[00:00:00.008] Hello, thank you for joining our session today. [00:00:02.649] We're going to be talking about Gale Business: Insights [00:00:04.889] specifically for public libraries. [00:00:07.730] My name is Amber Winters and I appreciate [00:00:09.759] you for being on the line. [00:00:11.648] If you have any questions as we move through [00:00:13.728] today, feel free to pop them into the Q [00:00:15.750] and A is already open for you and I'll be able to check [00:00:17.899] those as we move along. [00:00:20.539] I've got a brief agenda here for everyone. [00:00:22.548] So first do you want to talk about what's [00:00:24.559] included within the resource, what your patrons [00:00:26.638] are going to see, [00:00:27.870] then we'll talk about kind of a couple of use cases. [00:00:30.388] So a couple of different patron types, this resource [00:00:32.709] is really going to support. After [00:00:34.868] that, we'll walk through to make sure you understand where [00:00:36.969] all of the different bits of content [00:00:39.000] are located as well as take a look [00:00:41.118] at some of the different workflows that might benefit [00:00:43.259] your patrons. [00:00:44.500] And then at the very end of the session, we should have [00:00:46.668] time for any questions that I'm not able to [00:00:48.728] answer as we move along. [00:00:51.270] And I do have some support information for you as [00:00:53.429] well. Now before [00:00:55.569] I start, are there any questions or any comments, comments [00:00:58.240] about g business insights before we [00:01:00.270] kind of get rolling? [00:01:03.408] No, I don't see any. So let's go ahead and [00:01:05.418] get started. So gale business insights [00:01:07.829] at the very kind of base level, it's going [00:01:10.019] to provide company, industry [00:01:12.138] and country information. So [00:01:14.189] we have detailed profiles that we've built [00:01:16.319] out for over 400,000 [00:01:18.719] companies. We also have investment [00:01:21.338] and brokerage reports. So [00:01:23.760] financial information you'll find in here as well. [00:01:26.230] And we also have quite a few great swat reports [00:01:28.638] for different companies. So we've [00:01:30.760] built these profiles specifically [00:01:33.308] for your patrons to be able to just click into [00:01:35.528] and get all of the information they need about [00:01:37.558] that company or about that industry or that [00:01:39.620] country. So they'll find the history, [00:01:41.799] the financials. [00:01:43.698] If there are kind of current events circling around [00:01:45.989] the company or the industry, they'll find [00:01:48.079] that information on these great profile pages [00:01:50.370] as well. In addition [00:01:52.659] to that, we've got some comparison charts [00:01:54.680] which are going to be really handy for your [00:01:56.900] patrons coming in. Maybe wanting to compare two [00:02:00.650] businesses within the same industry to see [00:02:02.918] you know how they're trending versus each other. [00:02:05.730] Maybe they want to take a look at re revenue, [00:02:07.849] things like that. And they can also compare different [00:02:10.020] countries or different industries to [00:02:12.069] get a better feel of kind of what's going on in [00:02:14.099] the world. [00:02:15.699] And these charts are completely customizable. [00:02:17.919] And they can also be sent over to Google or [00:02:19.939] Microsoft drives and they could be emailed [00:02:22.008] or downloaded. So if your patron [00:02:24.129] builds out some sort of chart that they think [00:02:26.308] will come in handy with whatever they're doing, they'll [00:02:28.389] be able to save that chart, get [00:02:30.439] it out of the platform for l for later [00:02:32.528] use. [00:02:35.069] And finally, we've got quite a few different business [00:02:37.429] and industry publications. So over [00:02:39.580] 16,000 periodicals, [00:02:41.750] so that's going to include journals like [00:02:43.778] trade journals as well as news [00:02:45.889] and magazine titles. So not only are they [00:02:47.909] getting kind of the the trade and the industry [00:02:50.058] specific publications, [00:02:51.770] but they're also going to get just general news [00:02:53.838] information. So as these industries, [00:02:56.199] as these companies are starting to pop up [00:02:58.258] within different publications, we [00:03:00.288] pull all of that information into gale business [00:03:02.538] insights as well to kind of have a one [00:03:04.679] stop shop for all of the content related [00:03:06.860] to this business [00:03:08.419] materials and some key [00:03:10.479] titles that I like to point out that a lot of patrons [00:03:13.058] enjoy reading through to the New York [00:03:15.129] Times, the Financial Times and the economists. [00:03:17.588] So those three are used [00:03:19.649] quite frequently and they are available [00:03:21.740] within Gale Business: Insights and they're [00:03:23.750] actually browse [00:03:25.020] right on the home page of Gale Business: Insights [00:03:27.050] So we'll take a look at that. So you can see [00:03:29.210] how to easily direct your patrons to [00:03:31.460] what they need without even searching. We've got [00:03:33.550] a really nice powerful browse [00:03:35.889] walk through our [00:03:37.990] um excuse me, workflow, [00:03:40.149] that's going to let your patrons find content [00:03:42.159] without even searching at all. So if they don't know exactly [00:03:44.618] what they need, [00:03:45.710] our browsing is going to allow them to get to [00:03:47.740] it anyways. [00:03:50.409] So let's talk about a couple of different patron [00:03:52.819] types that might be coming in and may benefit from [00:03:54.919] this resource. Now, I've just included [00:03:57.038] three, of course, you as librarians [00:03:59.080] most likely have many more in mind. [00:04:01.389] But the three that I've chosen to highlight, so first [00:04:03.558] is going to be small business owners. I'm [00:04:05.599] sure a lot of you are getting small business [00:04:07.625] owner owners coming in frequently looking [00:04:09.903] for supports either as they start [00:04:11.985] a business or they continue to run or tweak [00:04:14.064] their business. So they'll find a lot of information [00:04:16.605] that's really handy in this resource. So [00:04:18.704] I specifically like to point out case studies. [00:04:21.254] So if