:36.679] 100% sure what they're coming in for. [00:02:38.788] Our filtering can really help them narrow [00:02:40.838] it down to exactly what they're looking for. Specifically [00:02:43.159] the subject filter that we're going to take a look [00:02:45.179] at. And I've also got some great publication [00:02:47.719] titles I want to pull out for you that you may want to recommend [00:02:50.219] your patrons take a look at, especially [00:02:52.319] if they're just starting their, their research kind [00:02:54.528] of pathway. [00:02:57.000] And finally, we do have some great research tools [00:02:59.319] here as well. So if you have patrons coming in who [00:03:01.429] are maybe working as a family, maybe they have [00:03:03.479] a parent [00:03:04.429] who's suffering through one of these diseases [00:03:06.879] and them and their siblings are kind of researching together. [00:03:09.379] We've got some great collaboration [00:03:11.710] in text manipulation tools that [00:03:13.729] will help them work together and pull all [00:03:15.868] that information and maybe have it ready for a [00:03:17.879] doctor's appointment if they're planning on going to the [00:03:19.939] doctor or just bring it to their parents [00:03:22.000] to kind of inform them of what's going on. [00:03:24.800] And I do want to mention here that this resource [00:03:27.189] is a supplemental resource. [00:03:29.349] This is not replace a physician or [00:03:31.409] anything like that. This is going to be supplemental [00:03:33.788] to a physician. So this is great for patrons [00:03:36.520] who may be trying to build a list of questions [00:03:39.028] as they're going to see their doctor or maybe [00:03:41.229] they just met with their doctor and maybe are a little bit [00:03:43.243] confused or want to dig deeper into a recommendation [00:03:45.804] made by that doctor. That's what [00:03:47.835] we're here for. This is the nice supplemental [00:03:50.064] content that's going to kind of bolster the understanding [00:03:52.683] that they've gotten from their doctor and really [00:03:54.865] make them informed as they start to speak with [00:03:56.955] their doctor about testing or whatever it may [00:03:59.054] be. So, [00:04:01.469] let's talk specifically about some of the content [00:04:03.838] we have curated in here for Alzheimer's and [00:04:05.889] dementia. So first off is going to be [00:04:08.050] our Alzheimer's Disease topic page [00:04:10.719] and we've curated this page because of course, [00:04:12.879] this is a topic that is searched and browsed [00:04:15.159] and utilized quite frequently. [00:04:17.468] And what we've done is we've created an overview at the [00:04:19.497] top of the page here and this is going to give your users [00:04:21.769] kind of a background about Alzheimer's [00:04:23.877] what it is, some of the symptoms, [00:04:25.988] they may see some of the treatments really, just that [00:04:28.088] base level information that's going to help [00:04:30.168] propel them forward. [00:04:32.160] But moving on from there, you'll see underneath, we [00:04:34.420] kind of pull out different content buckets for [00:04:36.548] your users. As I mentioned, we have a lot [00:04:38.639] of multimedia content like videos and audio. [00:04:40.858] We've pulled those forwards [00:04:42.879] separately, you'll see images here in reference [00:04:45.298] content. So I definitely recommend [00:04:47.569] if you have patrons coming in who are struggling [00:04:49.798] to find content. This may be [00:04:51.850] a good place for you to direct them. [00:04:53.939] I'll show you there are two ways to access. They can either [00:04:56.059] search and find it or they can browse and find it. [00:04:58.449] And there's also a way to get a link. So if you want [00:05:00.608] to copy a link and send it out to that patron [00:05:02.819] who's struggling, you'll be able to do that as well. I'll [00:05:04.838] show you how to get a link to this specific [00:05:07.129] topic page here [00:05:09.040] and we have both overview and detailed [00:05:11.178] articles. So whatever level your [00:05:13.358] patron is at, if they've been you [00:05:15.528] know, struggling through this disease with their parents for [00:05:17.579] a while or with their spouse for a while, and they have [00:05:20.230] maybe something really specific in mind that [00:05:22.309] their doctor has recommended that they need to learn about [00:05:24.699] maybe a specific treatment plan [00:05:26.819] that would be new to them. [00:05:28.689] They can find that very, very detailed information, [00:05:30.949] they can go as far as look at medical journals [00:05:33.559] to get a really deep understanding of what [00:05:35.670] they're taking a look at or they'll get the very [00:05:37.750] basics. You know, this is how you [00:05:39.939] help a parent with Alzheimer's [00:05:41.959] disease bat. This is how you help [00:05:43.988] them visit with you know, family, visit [00:05:46.230] with strangers. This is how you help them grocery [00:05:48.238] shop. so they're going to get really [00:05:50.809] a holistic view of the disease [00:05:52.910] and how they can best deal with it. [00:05:56.199] I have pulled forward one publication. I'm [00:05:58.269] going to show you when we walk through the resource that I just [00:06:00.459] think is really handy. And this is [00:06:02.699] the Alzheimer's Association pamphlets. [00:06:05.559] So obviously, we've digitized them. [00:06:07.720] They're not in pamphlet format anymore, [00:06:09.980] but they're really kind of honed in on [00:06:12.059] different topics. Again, like I mentioned, maybe, [00:06:14.379] you know, helping [00:06:15.819] an individual with Alzheimer's bat [00:06:17.889] go grocery shopping, maybe figuring [00:06:20.230] out you know, home care, [00:06:22.238] things like that. They're these really simple [00:06:24.259] and fairly short pamphlet articles [00:06:27.209] that are going to help patrons. And again, they're very, [00:06:29.338] very consumer focused. So they're not [00:06:31.769] very technical or very medical, [00:06:34.199] they're really [00:06:35.588] simple ways to get this content over [00:06:37.988] to whatever patron is looking for [00:06:40.170] it. You'll see here. There's one [00:06:42.329] specifically for individuals who [00:06:44.850] have early onset Alzheimer's who are trying [00:06:47.209] to kind of wrap their heads around what's going on. [00:06:49.488] We have this great pamphlet here that can kind [00:06:51.548] of give them some background information [00:06:53.928] and kind of prepare them for the future, [00:06:55.949] prepare them for what they may experience. [00:07:00.619] But let's really dive into the resource because we [00:07:02.699] can talk about this content all day. But walking [00:07:05.160] through the resource itself is [00:07:07.250] definitely going to give us kind of a better understanding [00:07:09.629] of what your patrons are going to be seeing. [00:07:11.660] Now, I will pause here briefly. Does anyone have [00:07:13.889] any questions before we really dive into [00:07:15.949] how to find this content? [00:07:20.509] Ok. [00:07:21.548] I don't see any. So I'm going to go ahead [00:07:23.649] and start off then on the Gale Health and [00:07:25.678] Wellness home page here and there are two [00:07:27.769] main ways to find content. It's going to [00:07:29.798] be just your standard search and [00:07:31.869] scrolling down here. We have a browse [00:07:34.040] topics option here as well. [00:07:36.230] So of course, running a search is [00:07:38.338] generally going to be helpful if your patron has something [00:07:40.579] pretty specific in mind, while if they have something [00:07:42.910] more broad, they're not [00:07:45.230] 100% [00:07:47.488] figured out where they want to go [00:07:49.569] that it may be a better situation for browsing, [00:07:52.579] but I'm going to run a search first here so we can kind [00:07:54.689] of see what that looks like. So [00:07:56.649] if your patron comes in with a very specific question, [00:07:59.559] today, I'm going to run [00:08:01.790] a search for medication that was actually just recently [00:08:04.079] approved to treat Alzheimer's, [00:08:06.459] it's called Lake. [00:08:07.519] Hopefully, I pronounced that right. [00:08:09.730] but you may be getting questions from patrons [00:08:12.369] who have heard about this in the news [00:08:14.699] or may be interested or maybe their doctor or kind [00:08:17.088] of recommended it for them who may be taking [00:08:19.290] a look so they can search for a specific medication. [00:08:22.980] Emb I, [00:08:26.639] it's gonna pull forward quite a bit of content here. And [00:08:28.678] now again, this medication [00:08:30.850] has very recently been approved. [00:08:33.139] So, we don't have a huge amount of content [00:08:35.259] on it yet, just because it's, it's new and [00:08:37.279] you know, it's very recent that your [00:08:39.739] patrons are going to be seeing information about [00:08:41.879] this. But you'll see here when we do run [00:08:44.000] a search at the very top, it's going to show all [00:08:46.119] of the different content types available here. [00:08:48.580] So you see, you've got a fair amount of magazines and [00:08:50.678] news information here as well as an audio [00:08:52.889] file and one academic journal. [00:08:56.119] But these news and magazine reports [00:08:58.129] are really going to give a background [00:09:00.379] for your patrons on what this medication is. [00:09:03.009] what we've learned about it so far, [00:09:05.119] what's being said in the news and you'll see these are [00:09:07.200] very current. So I like [00:09:09.519] to point this out, especially if you're going to be working [00:09:11.558] with your patrons and you want to ensure [00:09:13.580] them that they're getting the best content. [00:09:15.619] You'll see this is from July 8th and [00:09:17.979] if we have someone who's watching a recording, [00:09:20.349] shout out to anyone watching this recording [00:09:22.418] today is July 20th. [00:09:24.908] So if you're watching a recording, this is just [00:09:27.000] a, a few weeks back that we've pulled forward. [00:09:29.190] You'll see. [00:09:30.000] we have some from June here as well. [00:09:32.340] So we do update this continuously, especially [00:09:34.820] if there are new breakthroughs with different medications [00:09:37.239] or treatments or new information on research [00:09:39.369] related to, specific [00:09:41.538] disease or diagnosis. We do [00:09:43.639] update that frequently. So you'll see here again, we've [00:09:45.759] got our magazines listed here, some [00:09:47.918] audio files, listed some news here as [00:09:50.090] well. So we've pulled all those together here [00:09:52.979] and this is a great starting point again [00:09:55.279] for your patrons who are coming in with something very precise [00:09:57.759] in mind. They can also do this for [00:10:00.038] treatments or for testing. [00:10:02.320] So maybe you know, they have a parent going [00:10:04.500] in for an MRI or something like that. They [00:10:06.590] can also search for MRI S maybe bring [00:10:08.879] an MRI or things like that and find [00:10:10.969] content here as well. So that's just another layer [00:10:13.200] of searching. They can really search for anything [00:10:15.759] they don't have to just stick to a disease or something [00:10:18.099] like that. So [00:10:21.788] let's go ahead and jump back to the home page [00:10:23.830] now because I do want to show you the browsing [00:10:25.960] capabilities here as well. Sometimes [00:10:28.279] it's a little bit easier, especially for your patrons [00:10:30.389] who are just starting their journey who just really [00:10:32.548] don't know where to start [00:10:34.538] if we scroll down here [00:10:36.529] you'll see, we could browse through different topics. You [00:10:38.639] see, we've broken it up. So we do have the [00:10:40.690] diseases and conditions and a mental [00:10:42.710] health section. And our Alzheimer's [00:10:44.739] topic page is found under both. [00:10:47.048] Ok. So if they are searching for something [00:10:49.330] and it's kind of related to more than [00:10:51.450] one topic section, it will [00:10:53.460] be found in both. You see, we've also pulled forward [00:10:55.590] drugs as a separate section, diagnostics [00:10:58.200] and tests as well as therapies, [00:11:00.489] treatments and surgeries. So, [00:11:02.649] they may find information in all of these. But [00:11:04.769] if we're just starting off at a basic level, just [00:11:06.928] looking at Alzheimer's as a disease, [00:11:09.200] I'm going to click through diseases [00:11:11.389] and conditions. [00:11:15.279] Scroll down here. You'll see. I have Alzheimer's [00:11:17.369] disease listed and I have dementia listed [00:11:19.570] here separately as well because they are [00:11:21.619] separate diseases. I know I've been talking [00:11:23.918] heavily about Alzheimer's disease today. But [00:11:26.109] everything I'm talking about with Alzheimer's, [00:11:28.119] you will find the majority of that related to [00:11:30.219] dementia as well. But let's [00:11:32.428] click into the Alzheimer's topic page [00:11:34.500] here. So [00:11:38.058] just like that screenshot I showed you previously [00:11:40.418] at the very top of the page. There's going to be this [00:11:42.440] nice overview. [00:11:43.969] I'd like to recommend this to patrons just [00:11:46.080] as a kind of a backdrop for [00:11:48.158] their more advanced research. You'll see we [00:11:50.190] have causes and symptoms, the diagnosis [00:11:52.908] specific risk factors. So if you [00:11:54.940] have individuals coming in, who maybe [00:11:56.969] have a family history of Alzheimer's. [00:11:59.168] They want to maybe understand how they might [00:12:01.229] be able to [00:12:02.668] protect themselves from that. [00:12:04.590] They can take a look at risk factor [00:12:06.830] in different stages treatments, [00:12:08.969] things like that. [00:12:11.229] So again, a great place to