[00:00:05.429] Welcome in everyone. Today. We're [00:00:07.509] going to be talking about media literacy week [00:00:09.819] and how you could teach with Gale. My name [00:00:12.000] is Amber Winters. I'm glad to have you on the line [00:00:14.220] today. We have a brief agenda. [00:00:16.658] So, first, I wanna talk about media literacy [00:00:18.879] week 2023. What it is, [00:00:21.079] the theme that we've, that's they've [00:00:23.519] chosen to highlight and then we'll start talking about [00:00:25.798] some of the different tools that we've created to help [00:00:27.839] you teach to that theme. [00:00:29.510] And then at the very end of the session, we'll have [00:00:31.539] time again for any questions that I'm not able to [00:00:33.598] answer as we move through the session today. [00:00:36.329] And I've got some wrap up contact information [00:00:38.418] for you as well if you need to dive a little bit deeper [00:00:40.478] into what we've talked about today. [00:00:43.500] So first, let's just talk about media literacy [00:00:45.618] week as a whole. So media literacy week [00:00:47.848] is run every October this [00:00:49.918] year it runs this year is 2023 [00:00:52.219] for anyone watching this recording. This [00:00:54.289] year it runs from October 23rd [00:00:56.590] to October 27th and [00:00:58.770] it's hosted every year by the National association [00:01:01.340] for media literacy education. [00:01:03.840] And this year, they've actually chosen five key [00:01:06.138] topics that they're going to highlight throughout the week. So [00:01:08.250] they've chosen to highlight one topic for [00:01:10.549] every day. So that's what girls decided to do as [00:01:12.668] well. And we've kind of [00:01:14.219] developed our lesson plans that we've created [00:01:16.349] for you based on those five topics. So [00:01:18.609] the first is going to be access. So [00:01:20.790] how and where and how often people [00:01:23.028] access technology [00:01:24.629] and this topic, they're also talking about [00:01:26.638] things like the digital divide, how it's disproportionately [00:01:29.638] affects different demographics and [00:01:32.049] how that can be combated a little bit [00:01:34.338] Tuesday. So the next day [00:01:36.230] is focused on analyzing. So once students [00:01:38.569] find a piece of content, they need to understand [00:01:41.198] who wrote it, the validity of that [00:01:43.308] piece of content, what the context is? [00:01:45.558] Is there a bias related to that content [00:01:47.638] that they can see? Is there an agenda by the author? [00:01:50.599] They're going to start to take a look at that piece [00:01:52.989] of content and really kind of understand where [00:01:55.569] it's coming from and um what [00:01:57.909] it's suggesting [00:02:00.198] then Wednesday, we're taking a look at how they [00:02:02.299] can evaluate that piece of content. [00:02:04.329] So that's really moving forward with critical [00:02:06.459] thinking skills, kind of incorporating those [00:02:08.788] as students kind of [00:02:10.868] build an understanding of the background of [00:02:12.949] this piece of text, they're going to work to draw their [00:02:15.020] own conclusions based on it. So if [00:02:17.169] this is an opinion piece do you agree with the opinion? [00:02:19.625] Do you think that the individual made [00:02:22.085] a solid argument for what they believe if this isn't [00:02:24.133] an opinion piece? Do you think that [00:02:26.194] any of the information is misleading? Do you think that [00:02:28.625] maybe context is missing from that piece [00:02:30.683] of text? So this step on Wednesday [00:02:32.865] is really helping students engage their critical [00:02:35.175] thinking skills [00:02:36.895] and move forward from just, you know, reading [00:02:39.463] a piece of text and just kind of taking it at face [00:02:41.683] value. It's really helping them dig in a little bit deeper [00:02:44.449] then Thursday, which is day four, they're [00:02:46.588] talking more about creation. So now that students [00:02:48.679] understand um how to access [00:02:50.838] content that's been created for them. Now [00:02:53.159] they're going to kind of take a step back and understand [00:02:55.229] how to create content on their own. [00:02:57.379] So, of course, this is going to include [00:02:59.740] the actual process of creating materials. [00:03:02.038] So how blogs work social media, [00:03:04.159] how to upload videos and things like that. [00:03:07.129] But it's also focused on students understanding [00:03:09.469] what happens to that content, how [00:03:11.550] the internet's really permanent. So [00:03:13.710] they