they're may be modeling their business off [00:04:24.220] a different successful business and they [00:04:26.319] want to see the study of it, how that business started [00:04:28.959] at the different steps they took to be successful. [00:04:31.689] They'll find case studies in here [00:04:33.829] on this platform. The SWAT reports are also [00:04:36.009] going to be really handy for them if they're [00:04:38.028] planning on developing their own SWAT report, which [00:04:40.170] is strengths, weaknesses, [00:04:42.244] opportunities and threats. So if they're kind [00:04:44.423] of trying to evaluate the internal [00:04:46.915] and external factors surrounding their business, [00:04:49.004] we have those pre created so they can take [00:04:51.165] a look at them. They are Real world, they're [00:04:53.233] from real companies who have built them out to [00:04:55.564] show off to investors and [00:04:57.584] to the public as a whole. They'll also find [00:04:59.684] trade journals in here which are pretty helpful [00:05:02.004] to kind of get them engaged in whatever [00:05:04.285] business, whatever industry they're going to be starting [00:05:06.475] within. We also have those great [00:05:08.670] industry profiles that have the industry [00:05:11.048] all developed, nice and simply for them. [00:05:13.298] So they'll be able to understand the key players [00:05:15.350] within that industry. If they're planning on jumping [00:05:17.358] in, they'll be under able to understand the [00:05:19.389] financials, they'll be able to see trends within [00:05:21.540] the industry. So if the industry [00:05:23.579] is maybe in decline a little bit, they can kind of [00:05:25.608] evaluate where they are with their company. If they [00:05:27.619] want to take the risk of starting it [00:05:29.988] or if they want to move over to a different [00:05:32.250] industry and maybe pivot where they are right now. [00:05:34.980] And finally, we've got a few [00:05:37.019] different directory entries for different [00:05:39.149] associations. So again, [00:05:41.230] if they're trying to get connected with their industry [00:05:43.369] or maybe they want support from other individuals [00:05:45.660] within the industry, [00:05:46.959] they have this information for different associations, [00:05:49.470] so they can start joining those and start better [00:05:51.569] understanding how to run their specific [00:05:53.829] type of business [00:05:55.548] and get pointers and tips all that good stuff. [00:05:59.488] So in addition to small business owners, [00:06:01.548] business people in general are also also [00:06:03.588] going to thrive within this resource. So [00:06:05.879] if they're currently working for a business, as [00:06:07.959] opposed to starting their own, the company [00:06:10.170] and country profiles would certainly come [00:06:12.298] in handy. Maybe they're trying to see [00:06:14.319] competitors get some numbers on their [00:06:16.379] competitors, or maybe the company is thinking [00:06:18.619] of expanding into different countries [00:06:20.879] and want to kind of get a feel of what's going on in those [00:06:23.079] countries. [00:06:24.410] They can pull that within gil business insights. [00:06:27.160] We also include market share reports. [00:06:29.379] So if they're kind of trying to get an understanding [00:06:31.709] of where they fall in the the [00:06:33.720] general industry, they'll be able to see that [00:06:36.129] we've got our industry publications and profiles [00:06:39.040] and our comparison charts will be really handy [00:06:41.129] for your business people as well. So again, if [00:06:43.160] they want to compare a couple different [00:06:45.290] companies, a couple different industries or a couple [00:06:47.548] of different countries, [00:06:49.298] they'll be able to do that on the platform. [00:06:51.338] focus around a couple different kind [00:06:53.470] of key bits of information [00:06:55.988] that they'll be able to see. [00:06:58.059] And finally, [00:06:59.399] sometimes this is less [00:07:01.420] thought of but your investors and just your general [00:07:03.869] business interest patrons [00:07:06.259] are going to find a lot of information from this resource [00:07:08.738] as well because we include really basic [00:07:11.389] content all the way up to some pretty advanced [00:07:13.660] business ideas. So if [00:07:15.709] they're may be planning on investing in a company, [00:07:17.809] wanna see what's going on, wanna see how their company [00:07:20.139] is trending, see if they're in the news right now. [00:07:22.588] They'll be able to find all of that either by just [00:07:24.699] searching or within the company profiles. [00:07:28.259] Also on those company profiles, they're going [00:07:30.278] to see financials. So again, if they really want [00:07:32.439] to dig in, if they're a little bit more [00:07:34.449] advanced in their research strategy, [00:07:36.649] they'll be able to dive into financial [00:07:38.738] reports that have been public published [00:07:41.319] by the different companies. [00:07:43.519] And again, we have full magazines and [00:07:45.660] news reports available. So if they're not [00:07:47.699] necessarily interested in specific [00:07:50.048] industry publications, maybe they're not focused [00:07:52.209] on that, but they do still want to see what's going on [00:07:54.259] in the business world. [00:07:55.858] The magazines and news section is going to be really [00:07:57.988] beneficial for them. [00:08:00.259] And we also include investment reports. So [00:08:02.319] if they are planning on investing in different companies, [00:08:05.199] they can just look directly at the reports to kind of see [00:08:07.278] what's going on and see if it's a a good [00:08:09.809] investment, if it's a little bit risky, but they still want [00:08:11.879] to try it or maybe it's something that they should [00:08:13.939] avoid for. Now, they'll be able to find all of that [00:08:16.000] here on the platform as well. [00:08:18.809] So again, these are just three different kind of patron [00:08:21.230] types who can benefit from this resource. [00:08:23.540] They are not the only types I suggest [00:08:25.850] as we walk through today, kind of think about [00:08:28.088] who else may benefit from this [00:08:30.259] type of information because of course, there's quite [00:08:32.340] a few different types of individuals who will. [00:08:37.379] Now, I