start. [00:12:14.908] And I did mention before that you can get [00:12:16.969] a link to this topic page. So if [00:12:19.190] you want to save this for your patrons, instead [00:12:21.219] of having them browse on their own or search on their own. [00:12:23.830] If you use this, get link button right up top here, [00:12:27.609] that's a persistent URL and you can copy [00:12:29.710] and paste this. if you have [00:12:31.750] some sort of support group that meets in your library. [00:12:34.009] If you're running a program, program [00:12:36.158] related to Alzheimer's disease and [00:12:38.229] health and things like that, or again, if [00:12:40.340] you just have a patron inquiry and they're having trouble [00:12:42.399] finding content, you can copy and paste [00:12:44.460] this for them and they'll be able to click right into this [00:12:47.019] and be pulled here to this topic page and they'll [00:12:49.038] find all the content that they need. [00:12:51.969] Scrolling down here from that. Now, you'll see [00:12:54.190] on this topic page, we've pulled forward different [00:12:56.519] content buckets here. So you'll see [00:12:58.590] all of our reference materials, magazines, [00:13:00.750] anything we have available here, you'll see [00:13:02.889] it specifically related to Alzheimer's disease. [00:13:04.960] We have a lot more medic sorry, academic [00:13:07.109] journals. So if you have higher level [00:13:09.349] patrons who have, you know, been [00:13:11.580] researching for a while, they understand the basics [00:13:13.808] of Alzheimer's, they need to know more [00:13:16.109] academic journals might be the [00:13:18.139] way for them to go. Maybe they're running through some genetic [00:13:20.298] screening coming up. They can get a lot of information [00:13:22.619] from those academic journals. But [00:13:24.869] I do like to point out those are very high [00:13:27.029] level. So if your patrons are coming to you looking for [00:13:29.119] content and are maybe, a little [00:13:31.168] frustrated with the high leveled information, [00:13:33.408] I'll show you a way that you can narrow it down just to consumer [00:13:35.869] health info. So we're kind of cutting out that [00:13:37.989] really high level stuff that may not be as helpful [00:13:40.428] for your patrons. [00:13:43.019] So scrolling down here, you'll see. We have all of our different [00:13:45.340] content buckets listed here and [00:13:47.379] I do want to show you before I click into any of those [00:13:49.509] at the very bottom of the page here. You'll [00:13:51.830] see we include related topics. So we [00:13:53.928] have aging listed here and then dementia [00:13:56.379] is listed as well. So if they've read through Alzheimer's, [00:13:58.668] they want to learn a bit more about dementia. [00:14:01.558] They can click here and Demento right [00:14:03.928] now doesn't have a pre created topic page. [00:14:06.058] So you'll see it takes them to an organized search [00:14:08.369] results page instead. So they don't [00:14:10.629] have that overview right now, but they do still have [00:14:13.099] all of this content nice and organized [00:14:15.119] for them here. [00:14:18.889] But let's go ahead and stick with our [00:14:20.960] Alzheimer's topic page here. I'm going [00:14:23.219] to scroll back up to the top [00:14:25.320] and I'll click today into our reference works because [00:14:27.529] a lot of times this is where your patrons are going to want [00:14:29.649] to start just getting the facts about [00:14:32.029] Alzheimer's. They may not want to have any sort of [00:14:34.639] current events, clouding [00:14:36.859] their judgment or any sort of commentary, [00:14:39.158] clouding their judgment. They really just want [00:14:41.399] the hard facts about Alzheimer's. The reference [00:14:43.759] materials will most likely be a good place [00:14:46.000] for them to go to [00:14:48.168] scrolling down here. You'll see, we have [00:14:50.379] all of these great bits of information, [00:14:52.428] but I want to take a look at these filters on this [00:14:54.509] right hand side here because again, these are [00:14:56.529] going to be really beneficial. [00:14:58.668] We have a subject strapped down here. [00:15:01.239] You'll see if we can kind of pull forward. So if [00:15:03.340] we're specifically talking [00:15:05.619] about um I don't know how [00:15:07.830] aging is related to Alzheimer's [00:15:09.849] things like that. We do have the ability [00:15:11.889] to take a look at that here. [00:15:14.469] The subjects option comes in really handy [00:15:16.690] if they're looking at magazines because [00:15:19.070] obviously magazines, um there [00:15:21.389] is a huge number of 16 