need to be aware of the content that they're [00:03:15.849] creating and the content they're putting out there. [00:03:18.020] And this also gives them a second to kind of step [00:03:20.219] back and see if they have any agendas [00:03:22.330] or biases that are impacting their creations as well. [00:03:24.508] Because sometimes it's difficult [00:03:26.679] for students to remember to kind of step back on their own [00:03:28.758] and evaluate their own opinions to see where [00:03:30.788] they may need to adjust their thinking [00:03:33.219] or kind of adjust what they're developing. [00:03:35.610] And finally day five or Friday, [00:03:37.719] which is the culmination of all of these other [00:03:39.960] days, of all of these other great topics. [00:03:42.118] That's the National Association for [00:03:44.399] Media Literacy Education has chosen to pull [00:03:46.588] forward. Day five is going to be a. [00:03:48.758] So we pull all of this together and now students [00:03:51.118] understand um how to access [00:03:53.199] content, how other people are accessing or [00:03:55.258] maybe not accessing content, they [00:03:57.278] know how to analyze and evaluate that content, [00:04:00.210] they know how to create new content. So [00:04:02.250] now they need to pull all of that together [00:04:04.719] to kind of challenge the status quo to [00:04:06.830] empower others to find individuals [00:04:09.028] who are maybe kind of sinking [00:04:11.169] in that digital divide a little bit and help bring [00:04:13.229] them to the technology. They need how [00:04:15.379] to get that kind of information [00:04:17.619] out to others as well as how to fight false [00:04:19.949] information. Because of course, with media literacy, [00:04:22.290] one of the [00:04:23.579] the key topics that we're focused on now [00:04:25.920] really across the US and across the world [00:04:28.410] is the idea of false information [00:04:30.519] being kind of propagated through social media [00:04:32.600] and through other outlets. So [00:04:34.278] this act is really pulling it together [00:04:36.970] to help students understand. Once they find [00:04:39.129] that false information, they should [00:04:41.178] just keep that to themselves. How can they proactively [00:04:43.480] let people know this information is misleading. [00:04:46.069] This information is false. You know, you need to evaluate [00:04:48.639] this to kind of get a deeper understanding. [00:04:51.079] So day five, that Friday [00:04:53.509] they've developed into that act into that [00:04:55.709] moving forward, that actionable item for [00:04:57.829] students. [00:05:01.459] So again, gay has decided to base our [00:05:03.488] activity packets on those five [00:05:05.809] topics that they've chosen to pull forward [00:05:08.369] and I'll click into it live so you can see what they look [00:05:10.389] like, but just quickly. So you know how to [00:05:12.410] get to the information. I've put the [00:05:14.569] the link at the top here. It's a little bit long. So [00:05:16.790] don't worry about typing it all out. [00:05:19.108] But it is support.gale.com forward [00:05:21.399] slash training forward slash themes [00:05:23.528] forward slash media dash 23. [00:05:26.379] I know it's long, an easy way to get that [00:05:28.428] is to just go on our support site, which is support.gale.com [00:05:30.500] And then [00:05:32.528] in the toolbar, we have a full training [00:05:34.559] center developed for you [00:05:36.259] and then you click click content specific [00:05:38.329] materials and you're going to be taken to this full [00:05:40.569] media literacy page. [00:05:43.149] So you see here, we have everything nice and organized for [00:05:45.178] you. So you, we don't need you to click all the way through the support [00:05:47.470] site to kind of find different pieces in different sections. [00:05:50.199] You go to this one page and I want to point [00:05:52.298] out here that we have a tip [00:05:54.329] sheet created for a gal in context for educators. [00:05:56.869] So anyone on the line who has that resource, [00:05:59.048] we've actually built you out a whole folder [00:06:01.088] that you can just kind of steal from us and keep it on [00:06:03.170] your account to use. [00:06:04.970] In addition to that, we've built out three activity [00:06:07.358] packets for students as well. [00:06:09.858] So we have all of this great material found here [00:06:11.939] on this media, media literacy week. And [00:06:14.160] what we've decided to do is we've really [00:06:16.178] digging into the resource, digging in, [00:06:18.269] digged in, [00:06:19.399] we dove into the resource and found [00:06:21.639] different pieces of content that are going to [00:06:23.720] directly relate to those topics and we've built [00:06:25.838] out activities around those. So these [00:06:28.028] are really leveraging the in [00:06:30.108] context resources as opposed to kind of, [00:06:32.160] you know, using in context on the side, [00:06:34.278] these really utilize those [00:06:36.519] and require students to understand how [00:06:38.809] to work through our resources, how to work through our database, [00:06:41.269] build their search terms, their browsing options and things [00:06:43.428] like that. So [00:06:45.559] let's take a quick look here. [00:06:47.750] So I'll first mention we've built a three activity [00:06:49.970] packets, one each for our core [00:06:52.009] in context resources. So Galen [00:06:54.069] context, elementary Galen, context, [00:06:56.108] middle school and Galen context, [00:06:58.160] high school [00:06:59.600] and the first page of each of these packets, first [00:07:01.670] couple pages are going to be [00:07:03.689] basic information for you as educators. [00:07:05.829] So just telling you the grade level [00:07:08.019] and things like that and then our suggested lesson [00:07:10.309] progression [00:07:11.920] and this is going to vary based on your [00:07:14.069] needs. we've tried to make these [00:07:16.379] activities really as flexible as possible. [00:07:18.809] So, if you want to use them as just [00:07:20.879] a bell ringer for a certain day, maybe you can do [00:07:23.009] that. If you want to extend it out to a full [00:07:25.019] hour, you can do that as well. You [00:07:27.059] could even probably extend it out to more than one day [00:07:29.199] if you're so inclined. But, we [00:07:31.338] set the base as activities that can be CRE [00:07:33.509] that can be completed in [00:07:35.559] one day in one class. [00:07:38.019] And then you can kind of decide where to go from that, [00:07:42.160] excuse me. [00:07:43.309] And you can take a look here. So once you get through [00:07:45.329] kind of the instructions for you, you'll start [00:07:47.338] to see the activities all pulled together for each [00:07:49.410] different day. So, for this, I've [00:07:51.459] pulled forward, you'll see we have here, these are actually [00:07:53.910] trading cards that students will complete. So let's [00:07:55.959] take a look at these different topics [00:07:58.119] that are going to be found in whichever resource [00:08:00.428] they're using. So, whatever grade level [00:08:02.709] and they're going to fill out information for those other [00:08:04.949] activities, you'll find things like graphic [00:08:07.028] organizers. So for this, they're trying to determine [00:08:09.629] the difference between a fact and an [00:08:11.699] opinion and kind of figure [00:08:14.379] out as they read through different pieces of content. [00:08:17.108] If it is, in fact a piece [00:08:19.189] focused on someone's opinion or if it is [00:08:21.488] a factual [00:08:22.829] bit of information. [00:08:25.928] Now in addition to those specifically for [00:08:28.059] the in context resources, [00:08:30.048] we've got this great tip sheet for gay only context [00:08:32.538] for educators. So if you do have that [00:08:34.599] resource and you want to get engaged with that, [00:08:37.080] we've got this tip sheet here that's actually got two [00:08:39.139] QR codes attached. This first [00:08:41.500] one has our built out ready to go [00:08:43.599] folder available to you. If you scan it in, [00:08:46.210] it's going to pop up in your instance [00:08:48.229] of gal and context for educators, you'll just sign in [00:08:50.279] and have your own access to that folder. [00:08:52.739] And we also have a link directly just to the media [00:08:54.908] literacy week activities here as well. [00:08:58.700] So just a quick sneak peek here if you do decide [00:09:01.149] to use the Galen context for educators folder, [00:09:03.729] this is what it looks like here. So you'll see we've broken [00:09:05.989] out the activity based on high school, [00:09:08.029] middle school and elementary using our nested [00:09:10.250] folders option within our main [00:09:12.288] folder. And then out underneath, [00:09:14.408] we have the link to that full theme page [00:09:16.649] that I just showed you in the previous slide [00:09:18.678] where you'll see all of the different packets [00:09:21.489] available [00:09:23.080] and all of the different bits of content. [00:09:25.219] We've also included a link to the me media [00:09:27.678] literacy week websites [00:09:30.288] that you can click in to get a little more information [00:09:32.629] about the week