want to spend the rest of our time walking [00:08:39.500] through the resource, seeing the different workflows [00:08:41.678] and the different bits of content. But before [00:08:44.168] I do, does anyone have any questions for me? [00:08:49.658] OK. I don't see me. So let's go ahead [00:08:52.489] and jump over, [00:08:55.210] oops, almost timed out here. [00:08:57.229] So this is the home page of Gale business [00:08:59.330] insights. Now, this resource is really [00:09:01.509] broad, it has a lot of information. So [00:09:03.899] we're going to kind of walk through step by step [00:09:06.250] to make sure we can see where everything is located. [00:09:08.750] And most things can actually be accessed in more [00:09:10.950] than one place to allow for multiple [00:09:13.359] different workflows. So it's really gonna come [00:09:15.389] in handy to make sure all of your patrons [00:09:17.729] with their different needs are going to be able to access [00:09:19.908] the content. [00:09:21.330] But let's first just kind of orient ourselves [00:09:23.538] to the home page. So of course, [00:09:25.940] you'll have your basic search bar [00:09:28.058] as well as your advanced search here on this left [00:09:30.210] hand side. That's where a lot of patrons are going [00:09:32.279] to go. If they have something really specific [00:09:34.580] in mind that they're looking for, we'll take a look at that [00:09:36.719] a little bit later. [00:09:38.678] But in this toolbar underneath the banner, you'll [00:09:40.719] see we also have a few different options [00:09:43.000] within this toolbar. That's where you're going to find our comparison [00:09:45.639] charts section, [00:09:47.479] move it over we'll have our brows option [00:09:49.700] here as well. [00:09:51.428] So you'll see, we can browse by quite a few different things. [00:09:53.779] So if we want to browse by companies [00:09:56.239] or bigger things like industries or [00:09:58.500] countries, we can do that. We [00:10:00.710] also have our publications pulled out separately. [00:10:03.479] And under this line, there are a few kind of [00:10:05.500] really nice features like that. I like to point [00:10:07.548] out here. So we do have a full glossary. [00:10:10.859] If your patrons are new to business, they're [00:10:13.000] not quite comfortable with the business jargon [00:10:15.009] that they may see in this resource. We've [00:10:17.029] built out this glossary for them. It is searchable. [00:10:19.729] You'll see it's substantial, [00:10:22.509] but this can help them out and they don't need to leave the platform [00:10:25.080] to understand a term. You know, if they see something [00:10:28.029] in an investment report, let's say, and they have [00:10:30.080] no idea what it means, but they want to know they [00:10:32.288] can check out our glossary. They don't have to, you know, [00:10:35.570] go to Google and maybe gets not the [00:10:37.729] best not the best answer. [00:10:40.210] They'll be able to do that right here in this platform. [00:10:45.210] Just jumping back to home here also [00:10:47.538] under this browse option, you'll see, we've pulled [00:10:49.609] out financial reports, different [00:10:51.808] investment reports and Plunket [00:10:53.928] reports. So if they're looking for these specific [00:10:56.440] report types, as opposed to just searching [00:10:58.609] for a company or an industry as a whole, [00:11:01.139] their best bet is to go through this browse [00:11:03.158] option here as opposed to running a basic search, [00:11:06.308] they'll have success with advanced searches as well. [00:11:08.950] But having these pulled out separately is going to be [00:11:11.029] really handy for your patrons. So if they do just [00:11:13.190] wanna see what Plunket reports we have [00:11:15.250] available, we can click into those [00:11:18.769] and then you'll see they'll be able to search here still. [00:11:21.080] So it's still kind of like running a search, [00:11:23.479] but this is going to make sure they're only getting those [00:11:25.558] plunker reports. They're not going to pull back [00:11:27.859] content related to different things [00:11:29.960] and not going to pull back news reports and things like that, [00:11:32.070] that might cloud their results a little bit [00:11:34.940] and you'll see that they can search by [00:11:37.009] industry name or the industry code. [00:11:39.820] I always recommend if they have the industry [00:11:41.889] code to search by that just because it's [00:11:43.908] allows them to be a little bit more specific. [00:11:46.668] Sometimes when we're talking about industries, there may [00:11:48.769] be one or two that are just really, really close [00:11:50.979] together. So if they have that code, [00:11:53.149] it's just going to give them that just little [00:11:55.229] bit more specificity, but they can [00:11:57.369] search by either the name or the code here. [00:12:01.109] I'm going to jump right back here to the home page [00:12:03.340] just so we kind of have a, a landing point for [00:12:05.369] all of us. So next to this browse [00:12:07.668] drop down, we have a search history. So if they want [00:12:09.769] to go back to a previous search, they can do that [00:12:11.918] here. We also have this get [00:12:14.070] link button and this tool kind of follows [00:12:16.129] us along throughout the resource. And it is really handy [00:12:18.500] for patrons for you as well. [00:12:20.558] If you find content that you might want to share with [00:12:22.690] a small business group that you work with, [00:12:25.340] you can use this get link and it's going to give you a persistent [00:12:27.779] URL to whatever page you're on. [00:12:30.418] So you can copy and paste this link to in an [00:12:32.450] email and [00:12:34.558] an announcement, a social media blast [00:12:37.090] wherever you want to go and it is persistent. [00:12:39.830] So if we, you know, update the platform a little bit add [00:12:42.009] new content, this link is still going [00:12:44.058] to function the same. So you don't need to worry about, [00:12:46.129] you know, constantly updating it or things like [00:12:48.229] that. So if you ever want to share a link, [00:12:50.288] make sure you use this get link as [00:12:52.408] opposed to the address bar just because this [00:12:54.529] is persistent. The address bar is not, [00:12:59.239] we'll take a look at highlights and notes a little bit later when [00:13:01.349] we get into a document. [00:13:02.700] But let's scroll down here to the body of [00:13:04.840] the home page and this, we've really built [00:13:07.029] out to kind of support your patrons [00:13:09.269] if they do decide, they just kind of wanna browse, [00:13:11.428] they don't know exactly what they need. [00:13:13.769] So the first option here is going [00:13:15.928] to be our company profiles. So [00:13:18.048] each of these companies have a profile, we've completely [00:13:20.529] built out, that's going to really provide [00:13:22.808] all of the information your patrons are most [00:13:25.070] likely going to need about a company. [00:13:27.129] And I will note here that we do include [00:13:29.279] public and private companies. And [00:13:31.440] as you would expect public companies are generally [00:13:33.673] going to have a lot more information [00:13:36.173] than your private companies [00:13:38.565] just because public companies have to [00:13:40.614] make more public. That's why they're called public. [00:13:43.144] So you will see differences in the type [00:13:45.244] of information we have available and [00:13:47.325] it is going to change based on company as well. [00:13:49.455] Some companies may publish [00:13:51.575] more than other companies. So your patrons [00:13:53.984] will see some variation depending [00:13:56.094] on the company. Again, it just depends on [00:13:58.205] what they make public, what we can actually, you [00:14:00.215] know, hang on to what we can actually upload in here. [00:14:03.389] So they have the option, they can browse all companies [00:14:05.408] that they want to or you'll see, they can [00:14:07.590] actually click through some of the most search companies. [00:14:10.009] So this is what people are really looking [00:14:12.129] for and we pull this information based on usage [00:14:14.359] within the resource. So we evaluate [00:14:16.509] what patrons are using and kind [00:14:18.619] of pull it forward for them. [00:14:20.788] So let's click into one of these before [00:14:22.820] I move down in the rest of our home page. Let's just [00:14:24.859] take a look to see what a company profile looks [00:14:26.960] like. I'll click the first one. Amazon, [00:14:29.229] of course. [00:14:30.788] Amazon's big, everyone's talking about [00:14:33.000] Amazon, especially because it reaches into so [00:14:35.058] many different industries. So [00:14:37.349] let's take a look at Amazon here. So this is a company [00:14:39.788] profile. [00:14:41.418] We build these for all of the major companies. [00:14:43.918] I will say if your patron is looking [00:14:45.979] for a specific company and we don't have [00:14:48.070] a profile built out, you know, if they browse through [00:14:50.178] the companies and can't find it, they [00:14:52.200] can run a search and they'll still pull content for that [00:14:54.279] company. But [00:14:56.099] it just means that they're not the most used or the [00:14:58.190] most search companies. So they don't [00:15:00.229] have as much kind of developed for them. [00:15:02.330] But when we're on a company profile [00:15:04.389] page, you'll see at the very top here, we give some [00:15:06.500] contact information. So generally the [00:15:08.639] website and any social media that [00:15:10.719] they currently have, we give some [00:15:12.769] basic revenue information. [00:15:14.729] If there's a company hierarchy, you'll see, [00:15:16.879] Amazon has 15 subsidiaries. [00:15:18.899] So we've included those here. If I [00:15:20.918] click into them, [00:15:22.690] we can see those here and we can actually click into those [00:15:24.700] as well. If we want to specifically look [00:15:27.099] at a subsidiary of Amazon as opposed [00:15:29.219] to Amazon as a whole. [00:15:32.500] We've also got just some other basic information. [00:15:34.950] The company type obviously, Amazon [00:15:37.029] is a public company, [00:15:38.769] the headquarters, all that good stuff. [00:15:40.879] Then as I start to scroll down, it's going to get a [00:15:42.889] little bit more specific here. So [00:15:45.009] we have our company overview listed here on this [00:15:47.129] left hand side, [00:15:48.479] you'll find some different article types here. So [00:15:50.558] if I want to know the full history of an, of [00:15:52.609] a company where it started, [00:15:54.629] how it kind of moved forward, I'll [00:15:56.719] be able to do that here. This is really great for [00:15:58.859] small businesses just starting off again. [00:16:01.320] If they're hoping to have the same trajectory as [00:16:03.379] Amazon or as Walmart [00:16:05.879] Apple, they can kind of take a look [00:16:08.090] at how those companies started and how they progress [00:16:10.519] forward. [00:16:12.298] We also have other company details like [00:16:14.369] brands, leadership team, historical [00:16:16.750] revenue is pulled out separately here. So if [00:16:18.840] we want to track the trends in their revenue, we can do [00:16:20.969] that right here in the company details. [00:16:24.229] This company does have a swot analysis [00:16:26.538] again, not every company will, it just [00:16:28.599] depends on what they publish for us. [00:16:30.739] But this one does so I can click read [00:16:32.769] full swat analysis if I want [00:16:36.009] and you see this actually comes forward in [00:16:38.058] the formatting that they have created. So as opposed [00:16:40.469] to the standard html text [00:16:42.769] that you might see in like a news report [00:16:44.788] or something like that, we try to keep it in the, [00:16:47.320] the um [00:16:49.168] the original formatting. So your [00:16:51.340] users kind of get the real feel of what was published. [00:16:54.450] So they kind of understand if they're going to be building [00:16:56.489] something like this, how it looks, [00:16:59.450] maybe some key features and key ideas [00:17:01.538] that Amazon is included that they want to include in [00:17:03.580] their swa report [00:17:06.708] just gonna bounce back here. [00:17:10.698] So underneath that again, we're getting even [00:17:13.019] more specific now. So we're starting to see [00:17:15.087] things like their balance sheet, their cash [00:17:17.468] flow [00:17:18.417] and I can click to get a, a deeper understanding [00:17:20.958] by using one of the kind of full [00:17:23.327] options here. [00:17:25.180] And when I do hit that, [00:17:26.799] oops, when [00:17:29.409] I do hit that full option here, you'll [00:17:31.417] see I can narrow this down here [00:17:33.448] if I want to take a look at a specific reporting [00:17:35.858] period. So maybe I want to take a look back at the [00:17:37.888] past five years. I can do that here [00:17:40.067] and I can also compare right here. So if I [00:17:42.108] have another company, I want to compare to Amazon, [00:17:44.409] I can actually do that on this page [00:17:46.588] and then I have the option to download this information. [00:17:49.250] So if I feel like I wanna save this for later to [00:17:51.269] take a look back, [00:17:52.930] I'll just download right here and I'll be able to do that [00:17:56.729] and that's going to work. You jump back here [00:17:59.209] with all of these different sections. I'll be able to [00:18:01.299] do that same process [00:18:04.920] scrolling down. We've got a nice graph [00:18:07.078] here that's showing financial performance [00:18:11.039] underneath here. We're going to see the different [00:18:13.209] competitors for Walmart [00:18:15.328] or sorry, Walmart's number one for Amazon. [00:18:17.759] And we can actually click into any of these and be pulled [00:18:19.949] to those company profiles. If we like [00:18:22.420] I'm not going to move forward with any of these right now, [00:18:25.289] but we can, if we want to see their competitors [00:18:27.959] and from here, we can also pull up our compare [00:18:30.459] section. So if we want to compare Walmart [00:18:32.759] to Amazon, we can do that here. [00:18:35.229] In addition to being able to do it in our toolbar [00:18:37.279] top here, this compare button, [00:18:40.039] we'll see the industry they're listed in as [00:18:42.549] well as secondary industries. So of course, [00:18:44.680] Amazon's kind of got themselves [00:18:46.910] pulled forward into a lot of different industries. [00:18:49.858] So we'll see their main one and then we'll be able to click [00:18:52.078] into secondary industries if they're [00:18:54.189] available [00:18:56.818] and at the very bottom of these company profiles, [00:18:59.328] this is where you're going to see different articles [00:19:01.848] related to Amazon or to whatever company. [00:19:03.949] So once we move forward from all of that really [00:19:06.098] specific business content, this [00:19:08.420] is going to pull you to things like academic [00:19:10.769] journals. So if you have students coming in trade [00:19:13.160] journals are going to be here. If we have any news [00:19:15.449] reports, [00:19:17.348] they'll be here as well. Magazines, [00:19:19.930] our case studies appear here. So if [00:19:22.049] again, they want to kind of explore [00:19:24.479] the background of Amazon, [00:19:26.549] they can click into these case studies. [00:19:29.818] Our reference materials are really great. These are [00:19:31.838] kind of a a basic bit of understanding. [00:19:34.338] So they give kind of a little bit of a background about [00:19:36.969] whatever the company is or any [00:19:39.160] topic that's really related to the [00:19:41.209] company or kind of ingrained in the company. [00:19:44.088] And oftentimes we have videos here as well, especially [00:19:46.420] for the more popular companies who are in the [00:19:48.459] news a lot who are kind of being seen. [00:19:51.289] So you'll find different multimedia videos [00:19:53.608] here as well. Those come in really handy, especially [00:19:55.680] for your patrons who may be struggling [00:19:57.959] readers who really prefer to see the content [00:20:00.039] as opposed to reading it. [00:20:02.140] They'll be able to have these videos available [00:20:04.479] for them. [00:20:08.420] So any questions about these company [00:20:10.809] profiles before we jump back to the home [00:20:12.818] page and take a look at our next section. [00:20:20.890] So we have a quick question here. So are the Plunket [00:20:23.039] reports in the database the same as the ones [00:20:25.180] in the database that Plunket sells separately. [00:20:27.809] So I don't know exactly how Plunket sells [00:20:30.039] them, but they are reports directly from [00:20:32.239] Plunket. So [00:20:33.630] um they're kept in the same formatting. [00:20:35.739] So I would assume they're pretty similar [00:20:37.930] to how they're sold in that database. Um We [00:20:40.189] keep their formatting themselves and we pull [00:20:42.430] the, just pull the reports into our resource. [00:20:45.009] We don't edit those at all. So [00:20:47.199] so Laverne, I would assume they're fairly similar [00:20:49.368] to what Plunkett has in their own resource as well. [00:20:53.199] Let's take a look at what an industry profile [00:20:55.549] looks like. So again, this is still on the home page, [00:20:58.368] I'll just click the 1st 11 more time [00:21:01.640] and you see this is very similar again [00:21:03.670] to that company profile. It's going [00:21:05.729] to change a little bit. Obviously, there's [00:21:07.818] not going to be any direct contact [00:21:09.989] information for an industry as a whole. [00:21:12.009] So that's been kind of deleted from [00:21:14.029] the top here, [00:21:15.390] but scrolling down, you're going to see some key bits of information. [00:21:18.059] So the annual revenue, [00:21:19.809] the employees companies, [00:21:22.489] the largest company by revenue is listed [00:21:24.719] here as well. [00:21:26.650] Scrolling down here. What's nice is I can choose [00:21:29.000] what companies I want to take a look at. So it defaults [00:21:31.289] to showing me the top companies throughout [00:21:33.549] the world. But if I only want to see the top companies, [00:21:35.739] let's say in the United States, [00:21:37.640] I can narrow that down here and I'll just be able [00:21:39.680] to see that [00:21:41.500] and I can click into any of these companies [00:21:43.689] to take a closer look that's going to pull me forward [00:21:45.848] into a company profile. [00:21:48.269] And I can also click into the company [00:21:50.519] of origin here. [00:21:52.469] So the Starbucks, the is [00:21:54.489] that within the United States? Even though [00:21:56.500] of course, Starbucks is found outside of the US. [00:21:58.699] It is a US based company scrolling [00:22:01.170] down here, you'll see some different options. [00:22:03.239] There are a few from Japan, [00:22:05.838] things like that. And we're able to click directly into [00:22:07.890] those [00:22:09.539] on this left hand side here is we're going to find [00:22:11.719] your industry reports. So if we want some [00:22:13.809] detailed information, we'll find those here, [00:22:15.969] you'll see, we've got our Plunket reports related [00:22:18.088] to this industry pulled out on this page as well [00:22:20.328] and I can click into those [00:22:23.519] scrolling down. I also have the option to take a look [00:22:25.779] at related industries. So if I clicked into [00:22:27.910] this one and maybe it's not exactly what [00:22:29.969] I'm looking for, I can change it up here. [00:22:32.368] maybe I want to take a look at flavoring syrup. [00:22:34.789] Instead I can certainly do that. You'll see that's related [00:22:37.219] here, scrolling [00:22:41.598] down a little bit more here. We're going to have [00:22:43.729] our industry articles. So again, this is going [00:22:45.759] to take, this is going to look exactly [00:22:48.000] like the company version of this. [00:22:50.180] You'll see, we have all of the different content [00:22:52.650] types kind of broken out here and [00:22:54.759] we can scroll down and take a look and click into these [00:22:57.529] and you'll see for this, we've included different [00:22:59.568] company entries here as well. [00:23:01.709] So within this industry, we can take a look [00:23:03.848] at these different companies and click directly into [00:23:05.910] those [00:23:07.969] company profiles, [00:23:10.719] our trade articles are found here as well. [00:23:14.568] You see there's quite a bit of content and again, a few [00:23:17.088] different case studies will be found [00:23:19.338] here as well. [00:23:26.199] Now, let's jump back to home just the [00:23:28.229] one more time here [00:23:31.299] because I want to show you. So we took a look at industries, [00:23:34.108] we have a third profile option [00:23:36.410] and that's going to be for countries you'll see we listed [00:23:38.650] here as understanding major markets. [00:23:41.269] But then next to what you'll see. Most search countries [00:23:43.838] and then our browse option also lists countries [00:23:46.400] and territories just so your patrons understand [00:23:48.930] exactly what they're going to be looking for. [00:23:52.150] So let's click the first one again. Click in the [00:23:54.209] United States. That is the most used, [00:23:56.430] most searched countries in this resource. [00:23:59.709] When I click into this, [00:24:02.059] you'll see here. I've got just my general, [00:24:04.809] quick bit of information about the, [00:24:07.170] the country or the territory, [00:24:10.199] the current unemployment rate, population [00:24:12.420] growth, current population [00:24:15.680] and then scrolling down from there. You'll see, we have top [00:24:17.949] companies by revenue. We can look [00:24:20.140] into any of these to get kind of a better understanding. [00:24:23.410] On the left hand side, we've got our market reports [00:24:25.900] that's going to be a full overview [00:24:28.229] of that country or territory [00:24:31.449] scrolling down further. You'll see, we've got a few [00:24:33.568] different bits of information here. A comparison [00:24:36.368] graph. We already compare some similar [00:24:39.219] countries here, but I can open this tool [00:24:41.578] if I don't see the countries that I like. So maybe [00:24:44.049] I want to compare the United States [00:24:46.279] to [00:24:49.180] specifically Canada and Mexico. [00:24:51.189] Let's keep it in kind of North America. [00:24:53.750] I'll be able to do that. I can open my compare [00:24:56.108] tool and I'll be able to compare them there. [00:24:59.509] And then again, finally, all [00:25:01.618] of the additional information related [00:25:03.848] to this country is going to be listed here. [00:25:06.078] You'll see for this. We have a content [00:25:08.549] bucket or a section for companies [00:25:11.019] within the United States as well as [00:25:13.059] industries within the United States here. [00:25:19.640] And now one final way to find content, [00:25:22.348] I'm going to go back to home again just [00:25:24.439] to have that landing point. [00:25:26.068] Um We can just run a search. [00:25:27.959] So if your patrons know exactly [00:25:30.140] what they're looking for, they don't want to browse through [00:25:32.299] things, they can do that. So I'm actually just [00:25:34.328] going to do a really broad search for apparel. [00:25:38.789] And when I start my search here, you'll see [00:25:40.818] my top suggestions include [00:25:43.318] company profiles, industry profiles [00:25:46.098] as well as country territory profiles. [00:25:49.059] So I can click into any of these suggestions [00:25:51.088] to be forward to these forwarded to these profiles. [00:25:53.400] If I want. If I don't, I can just [00:25:55.500] enter [00:25:59.779] and it is going to pull me to the search results page. [00:26:01.930] So of course, this looks very similar [00:26:04.029] to the bottom of profile pages where [00:26:06.390] we've kind of pulled out our different content [00:26:09.000] types here. So if I want to just take a look [00:26:11.439] at market research reports [00:26:13.779] related to apparel, I can do that. Just [00:26:16.529] news related to apparel. Again, we've got [00:26:18.729] our associations listed here so we can see different [00:26:21.209] apparel associations, different things [00:26:23.430] that Amy wants to take a look at. [00:26:26.559] And also on this page, we've got quite a few really [00:26:28.660] powerful filtering [00:26:30.848] options listed right here. Of course, we've got our [00:26:32.858] little panels that are found in a lot of Gale's [00:26:35.068] resources. So if I want to narrow down [00:26:37.189] based on a specific document type, which [00:26:39.269] is a little bit [00:26:40.789] more specific [00:26:42.930] than our content type. So I can take a look [00:26:44.939] here. If [00:26:47.118] I want to see subjects related to apparel, [00:26:50.108] I have that listed here. [00:26:52.250] I can narrow down by industry here as well. You'll see, [00:26:54.380] it gives me the industry title as well as the industry [00:26:56.689] code. But [00:26:59.088] underneath that, I have these few different options [00:27:01.430] here and you'll see these have little icons [00:27:03.739] and these are related to company profiles [00:27:06.130] themselves. [00:27:07.750] So