thousands, but a lot [00:15:23.469] of times they're talking not only about Alzheimer's [00:15:25.889] but also about other things. So they [00:15:27.918] can kind of narrow down the subjects to exactly what [00:15:30.048] they need. We also have underneath [00:15:32.210] that a few different check marks here. So [00:15:34.279] if they only want to see documents with images, they [00:15:36.330] have that ability. [00:15:38.308] They also have this consumer health [00:15:40.369] button. So this is where [00:15:42.658] they're going to want to click if they don't want to see any [00:15:44.788] sort of academic journals or anything like that. [00:15:46.950] If they're worried that that's too high level, [00:15:49.139] they can narrow down just to this consumer health [00:15:51.349] and they're going to see that content. [00:15:53.500] And finally, we do have another button here. [00:15:55.619] This is going to narrow down just a Spanish [00:15:58.000] content. And a lot of the Spanish [00:16:00.219] content we have within this resource are [00:16:02.269] actually magazines published [00:16:04.820] in Spanish. So for the most part, they're going [00:16:06.989] to find Spanish content under the magazine [00:16:09.399] section here. But we do have that filter [00:16:11.690] listed all of under all of our content [00:16:13.798] types. So they can easily navigate to that as [00:16:15.899] needed. [00:16:18.139] But let's click over. I mentioned on [00:16:20.359] my slides, the Alzheimer's Association [00:16:22.840] pamphlets. I really like those. [00:16:24.918] So [00:16:25.700] if you do mention those to a patron or you just [00:16:27.859] want to look at them yourself if you go under [00:16:30.019] publication title, since it starts with a, it's [00:16:32.119] actually listed first here at the [00:16:34.178] Alzheimer's Association pamphlets. [00:16:36.418] So let's go ahead and apply that and we can take a look at just [00:16:38.658] those. [00:16:40.029] You'll see, we have 51 of them here. [00:16:43.149] You notice they are a little bit older. [00:16:45.168] They are from 2008. But what [00:16:47.190] I like about them is they're [00:16:49.599] more generic. They're not you [00:16:51.950] know, talking about the most current treatments [00:16:54.379] for Alzheimer's. It's things like driving [00:16:56.678] dental feelings, [00:16:58.979] dressing, bathing, as I mentioned previously, [00:17:01.450] warning signs of Alzheimer's disease. So [00:17:03.759] these things aren't necessarily, you know, how you're [00:17:05.779] going to be treated for Alzheimer's. [00:17:07.930] It's more um [00:17:10.390] kind of the, the things that are adjacent to treatment [00:17:12.789] that some individuals may not think about until [00:17:14.900] they're having to deal with it. So [00:17:17.000] let's go ahead and click into one. Why don't we click [00:17:19.239] into [00:17:20.858] driving here? That's, I'm sure a, [00:17:22.880] a big issue for a lot of, especially [00:17:25.588] um Children whose parents are suffering with Alzheimer's [00:17:28.150] is figuring out how they're going to deal with driving [00:17:30.219] because most likely they will become a point [00:17:32.459] where they shouldn't be driving anymore and their [00:17:34.598] Children are going to have to make that decision for their parents. [00:17:37.259] So we do have a pamphlet specifically [00:17:39.630] on driving here [00:17:42.809] and you'll take a look here. It's pretty chunked out [00:17:44.900] text wise. So it's not just a huge wall [00:17:47.150] of text for your patrons. You'll see. [00:17:49.229] sometimes we just give little bullet points [00:17:51.410] here. So this is looking [00:17:53.910] for signs of unsafe driving here. So if they [00:17:56.000] want to kind of take a look at that, they'll be able to do [00:17:58.150] that. And then we have tips underneath [00:18:00.549] here that are going to help them. So as opposed to [00:18:02.650] just kind of a, a full stop, hard [00:18:04.818] stop, take their keys away, this is going [00:18:06.920] to give some different strategy that may help [00:18:08.949] them kind of work more [00:18:11.118] closely with their parents or with their spouse [00:18:13.219] or whoever they're taking care of, to [00:18:15.449] make sure that they can do this with as [00:18:17.500] little conflict as possible. So this [00:18:19.549] is really trying to make that individual's [00:18:21.799] life a little bit easier here. [00:18:28.189] And what I love about this is [00:18:30.818] I can mark this up here. So if I find something [00:18:32.949] really interesting and again, say I'm working with [00:18:35.848] a sibling or an aunt or an uncle, [00:18:38.170] or maybe I'm pulling this