and the um the observances [00:09:35.058] and celebrations and materials and support [00:09:37.200] that's available to you there. And we've also [00:09:39.450] included, you'll see on my tags listed here. [00:09:41.830] We've included a few different lesson plans [00:09:44.109] that are found natively within [00:09:46.389] gal and context for educators. So if [00:09:48.619] our lesson packets aren't exactly what you're [00:09:50.729] looking for. [00:09:51.989] If you take a look at gal and context for educators, [00:09:54.099] we've got a few others listed here that might be [00:09:56.129] beneficial for you that you can kind of swap [00:09:58.460] out as needed. [00:09:59.769] We definitely want you to feel [00:10:01.820] free to edit any activities, [00:10:03.849] lessons we give you, of course, you do not need to sit [00:10:05.979] with exactly what we've done. We want you [00:10:08.019] to make it exactly what your students [00:10:10.029] and what you at your learning community need. [00:10:12.830] So let's go ahead and jump in. [00:10:14.960] Oops, we have a quick question here. I [00:10:16.969] started late. [00:10:21.190] So we have a question about how you can access the folder [00:10:23.538] besides the link posted. Um [00:10:25.629] So if you're talking about the gallon context for [00:10:27.678] educators folder, [00:10:29.879] you'll want to go on this tip sheet [00:10:31.710] and scan this QR code or you can [00:10:33.830] hit this here button that's hyperlink the [00:10:36.070] activity. Um If you're talking about [00:10:38.219] just the media literacy page [00:10:40.229] as a whole, um I'm actually gonna [00:10:42.509] jump into that right now so we can take a look [00:10:44.619] at that. [00:10:47.250] I see you were interrupted by a student. I [00:10:49.389] feel that pain. [00:10:51.119] So let's go ahead and jump in. So, [00:10:53.229] again, the material is going to be found [00:10:55.330] on our support site, which is support.gale.com [00:10:57.389] Pretty simple. [00:10:59.808] Um From there, you're going to want to hit [00:11:01.928] the training center option in this [00:11:03.960] toolbar up top here. [00:11:06.599] And then the last option here is content [00:11:08.710] specific materials. [00:11:11.840] So what we do is we actually build content for a lot [00:11:14.070] of different themes or celebrations [00:11:16.308] or observances that are going on throughout the year. [00:11:19.529] You'll see if I scroll down here. We do organize [00:11:21.570] them by month and we have some general themes [00:11:23.918] underneath here as well. So I [00:11:26.000] definitely suggest taking a look if you've not been on [00:11:28.119] this page before, [00:11:30.048] scroll back up here. [00:11:31.729] And we, we decide to feature different [00:11:34.500] themes kind of as they come up. So we [00:11:36.548] have our October themes featured. [00:11:38.719] Now, we did something about banned [00:11:40.889] books week, which was October [00:11:42.899] 1st through the seventh and then you'll see, [00:11:44.918] we have media literacy right here. So [00:11:47.058] it is featured after October. It's [00:11:49.119] going to jump down [00:11:50.820] just to being here on October option. [00:11:53.788] But again, right now it's featured. [00:11:55.960] So he hit media literacy week [00:11:58.178] 2023. [00:12:02.788] Now this is that full theme page. So this is [00:12:04.798] where you're going and find all of this content. [00:12:07.719] And Yep, Lenore, there will be a recording. You'll [00:12:09.859] get a copy of it via email tomorrow. So [00:12:11.940] if those students keep bugging you, you'll [00:12:14.229] get a copy tomorrow, so you'll be able to find everything you [00:12:16.288] need. [00:12:19.678] So this is the main theme page here. So you'll [00:12:21.729] see we've chosen to show you which resources [00:12:23.899] we're highlighting. So those core and context [00:12:26.320] resources all the way from elementary to high school [00:12:29.090] and then Galen context for educators as well. [00:12:31.389] We built on con built out content there. [00:12:34.889] Scrolling down. This tip sheet is going to be [00:12:37.009] that one. If you want to access the gal and context [00:12:39.219] for educators folder, you'll see the QR [00:12:41.330] code and the hyperlink here for that [00:12:47.048] scrolling down here. You'll see we have our [00:12:49.168] upcoming media literacy week 2023 [00:12:51.690] webinar which is actually running right now. [00:12:53.820] Once we're done with this session, this will actually [00:12:55.918] pop over to the recording. So not [00:12:58.058] only will you get a copy of the recording