if we have these three options [00:27:10.709] related to a company, we can actually [00:27:12.848] click into these and only see those companies. [00:27:15.529] So let's click them all. [00:27:19.989] And again, that's going to narrow it down just to companies [00:27:22.059] because that's what those parameters are linked to. [00:27:24.250] So we're getting rid of all of the news reports, [00:27:26.618] all that good stuff. [00:27:28.098] And now you'll see what we have listed on this left hand [00:27:30.259] side and you notice these icons [00:27:32.489] are also found right here. [00:27:35.150] So anytime these icons are visible, [00:27:37.489] that means that company has these different [00:27:39.739] bits of information [00:27:41.180] and I can turn those off here [00:27:48.779] because I want to point out sometimes you'll notice [00:27:51.140] companies don't have anything listed [00:27:53.500] here. So you see this one doesn't have any of these three [00:27:56.170] bits of information. Most likely [00:27:58.279] that means it's either a private company or a [00:28:00.299] company that doesn't publish a whole lot. [00:28:03.239] You'll see. Sometimes they have one or two [00:28:05.469] but not all of them. Like this one here has got [00:28:07.568] one bolded icon showing us [00:28:09.858] that it has that one bit of content [00:28:12.189] as opposed to having all three. [00:28:15.000] So that's a really nice way to narrow that down here. [00:28:18.479] But let's click into just a regular old document. [00:28:20.660] I wanna show you some of the different features and tools [00:28:22.848] we have available for your patrons. So [00:28:25.000] instead of clicking into one of those profile pages, [00:28:27.519] let's just go to a reference [00:28:30.078] bit of content. We'll go into [00:28:32.088] apparel, Knitting Mills here. [00:28:36.680] So once we get into this just general page [00:28:39.118] here, this just general article, [00:28:41.400] there's a lot of different processes [00:28:43.699] and tools that I can use to really get the most [00:28:46.189] out of this resource. So I'll first [00:28:48.269] point out here my explore panel [00:28:50.309] which gives me a more like this option [00:28:52.410] that's going to show me articles that are really similar [00:28:54.809] to this one. [00:28:55.838] And I've also got a related subjects which [00:28:57.920] is going to show me not necessarily [00:29:00.098] the article types that are related, but the subjects [00:29:02.368] that are related. [00:29:04.739] And as I'm starting to click through this resource, [00:29:07.029] if I think this comes in really handy, maybe [00:29:09.118] I wanna save it for later. I have a few different ways [00:29:11.189] to do that. I can send this over to Google [00:29:13.519] or Microsoft drives, either using my [00:29:15.689] two buttons here [00:29:17.209] or using my send to at the very top [00:29:19.309] of the page here, [00:29:21.309] I can also email it to myself or [00:29:23.739] I can download or print it. So if I want to save it on [00:29:25.838] my computer or take a physical [00:29:27.880] copy with me, I can do that here [00:29:29.900] as well. [00:29:31.549] I can also again use my get link button. [00:29:34.328] So just like we had on the home page and just like [00:29:36.338] we had on the different profile pages, [00:29:38.618] I can use this direct URL to pull [00:29:40.739] back this document. [00:29:42.309] You'll notice this is actually a whole lot [00:29:44.368] shorter than what's in the address bar here as well. [00:29:47.969] So that really comes in handy for your patrons. [00:29:53.239] In addition to that, we have some different [00:29:56.088] accessibility [00:29:58.118] features that are going to help you out as well. We have the [00:30:00.219] ability to translate the article. You'll see [00:30:02.328] we have [00:30:03.759] pretty decent size lists of different [00:30:06.519] translations that are available. So your [00:30:08.660] patrons can translate [00:30:10.199] any article. [00:30:12.219] They'll also be able to translate captions on [00:30:14.390] images and things like that to make sure they really [00:30:16.539] understand what's going on in the page. [00:30:18.750] They can also set an interface language [00:30:20.789] which is going to change the language [00:30:22.939] of all of the different tools and navigation [00:30:25.400] buttons. So your patrons will be able to really [00:30:27.699] easily click through the different pages [00:30:30.019] and have that navigation translated [00:30:32.618] for them [00:30:35.098] next door to that. We have our increase [00:30:37.130] and decrease font size option to [00:30:39.189] make sure this is easily readable for your patrons. [00:30:42.299] Next to that, we've got some more advanced [00:30:44.400] display options as well. So after they edit [00:30:46.729] the size of their font, they can also [00:30:48.959] choose a background color for this article, [00:30:52.328] they can choose different font types. [00:30:54.670] You'll see, we do have a dyslexia font available [00:30:57.049] here for your patrons if they prefer that. [00:30:59.500] And we can also change the line letter and word [00:31:01.519] spacing. [00:31:02.739] So we've really built those out so your patrons can [00:31:04.890] get the best view of this information [00:31:07.469] as possible. So whatever they need [00:31:09.519] to feel comfortable reading this, we're trying to [00:31:11.559] provide for them. [00:31:13.559] Let me just go back to my default settings here. [00:31:18.078] We also have a, a listen tool [00:31:20.108] which is going to let your patrons hear this read out [00:31:22.229] to them and it does read out [00:31:24.390] in whatever language they've translated to. So [00:31:26.449] if your patrons translated this to Spanish, [00:31:29.400] but they're still having trouble reading it, maybe, you know, [00:31:31.439] they're just struggling readers, they can have [00:31:33.479] it read to them in Spanish. So again, just that's [00:31:36.229] additional layer of access [00:31:38.368] for them. [00:31:42.348] Then another question, if the patron uses the translate [00:31:44.939] the article, does the get link citation [00:31:46.959] show the translated article or the original [00:31:49.519] English language? [00:31:51.269] I believe it would use the original [00:31:53.328] English language. I don't think [00:31:55.338] a transit option