[00:00:05.650] Ok, thank you all again for joining [00:00:08.358] today, we're going to be master in gale admin. [00:00:10.579] My name is Amber Winters and I'm your gale training [00:00:12.750] consultant for the day. [00:00:14.810] So we on the first we're just going to talk about [00:00:16.870] how you can get access to gale [00:00:19.000] admin because of course that's always gonna be our first step. [00:00:21.079] So we'll talk about where you can find it. We'll talk [00:00:23.297] about how you can actually get in, where you can find [00:00:25.350] your credentials, all that good stuff. [00:00:27.489] We'll quickly talk about some of the different features [00:00:29.658] you're going to find within gale admin. So what you're [00:00:31.719] actually going to be able to do, how you're going to [00:00:33.750] be able to manipulate how you access [00:00:36.000] your resources. your account, all that good stuff [00:00:38.639] and then we'll spend a good amount of time actually walking [00:00:40.750] through gall admin. So you're gonna feel of [00:00:43.189] where, where the all where all of [00:00:45.279] the different tools and features are. Excuse [00:00:47.529] me, I'm a little tongue tied today. so [00:00:49.548] we'll walk you back and then at the very end of the session, [00:00:51.709] I do have some wrap up information for you [00:00:54.090] some contact information if you want to maybe take [00:00:56.319] a deeper dive into things we didn't explore today. [00:00:59.039] And again, if the questions start to get [00:01:01.179] a little bit burdensome if we get a lot [00:01:03.298] coming in, then the questions may just wait [00:01:05.307] until the end of the session but feel free to pop [00:01:07.337] them into the Q and A. And if I'm able [00:01:09.349] to I'll answer them as we move along today. [00:01:12.379] So first accessing G admin, [00:01:14.569] so there's two main ways you can get access [00:01:16.638] so if anyone online is familiar with [00:01:18.718] the support site. [00:01:20.150] Instead of remembering a whole another site, you can [00:01:22.209] actually access the Gale admin site [00:01:24.269] right from that support site. So if you go [00:01:26.400] to support dot G dot com, [00:01:28.250] you hover over tools in our little tool [00:01:30.599] bar up top here, you'll see gale admin [00:01:32.688] is an option right there. So this is the first [00:01:34.859] way you can access if you are familiar with using losing [00:01:37.180] the support site. we don't want you to have to remember [00:01:39.459] a second website so you can do it there. [00:01:41.527] If you just want to go directly to gale [00:01:43.807] ain, you can just go to admin dot gale dot com. [00:01:47.009] And then forward right there directly. [00:01:50.829] If you don't have your credentials yet, that's completely [00:01:53.307] fine. Stay on the line with us, we're still gonna show you [00:01:55.348] how to use everything. But if you need [00:01:57.448] access to those, you can reach out to our tech support [00:01:59.609] and they can provide you with that information. All [00:02:01.808] of this will be in your follow up email. So if [00:02:03.819] you do need to act to reach out to them, you'll [00:02:05.888] be able to but it's just 1 808 [00:02:08.258] 774253, [00:02:10.288] option four. Sometimes. It's just a little bit [00:02:12.408] easier to send an email just to gale do technical [00:02:14.848] support at dot com. Either [00:02:17.158] way they'll be able to get you those credentials so you [00:02:19.179] can log in. They are different than the passwords [00:02:21.610] to get into your resources because [00:02:23.617] they're admin credentials so they give you kind of a different [00:02:25.628] level of access so you will need those [00:02:28.087] as opposed to just your standard resource [00:02:31.270] password. [00:02:34.210] So let's talk about some of the features here, what [00:02:36.250] gil admin is actually going to help you do. So first [00:02:38.718] you're gonna be able to manage your authentication methods. [00:02:41.050] So if you want to change passwords, maybe you [00:02:43.079] need to add a password. You can do that here. [00:02:45.750] You can also include your Ip s. So if [00:02:47.819] you want to have Ip authentication for your [00:02:49.949] school district or your library wherever you are, [00:02:52.490] you can enter in all of the Ip addresses [00:02:54.728] that are going to be related to your institution [00:02:56.788] and you'll have automatic authentication that [00:02:58.800] way. We can also enter in things like [00:03:00.830] referring URL s [00:03:02.639] in addition to those authentication methods, [00:03:04.729] especially if we're talking about schools that having [00:03:06.908] a K 12 folks on the line. You [00:03:08.978] can work on your L MS integration [00:03:11.610] right here on Gale admin. So you'll be able to get [00:03:13.750] your key in secret. So if you're using [00:03:16.699] canvas something like that, you'll [00:03:18.908] be able to pull that right here from Gale admin and we'll take a look [00:03:21.139] at that. You also have the ability [00:03:23.408] to authenticate using either google or Microsoft [00:03:25.960] account. So that's a great way again [00:03:28.000] if you're at a K. 12 school and [00:03:30.008] everyone is assigned an account. be it's [00:03:32.027] google or Microsoft you can actually have them [00:03:34.128] sign in that way. So by passing your [00:03:36.149] password you don't have to worry about handing [00:03:38.449] out a password to all of your students or all of your users. [00:03:40.990] They can really simply just sign and use [00:03:43.008] thing google or Microsoft [00:03:46.117] You can also enter some preferences and we have [00:03:48.240] some general preferences preferences that are going [00:03:50.348] to span the entirety of your gale collection. [00:03:52.978] And we also have some product specific specific [00:03:55.300] preferences. So if we're talking about [00:03:57.617] the in context suites, they have their own [00:03:59.699] preferences that you can narrow down to or [00:04:01.777] Gale ebooks, you'll also find separate preferences. [00:04:04.438] So we'll take a look at all of those today. So [00:04:06.508] you can kind of get a feel about what you're going to be seeing [00:04:08.830] what you can do. [00:04:10.580] and you can also view usage on Gale admin. [00:04:13.228] So gil admin, it's really beneficial [00:04:15.300] if you're looking for a counter four or counter five reports. [00:04:18.160] It's also helpful if you want to schedule a report [00:04:20.709] to be sent to you. So if you're looking for a report [00:04:23.048] on on a monthly, quarterly, however [00:04:25.509] long you can schedule that within gale admin [00:04:28.259] and I will just note here this is not the same [00:04:30.509] as usage dashboard. A lot of people [00:04:32.769] are using usage, dash [00:04:34.064] for now, which is just a little bit different. [00:04:36.165] It's a little more readily [00:04:38.204] available. You have some visuals there as well [00:04:40.213] but if you want counter four or five you're [00:04:42.345] going to want to use it to [00:04:44.524] use usage on gale admin. [00:04:46.784] So we will have that, we'll take a look at that today as [00:04:48.824] well Now [00:04:51.439] I just want to go ahead and dive right in. I [00:04:53.528] haven't seen any questions pop up but as I'm [00:04:55.659] switching over screens here, [00:04:58.040] do we have any questions? [00:05:02.689] Ok? I don't see these. So for the [00:05:04.790] sake of time I already signed in here. So when [00:05:06.879] you sign in using your admin credentials, this is [00:05:08.987] the page you're going to be pulled to and yours [00:05:11.160] might look a little bit different. You'll see right [00:05:13.189] here. I just have one account that I [00:05:15.220] can click into one location. If [00:05:17.500] you are the admin for an entire school district [00:05:20.019] or maybe a full public library system, [00:05:22.790] you may see more than one location [00:05:24.809] listed here and that's completely fine. [00:05:27.009] You'll be able to go in and edit each of those [00:05:29.230] locations individually right here on this [00:05:31.319] page, [00:05:32.869] on this left hand side, you'll see I have this little [00:05:35.028] user administration button here as well. [00:05:37.470] So you can add a user. So maybe you have [00:05:39.819] a a new librarian working with you or maybe you have [00:05:41.949] a tech person you want to be involved on [00:05:44.199] the admin side of scale, you can actually add [00:05:46.230] that here for yourself. So you'll be able to put in [00:05:48.548] our user name and password. All that good stuff. [00:05:53.709] but I'm not gonna do that today, I'm going to stick with myself [00:05:55.889] so again I have my one location so I'm [00:05:57.980] going to select a view at it to change [00:06:00.298] what's going on with this specific location [00:06:02.309] here Maybe? [00:06:15.579] Ok, give me one second here. It looks like I might be [00:06:17.649] signed in incorrectly. [00:06:19.548] So I'm gonna go ahead and start [00:06:25.449] Excuse me for that. [00:06:29.579] There we go. [00:06:30.838] Had myself signed in a little bit differently. [00:06:32.899] So in your standard sign in, when you hit [00:06:35.058] you edit, this is what you're going to see, is [00:06:37.220] this first location summary [00:06:39.540] here. So you have your location name, [00:06:41.619] which you can change. It's automatically going to populate [00:06:43.939] to whatever is attached to your account. [00:06:46.045] So usually it's going to be your school's name, [00:06:48.064] your district's name, your public library name. [00:06:50.605] but you can change it. So if you want it to be maybe a little [00:06:52.824] bit more specific or you just want to change [00:06:55.024] the organization of it or something like that. [00:06:57.403] You can do that here and mine just has my name because [00:06:59.564] it's my personal account, it's not a library's [00:07:01.894] account, You'll also see your [00:07:03.959] location ID here. So sometimes you'll [00:07:06.220] hear that when you're speaking with gale individuals, [00:07:08.540] maybe if you're building out a gale page [00:07:10.798] or something like that. If you're trying to get direct URL [00:07:12.819] s, you may hear the term location ID, [00:07:15.100] you'll find that here within your gale admin. [00:07:19.449] scrolling down underneath, you'll have a customer [00:07:21.869] class and that's going to be filled out for you. So [00:07:23.879] K 12 Public Academic Mind [00:07:26.399] enter company because I'm in the company. [00:07:29.079] but you'll have that created here for you [00:07:31.970] scrolling down, you can add in your [00:07:34.129] contact information for gale here. [00:07:36.427] You'll