from my parent, [00:18:40.348] I can highlight specific bits that are really [00:18:42.430] important. So maybe I read this, [00:18:44.479] you know, [00:18:45.989] and showing them the signs of unsafe driving [00:18:48.088] and maybe they're exhibiting some of them, I can [00:18:50.430] highlight that. And if I want to share this with [00:18:52.650] whoever I'm working with, I can [00:18:54.799] choose to send it right here [00:18:57.709] and I can send it over to a drive if I want [00:18:59.789] to save it that way or I can email it. [00:19:02.108] So if I do want to get this information out of [00:19:04.219] this platform or maybe just save it for [00:19:06.289] myself. If I want to save it for my drive, [00:19:08.529] I can do that right here. I don't need to worry about, [00:19:10.828] you know, backing out or hitting save somewhere else. [00:19:14.279] I can also download or print this document [00:19:16.338] if I prefer, if I want to keep it that way, [00:19:18.660] you know, printing, sometimes it's more [00:19:20.779] beneficial if I'm going to be giving this to an elderly [00:19:23.209] individual as opposed to trying to get them to sign [00:19:25.358] on and read through that way. So we do have a nice [00:19:27.559] easy print button right here [00:19:29.739] and just like that topic page, we do have a get [00:19:31.868] link button. So again, if you found [00:19:33.920] this for a patron and you want to share this with a [00:19:35.930] patron, you can use the get link and that may be [00:19:38.019] easier Or your patrons can [00:19:40.358] you know, copy and paste those links somewhere and just use it [00:19:42.420] later. That way, if they prefer to just collect [00:19:44.519] links, as suppose to sending documents [00:19:46.838] to their drive, they'll be able to do that using that [00:19:48.959] get link. [00:19:52.039] And as your patrons are kind of clicking through [00:19:54.059] and learning some different information. I want [00:19:56.199] to point out some of the accessibility tools [00:19:58.209] that are going to be really helpful, especially in [00:20:00.309] this sort of circumstance where you may be dealing [00:20:02.420] with patrons who are having trouble utilizing [00:20:04.910] computers, reading computers, things like that [00:20:07.209] first is translate options. So if you have [00:20:09.473] a large population of non-english [00:20:11.535] speakers coming into your library, they [00:20:13.654] have the ability to translate our articles. [00:20:15.733] Seriously. We have quite a few different languages. [00:20:18.314] So we do want to keep this as accessible as [00:20:20.344] possible to anyone speaking a different [00:20:22.515] language in your library. [00:20:24.719] It can also increase and decrease the font [00:20:26.910] size. So this is really handy for individuals [00:20:29.098] who may have trouble seeing the screen, [00:20:31.400] you'll see, you can increase the size quite a bit [00:20:33.420] here to lower that down a little bit though. [00:20:37.088] Next up, we have some additional display options. [00:20:39.509] So this is going to make it even more visible. [00:20:41.588] You'll see if we can choose a background color, whatever [00:20:43.848] is going to work best for them, [00:20:45.588] we've got different fonts here. So again, whatever [00:20:47.709] is going to work the best we do include a dyslexia [00:20:50.209] font, which I think is a great feature [00:20:52.259] available here and then we can [00:20:54.279] change the line letter and word spacing. [00:20:56.479] So again, as accessible as [00:20:58.598] we can possibly be, that's our goal here. [00:21:00.709] So we can really change this to [00:21:02.799] enhance whatever we're looking at. But I'm going [00:21:05.068] to go ahead and set back to my default settings for the [00:21:07.118] day. One [00:21:09.368] final tool next to the display options, [00:21:11.568] is this listen option. So if [00:21:13.660] even with the display options, your patron [00:21:15.809] is just having trouble reading through this [00:21:17.880] document, maybe paying attention to this document, [00:21:20.269] they can listen to it, they can have the full text [00:21:22.469] read to them and it is read to them in whatever [00:21:25.009] language they translated into. So [00:21:27.108] if you have a native Spanish speaker who translated [00:21:29.568] this pamphlet into Spanish and then [00:21:31.680] they want to listen to it, they'll just hit that listen [00:21:33.789] button, same as anyone else and it will [00:21:36.009] read to them in that language it's already translated [00:21:38.229] to. So in Spanish [00:21:42.029] on this, right? Hand side, you'll see, we also have [00:21:44.049] an explorer panel that's going to kind of move [00:21:46.410] around, to different, [00:21:48.430] more like this options or different related [00:21:50.838] subjects. You'll see here, looks like [00:21:52.880] these, we have a few different newspaper [00:21:55.130] articles that we've pulled forward. This [00:21:57.578] one might be a reference article, but they can [00:21:59.598] kind of click for it this way and move and take [00:22:01.640] a look. So you'll see here again, a related [00:22:03.890] subjects. Of course, it's going to be Alzheimer's disease [00:22:06.250] and elderly drivers are going to meet those [00:22:08.469] main topics here, but we can click into those [00:22:10.709] and learn even more. [00:22:13.358] I'll hit the back button here, [00:22:15.719] scroll back up [00:22:18.098] and jump back into our topic page just so we can [00:22:20.199] briefly take another look here. [00:22:22.739] So again, our magazines, newspapers are pulled [00:22:24.989] out, but I want to show you these nice videos. [00:22:28.430] Generally, they're going to be pretty short. I think [00:22:30.598] sometimes you may find one [00:22:32.328] in the five minute range, but usually they're just a few [00:22:34.568] minutes just giving a kind of a background [00:22:36.739] of something specific. I can click [00:22:38.818] into any of these here. Um We'll click into [00:22:40.910] this first one. Why not [00:22:44.289] gonna pause it because you won't be able to hear it. Yeah, so this one's five [00:22:46.400] minutes. [00:22:47.199] So I'd just like to point out that [00:22:49.430] in addition to having just the video itself, [00:22:51.969] we do include the transcript down here below [00:22:54.209] as well. [00:22:56.009] So if they prefer to read the transcript of [00:22:58.239] a video. We always include that here for [00:23:00.348] them and we do have the option to get [00:23:02.400] a link to this page as well. So if it's a nice video [00:23:04.549] that they want to share out, they can get a link [00:23:06.858] and they, they can take into this page directly [00:23:09.509] where they'll be able to click into the video. [00:23:14.039] Now, we've got about five minutes left in this [00:23:16.160] session and I do want to open up for [00:23:18.209] any questions. We may have different [00:23:20.630] pathways to find content or maybe different [00:23:22.680] content types that you want to take a look at that. [00:23:24.699] I haven't covered today. We have [00:23:26.880] this five minutes. I would love to do that while [00:23:29.779] I'm waiting for anyone to type in questions. [00:23:32.108] I have some contact information I want to give [00:23:34.299] you. So if you do have questions, keep typing [00:23:36.559] them in, I'm going to watch out and I'll answer those. But while [00:23:38.739] we wait, if you have more questions [00:23:41.009] about this resource or you want to learn more about [00:23:43.209] how it can help patrons, you know, dealing [00:23:45.449] with some other diseases, maybe cancer, things [00:23:47.588] like that. You have a lot of individuals coming [00:23:49.910] in looking for that sort of content, [00:23:51.939] feel free to reach out to your customer success [00:23:54.049] manager and they can walk you through the resource [00:23:56.368] a little bit more and go over some different best practices [00:23:58.750] for using it. If you don't know who your customer [00:24:00.828] success manager is just send a quick [00:24:03.019] email to gale.customersuccess@cengage.com [00:24:05.368] and we'll forward you to the correct [00:24:07.588] person you'll be able to meet with them [00:24:09.469] if you don't have Gale health and wellness right now, but you [00:24:11.509] want to talk about getting it, you can reach out to your sales [00:24:13.630] consultant. If you don't know who that is, just [00:24:16.029] go to support.gale.com/repfinder [00:24:18.130] you'll put in [00:24:20.199] your library's information and you'll be directed [00:24:22.250] to that individual. [00:24:24.328] If you're planning on getting this information out to [00:24:26.449] patrons, maybe you're looking for marketing materials [00:24:28.848] or training materials. You can find all [00:24:30.930] of that on our support site, prec created [00:24:32.969] it support.gale.com. So you don't need to [00:24:35.029] reinvent the wheel. You can find [00:24:37.039] greats, flyers, posters, [00:24:39.709] tip sheets, resource guides, all [00:24:42.150] related to this to this resource. [00:24:44.400] So you can go ahead and access it there. [00:24:46.660] And if you have the time I do have a training session [00:24:48.949] survey, I would love for you to take. You'll see.