would be saved on a Gatlin. [00:31:58.338] Um I've not tried it. So let's go ahead and do [00:32:00.420] it quickly and we'll see. [00:32:03.039] Let's go ahead and use Spanish here. [00:32:06.500] OK. Let me grab my gut link. [00:32:13.910] Yeah. So it looks like it does translate [00:32:16.680] back into English, which is the standard [00:32:18.699] for the resource. So if they are [00:32:20.848] using the G link, they will still need to use [00:32:22.868] that translate and choose their language there. [00:32:25.608] That's a great question. I've actually never been answered that question [00:32:27.949] before. So thank you for that. [00:32:31.588] Let me go back to my original language here. [00:32:35.650] So those are accessibility features within [00:32:37.949] the the articles themselves [00:32:40.279] to kind of help them get themselves situated. [00:32:42.739] And before we get off today, we've [00:32:44.750] got about five minutes. I do [00:32:46.789] want to show you the comparison charts which is really [00:32:49.039] the final piece of this resource. So [00:32:51.449] I'm just gonna go back to the home page [00:32:55.078] and I'm going to hit my compare button here. [00:33:00.189] Now when I first click into this, [00:33:02.368] it's going to default me to comparing companies [00:33:04.500] here. But on this left hand side, if I want [00:33:06.630] to instead compare industries or countries, [00:33:08.920] I can do that. [00:33:10.140] But let's stick with companies. So I'm going [00:33:12.189] to compare like I mentioned before, I like to compare [00:33:14.259] Microsoft and Apple because they have some [00:33:16.338] pretty good numbers here. [00:33:18.390] So I am actually going to [00:33:20.500] put in [00:33:22.459] the ticker symbols for Microsoft and for [00:33:24.509] apple just because again, it's going [00:33:26.670] to be a lot more specific. So we've got Microsoft [00:33:28.789] here. [00:33:29.608] Let's pull up apple. [00:33:34.880] No, and now I need to select which [00:33:37.039] metric I want to take a look at. So I can take a look [00:33:39.219] at the revenue for these two or the [00:33:41.309] employees will do revenue. [00:33:44.479] And this does let you compare. You'll see here three [00:33:46.949] companies max. So you'll [00:33:49.029] have those three options [00:33:50.549] and then you'll see here. It gives me little dots [00:33:52.769] for each year and I can kind of compare [00:33:54.949] those. You'll see. Apple eventually [00:33:57.189] overtakes Microsoft looks like starting in 2010. [00:34:00.539] And then of course, Apple's trajectory [00:34:02.549] has been a little bit more positive [00:34:05.108] than Microsoft's here. [00:34:08.579] And you'll see, I can also view company profiles [00:34:10.809] down here. So if I want to dig deeper into Apple, [00:34:13.360] I see they're more profitable. So now I want to [00:34:15.418] learn more about them, I can do that here. [00:34:18.289] I can also choose to include this [00:34:20.530] second metric here as well. So if I [00:34:22.750] not only want to see their revenue, but I also want [00:34:24.769] to see how the companies relate to [00:34:26.780] that. I can do that, [00:34:28.369] I can also remove a company. So maybe now I just [00:34:30.539] want to take a look at Microsoft, I [00:34:32.570] can hit my little X button here to remove Apple. [00:34:36.199] And now I'm seeing the trends here. So I'm seeing [00:34:38.228] how their employee numbers [00:34:41.010] compare to their revenue, [00:34:43.469] you'll see they're pretty, pretty directly correlated, [00:34:45.878] which of course makes sense. [00:34:52.239] Now, that's what I have for you within the resource. I have [00:34:54.489] some contact information for you. But [00:34:56.789] before I get to that, are there any questions [00:34:58.869] about the resource? Anything you quickly want to take [00:35:00.889] a look back on that? I may have glossed [00:35:03.070] over a little bit. [00:35:07.889] Ok. I don't see anything. So let [00:35:09.918] me go ahead and jump back here. [00:35:14.019] So I do quickly want to mention our support [00:35:16.188] site, which is support.gale.com. [00:35:18.409] That's where you're going to find a lot of different information [00:35:20.530] to help you best utilize these resources. [00:35:23.250] Um I should mention [00:35:25.289] support.gale.com/novelny [00:35:27.398] You're actually going to find things specific [00:35:29.539] to New York. You'll find your access [00:35:31.840] URL S if you need mark records. If [00:35:33.898] you want some icons for our resources [00:35:36.418] as well as contact information, you'll find all [00:35:38.458] of those on the support site. We also [00:35:40.550] have our training center which is going to include [00:35:42.860] recorded webinars like this one, [00:35:45.519] excuse me, shorter tutorials [00:35:47.639] that are generally around 1 to 2 minutes. [00:35:50.228] Patron support materials, tip [00:35:52.289] sheets and resource guides. And we also [00:35:54.300] have a marketing materials section. So we don't want [00:35:56.449] you to re invent the wheel. So if you want to get this information [00:35:58.860] out, [00:35:59.728] we've got bookmarks and posters ready for [00:36:01.878] you. We have digital assets. So social [00:36:04.260] media posts and email templates available [00:36:06.280] as well, you can really easily download [00:36:08.418] those. And then again, [00:36:10.280] you're not reinventing the wheel, you're not spending your [00:36:12.369] time doing this, you can copy and paste [00:36:14.550] it where it needs to go add your library information [00:36:16.829] and send it out. It's nice and simple. [00:36:22.239] And finally, I do have just a bit of wrap up information. [00:36:24.938] So if you have any questions, your main [00:36:27.070] training content is going to be Stacy Niblo, [00:36:29.659] you'll see. I've included her email here for you. So if you want to talk [00:36:36.510] more specifically about how this resource [00:36:38.530] is going to support your learning community, [00:36:40.869] you can reach out to your customer success manager. If [00:36:42.889] you don't know who that is just yet, you can [00:36:44.909] send an email to gale.customersuccess@cengage.com [00:36:47.418] and you'll be forwarded [00:36:49.469] to the correct individual. [00:36:52.320] And I do have a QR code listed here [00:36:54.570] for a training session survey.