via email, [00:13:00.359] it'll also be posted here on this [00:13:02.399] themes page. So if you want to take a look back here, it'll [00:13:04.428] be listed for you. [00:13:06.950] And then at the very bottom here, this is where those [00:13:09.178] three activity packets are going to be located [00:13:11.460] for you. And we have again broken them up elementary, [00:13:13.840] middle and high school. You can click [00:13:16.058] our little view button here. We'll go to middle [00:13:18.090] school since that's right in the middle of our grade [00:13:20.259] band and [00:13:23.029] it is loaded up here as a PDF. You'll see you'll be [00:13:25.119] able to download this PDF or if you want [00:13:27.279] to print it directly, you can do that here as well. [00:13:30.129] Scrolling down. There are a little bit long, you see this is [00:13:32.178] eight pages, but mostly because we have one page [00:13:34.408] per day. So again, at the [00:13:36.469] beginning is kind of the teacher info. So the [00:13:38.538] basic information for you, how we suggest [00:13:41.269] you move through this [00:13:43.469] this activity. [00:13:44.769] And I will mention if you don't have Galen context [00:13:47.139] middle school, you can certainly use these activities [00:13:49.529] with something else. Um But they have been [00:13:51.710] designed specifically utilizing gal and context [00:13:54.099] middle school content. So they are really [00:13:56.178] specific towards that [00:13:57.690] but feel free to use with whatever you [00:13:59.739] think would work best. [00:14:02.639] So we go through this here, let me scroll down a little [00:14:04.690] bit. You'll notice on some of these here, we [00:14:06.830] suggest using different links. So this one [00:14:08.849] has right here, a link to [00:14:11.178] a specific document found within Galen context, [00:14:13.428] middle school. This one is called fact first opinion. [00:14:16.389] Some of them are also suggesting [00:14:18.619] accessing topic pages. We're going to take [00:14:20.820] a look at topic pages in a second. But [00:14:23.048] basically topic pages are going to pull all [00:14:25.298] of the content related to one topic [00:14:27.369] together to make a really easy kind of a landing [00:14:29.418] point for students. These are great to [00:14:31.580] use as you move through these activities because you [00:14:33.599] won't need to instruct students on [00:14:35.759] how, how to find the exact content that they're looking [00:14:37.918] for. A lot of times it's a nice way to get them started [00:14:39.979] with their research [00:14:42.389] and then scrolling down. This is where you're going to start seeing [00:14:44.570] the different activities here. So for the middle school [00:14:47.048] activity packet, we [00:14:49.349] start off day one just with some trading [00:14:51.599] cards here. So you see this is the front and then [00:14:53.719] the back. They're going to answer a few questions [00:14:55.739] about these different topics. Scrolling [00:14:58.399] down day two, we have, tell me about a document. [00:15:00.639] So this is where they're going to kind [00:15:02.759] of analyze that document. tell us the name, [00:15:05.308] pull out that citation [00:15:07.619] and then give us that basic information. [00:15:09.859] And then underneath, we've got day three, which [00:15:12.090] is moving forward from analyzing to evaluating. [00:15:14.450] So this is where they're going to evaluate, [00:15:16.469] if this document is giving them facts [00:15:18.658] or if it's giving them opinions, [00:15:22.599] we've got to create something next. [00:15:25.099] And then our, at the [00:15:27.178] very end here, we've got our last [00:15:29.649] kind of act section. So for this [00:15:31.849] is actually a scavenger hunt within Galen context, [00:15:34.210] middle school. And this one is using [00:15:36.320] a specific topic page, not completely [00:15:38.330] required, but a lot easier to work through the scavenger [00:15:40.750] hunt with it and they'll just go [00:15:42.769] through and answer these questions. [00:15:45.158] So that's everything in a nutshell. Everything you're going [00:15:47.308] to need is in this one file. again, [00:15:49.788] you can download it to your computer if you prefer [00:15:52.038] or you can print it directly to kind of save [00:15:54.109] it that way, whichever way works best [00:15:56.250] for you, works best for us. So they'll all be found [00:15:58.489] here. Let me jump back [00:16:01.950] and you can access any of them. So if you're working [00:16:04.269] and you want you know, you work, [00:16:06.590] let's say fifth through seventh grade [00:16:08.808] students, we'll say, and you know, your younger level [00:16:11.250] students may need the elementary one. You can [00:16:13.320] download the elementary and you're a higher [00:16:15.408] level. They're going to need the middle school packet. You can [00:16:17.428] download that one as well. You could download all three [00:16:19.479] if you want to. They're all free and [00:16:21.580] ready for you to use and they're going to be on the support [00:16:23.719] site for as long as you need them. [00:16:27.349] Now, any questions at all about how we've organized [00:16:29.658] this, about the activities, [00:16:32.899] anything at all? [00:16:38.590] Ok. Well, I don't see any. So let me go ahead [00:16:40.820] and jump back here [00:16:42.580] to my slides [00:16:44.599] because I want to talk about topic [00:16:46.950] pages. So if you are planning on using these activities, [00:16:50.000] topic pages, I love the idea of [00:16:52.029] letting these guide you [00:16:53.889] because what we've done is we've highlighted some of [00:16:56.048] the key topics [00:16:57.658] that are most studied, most utilized [00:17:00.279] most closely aligned to curriculum [00:17:03.129] related to media, media literacy. [00:17:05.140] And we do have topic pages in all three of [00:17:07.239] these resources. So, Galen [00:17:08.838] conduct elementary, middle school and high school [00:17:11.920] and you see, I've listed a few down here, but [00:17:14.358] we have quite a few different options [00:17:16.438] within Gael and context elementary. You'll find some things [00:17:18.557] that are a little bit more basic, of course, [00:17:20.989] aged for that one through five [00:17:23.337] grade level student, things like computers, [00:17:25.489] video games, social media and the internet. [00:17:29.779] And we have a quick question here. Can you share the URL [00:17:31.868] link to access these resources? Um [00:17:34.368] So [00:17:36.529] anonymous attendee. Yes. Give me [00:17:38.660] a second here. Um Once we end off [00:17:40.868] the day, I'll copy and paste the link into the [00:17:43.199] chat for you. Otherwise you'll [00:17:45.250] get, we'll get it in the email follow up. But I will [00:17:47.390] post that there for you. [00:17:49.019] If you're talking about [00:17:50.559] the actual gale in context [00:17:52.689] resources, those who need to get from [00:17:54.900] your, whoever handles your gale resources [00:17:57.529] or your customer success manager can help [00:17:59.689] you out with that and I'll give you their information at the end of [00:18:01.709] the session as well. [00:18:07.459] So yeah, moving [00:18:09.699] forward from Gael and Context Elementary, you'll see [00:18:11.719] things start to get a little bit more advanced [00:18:14.049] as you move through these resources, which [00:18:16.150] of course we've tried to do based on the [00:18:18.189] age ranges. So as students progress and [00:18:20.259] start to become a little more [00:18:22.348] savvy with their learning and with their reso [00:18:24.618] research, they're going to find more advanced [00:18:26.884] tools and you'll see they almost look [00:18:29.255] identical on this page. Of course [00:18:31.664] gel and Context elementary is a little bit more visual [00:18:33.854] since it's built for our, our young [00:18:36.255] students, our little kids but as [00:18:38.295] they get older, you'll see gel and context, middle [00:18:40.414] school and high school look almost [00:18:42.614] identical. So they're going to find [00:18:44.824] kind of that same feel and look of the topic [00:18:46.943] pages [00:18:47.924] just with higher content level once [00:18:50.005] they get to gal and context high school. [00:18:52.414] So let me show you how this looks just so you kind of see [00:18:54.473] how students [00:18:56.229] might access this information. Once you get them [00:18:58.368] into a resource, I'm just gonna [00:19:00.459] click into Gle and Context high [00:19:02.608] school today. [00:19:04.299] Um But it'll work the same within Galen context, [00:19:06.670] middle school as well, slightly different for [00:19:08.868] gel and context elementary just because again, [00:19:10.930] it's leveled for our elementary kids. [00:19:13.150] But we've got our topic pages listed [00:19:15.170] on the home page here. I'll point out for this month [00:19:17.279] we've actually pulled forward artificial intelligence [00:19:19.750] as one of our highlighted topics. Of [00:19:21.959] course, that works really well for this week. But just [00:19:24.650] learning in general, of course A I has really [00:19:26.910] kind of [00:19:28.049] come to the forefront really of everyone's mind. [00:19:30.059] Everyone's talking about A I, everyone [00:19:32.309] wants to use A I, everyone's slightly [00:19:34.420] afraid of A I. So we've decided to pull [00:19:36.598] that topic page forward up top here. [00:19:38.750] If students want to investigate, [00:19:40.689] we've also got the full list down [00:19:43.209] here as well. So when we're talking about media [00:19:45.348] literacy, for the most part, they're going [00:19:47.390] to find information under science and health [00:19:49.979] and social issues because of course, [00:19:52.199] a lot of media literacy is circling around, [00:19:55.108] you know, cyber bullying fake news, things like [00:19:57.269] that. They'll find that information under social [00:19:59.650] issues. [00:20:01.140] But let's just click into our artificial [00:20:03.189] intelligence topic page here. I'm gonna [00:20:05.279] explore this topic. Oops, [00:20:07.539] I left it sitting for too long. There we go. So I hit, [00:20:09.769] explore this topic and now this is [00:20:11.809] the topic page for artificial intelligence. [00:20:13.890] So if you do decide to start your students on these [00:20:16.118] topic pages [00:20:17.439] at the top of the page, they're going to get an overview [00:20:19.759] of just the background of the the [00:20:21.930] topic. So they kind of get their footing a little bit [00:20:25.160] and then underneath, they're going to get all of this [00:20:27.229] great content that we've pulled forward into different [00:20:29.348] content buckets here. So you'll see. We've got, our reference [00:20:31.739] works are pulled forward, [00:20:33.318] images are pulled separate. We've got great [00:20:35.410] videos, audio files, [00:20:37.449] audio files are a lot of podcasts available [00:20:39.549] to students, our magazine and news. [00:20:41.789] And if I scroll to the bottom, [00:20:44.509] there we go. We also have related topics [00:20:46.920] to help students move forward. So if they maybe [00:20:49.098] want to talk to learn about Google or [00:20:51.118] compare Google and Microsoft, they [00:20:53.130] can do that right here. If they want to take a look at Apple [00:20:55.539] that's listed here as a related topic as well. [00:20:58.549] It's kind of help them move forward [00:21:00.519] and a really nice feature. I want to point out if [00:21:02.588] you do pull these topic pages for students [00:21:04.989] and want to share them. If you use [00:21:07.059] this, get link button up top here in this toolbar. [00:21:10.088] This is gonna provide them with a persistent [00:21:12.219] URL. So this isn't gonna break. [00:21:14.489] And then you'll notice it's a lot shorter than what's [00:21:16.559] found in the search bar as well. [00:21:18.699] But you can share this out with students. You can put [00:21:20.709] it in a syllabus, you can share in an email, you [00:21:22.769] can put it in your discussion board post. And [00:21:25.000] soon as we're able to click in here and we launched right [00:21:27.068] to this topic page and then can start [00:21:29.348] kind of researching on their own. So if [00:21:31.410] you do want kind of that targeted learning, [00:21:33.828] maybe you're not ready to have them flow all [00:21:36.078] the way through the resource. You're a little bit afraid they might get [00:21:38.108] a bit overwhelmed. [00:21:40.269] This link will get them right [00:21:42.328] here in a more [00:21:43.729] controlled area. [00:21:47.259] We have another question here about the costs and fees. [00:21:49.729] Um So if you're talking about costs of the [00:21:51.779] resources, um I can give [00:21:53.828] you out your information for your um [00:21:56.949] your sales consultant and they can work with you [00:21:58.959] and work with your learning community. So I'll have [00:22:01.078] that at the end of the session for you. [00:22:03.459] If you're talking about the media literacy, support [00:22:05.630] materials on the support site, those are completely [00:22:07.660] free and open for you to use as needed. [00:22:10.358] Um [00:22:11.500] So again, hold to the very end of the session, [00:22:13.729] I'll give you the information for your sales [00:22:16.029] consultants. [00:22:17.130] and then you'll be able to reach out to them to kind of get [00:22:19.199] a better understanding of costs and things like that. [00:22:26.189] And then we have another question. Um One of our content [00:22:28.608] buckets is listed as featured [00:22:30.838] contents [00:22:32.578] found here. [00:22:34.000] So we have a question, what determines that it's featured [00:22:36.358] content. So that's actually our content development [00:22:38.479] team. So generally it's going to depend on what's [00:22:40.500] going on. Um If something big happens in the [00:22:42.588] world of A I, then they may choose to [00:22:44.640] pull that forward as a featured bit of content. [00:22:46.799] So students can find it more easily. [00:22:48.689] Generally, featured contents are [00:22:50.880] going to fall into the reference bucket. [00:22:52.939] Sometimes. Um you'll see these, we have [00:22:54.949] a couple audio files, so sometimes they may [00:22:56.989] be multimedia content, [00:22:59.348] but it's just pieces of content that are [00:23:01.390] normally found within these other buckets that are [00:23:03.479] still there, but that we've chosen to pull forward [00:23:06.150] because, you know, something new happened [00:23:08.239] related to that specific topic or [00:23:10.559] it's, you know, something that's been really [00:23:12.660] prominent in the media recently. So it's [00:23:14.838] decided by our product [00:23:16.890] and our content teams. [00:23:23.910] OK. And before we get off, I do [00:23:25.979] want to mention that your students can also search [00:23:28.160] for topic pages. So I'm going [00:23:30.318] to start a search here, let's say [00:23:32.410] for cybersecurity, just so you can kind of see how [00:23:34.578] this functions. if they are searching [00:23:36.900] for something, you'll see, we have two B [00:23:39.368] options at the top of my predictive text [00:23:41.420] here. Anytime they see this bolded option, [00:23:43.779] those are topic pages that we've already created. [00:23:46.009] So if they're planning on searching for cybersecurity, [00:23:49.000] instead of kind of pulling just your standard [00:23:51.250] search results page, they can click on this [00:23:53.469] bolded option. [00:23:56.739] And now there we go, they're pulled directly to [00:23:58.789] this topic page here. [00:24:01.769] So another quick way to access those topic pages [00:24:04.279] without having to kind of search through a whole lot [00:24:06.358] of content. If they run a search, they see that [00:24:08.500] bolded text, click on it, they'll be taken [00:24:10.568] to the page and then you'll see it's laid out just [00:24:12.699] like the other one. Our related topics at the bottom [00:24:15.229] are content buckets in between [00:24:18.160] and then our overview at the very top [00:24:20.199] here. Now, [00:24:24.588] I'm going to go ahead and jump back to my sides once [00:24:26.930] more here [00:24:28.799] because that's what I have for you guys today. [00:24:31.809] And again, I'll put the information in a follow [00:24:34.068] up email for you, excuse me, [00:24:36.799] um, [00:24:38.108] with a link to that support content [00:24:40.279] on the support site. And you know, we had a question [00:24:42.539] about cost and access to the resources. [00:24:45.309] Um You were an anonymous attendee. [00:24:47.809] So I can't give you specific information. [00:24:50.118] But um to get that information, reach [00:24:52.318] out to your sales consultant. If you don't know who that [00:24:54.368] is, you can, you can go [00:24:56.380] to support.gale.com/repfinder [00:24:58.559] You'll put in your learning community's [00:25:00.680] information, you'll be forwarded to the correct [00:25:02.880] individual. Or if you like, you can email [00:25:04.969] me directly after the session. I [00:25:06.989] can give you the exact information you [00:25:09.108] get a follow up email from me. So I'll be able [00:25:11.219] to excuse me, quickly respond [00:25:13.318] back to you as well. [00:25:14.779] You will also have access to your customer [00:25:16.838] success manager. So if you want to talk about [00:25:18.949] this a little more specifically [00:25:21.368] related to your learn learning community, feel [00:25:23.380] free to reach out to them. If you don't know who that is. [00:25:25.729] gale.customersuccess@cengage.com [00:25:27.890] you'll get that correct information there. [00:25:30.358] Again, our support site is [00:25:32.430] support.gale.com [00:25:34.410] and I do have a training session survey. So if you [00:25:36.479] have the time to take that, I would love to hear your thoughts [00:25:38.779] on the session today. If there's something [00:25:40.979] that wasn't covered, that you would have preferred to be covered [00:25:43.259] if you had to have feedback about the materials [00:25:45.809] we've made, We'd love to hear that this QR [00:25:48.078] code is active if you wanna scan it. [00:25:50.059] So I'll go ahead and end the session for today. Then [00:25:52.140] I appreciate you all for being here again and [00:25:54.358] hopefully we'll see you in future gale trainings.