see you do you are required [00:07:38.569] to have your city state [00:07:40.608] all that good stuff, you can have that listed there, [00:07:42.858] but you can enter in more if you want to keep it here [00:07:45.869] And at the very bottom of this page you [00:07:47.949] have this button to access your products. [00:07:50.449] So this button is actually going to pull you to your [00:07:52.619] full product menu here. It will take [00:07:55.100] just a second to load because I have a lot of products on [00:07:57.108] my account. [00:07:59.009] And when you sign into this using just your standard [00:08:01.869] resource sign [00:08:03.987] in, you'd be taken to this page. So this [00:08:06.119] is really handy if you want to take a look at all of your [00:08:08.220] resources.or maybe you want to [00:08:10.309] forward this to users so they can see all of your [00:08:12.379] resources as opposed to having [00:08:15.269] your standard direct links posted, you [00:08:17.309] do have access to the scale product menu here, [00:08:20.250] you'll see you have everything posted and this is going [00:08:22.399] to be different based on what you have access to. [00:08:24.677] So you might not see all of these, you may see, [00:08:26.829] you know two or three, whatever you have access [00:08:29.088] to. That's all you're going to see here. [00:08:31.850] And on this product menu, I also pointed out, we [00:08:33.960] include our cross searches here. So if [00:08:36.000] you want to direct your users to our cross searches [00:08:38.399] again, it varies what you'll see based on the resources [00:08:40.889] you have, but that's on this product menu [00:08:42.908] here as well. [00:08:45.288] so let's jump back to Gale admin here. [00:08:47.820] So again, you'll always have that at the very bottom of [00:08:49.840] the page that's access your products. [00:08:56.219] now sticking with this toolbar I'm kind of just gonna [00:08:58.307] work from top to bottom here today. [00:09:00.399] Our next option is this edit database [00:09:02.599] subscription. So this is really just going to [00:09:04.750] allow you to see what you currently are subscribed [00:09:07.359] to, what you've subscribed to [00:09:09.379] in the past. You don't see a start [00:09:11.519] end date for me because it might set up a little bit [00:09:13.557] differently, but you will see your start and end dates [00:09:15.750] here, so you'll see all of the resources you have. [00:09:20.690] and you'll have some additional information here that I don't have [00:09:22.989] but you can take a look and just see that as [00:09:25.149] needed. Again this is just a a visual view. [00:09:27.229] You won't be able to renew or anything else [00:09:29.408] like that. I'm Gale admin, this is [00:09:31.460] just letting you see those if you do need to renew a resource [00:09:34.408] or if you want to maybe learn a bit about [00:09:36.639] a new resource that you notice you don't have listed [00:09:38.889] in your current database subscriptions. I [00:09:40.950] have some contact information for you at the very [00:09:43.057] end of this session to some individuals [00:09:45.288] who can help you out with that. [00:09:48.028] But moving down from this database subscriptions [00:09:50.330] page, you'll have your location authentication. [00:09:52.849] This is a really powerful section and [00:09:54.969] for a lot of people this is where they spend the majority [00:09:57.070] of their time with gale admin is making [00:09:59.349] sure they give their users the best [00:10:01.619] experience as possible when they're signing [00:10:03.869] into the resource. Of course we want to try to [00:10:06.168] eliminate as many barriers to access [00:10:08.200] as possible while still making sure [00:10:10.359] that only your users are in fact getting into [00:10:12.609] the resource. So the first option [00:10:14.729] is our addition of Ip addresses [00:10:18.278] click in here, you can add in as many [00:10:20.460] as you like. You'll see, I can start to add rows here, [00:10:24.099] and you can put in your, your Ip addresses. [00:10:26.479] So this again is pretty beneficial for [00:10:28.619] the K 12 [00:10:30.278] arena where you have your set list [00:10:32.349] of Ip addresses that are kind of designated [00:10:34.557] for your school or for your district, you [00:10:36.649] can pop those in there and when your students click [00:10:38.830] into different resources now, they're not going to be [00:10:40.918] asked for a password, We're going to recognize [00:10:43.298] their Ip address and we're going to auto [00:10:45.389] authenticate them. [00:10:46.859] This is a really beneficial way to do that. [00:10:49.080] Of course, if your students are using [00:10:51.099] a computer at home or if you're a public library [00:10:53.278] and they're using their personal computers at home, [00:10:55.677] we won't be [00:10:57.009] able to recognize their Ip address because [00:10:59.177] it's not been entered by you. So at that [00:11:01.278] point they'll be asked to [00:11:03.788] enter a password or however or [00:11:05.869] else you have authentication set up [00:11:08.960] So here underneath the Ip addresses, this [00:11:11.028] is where you'll find your passwords, I'm not going to click [00:11:13.048] in because my passwords in there. but [00:11:15.219] you can add in multiple passwords if you like. You [00:11:17.229] can also set expiration dates and passwords, [00:11:20.038] so maybe you'll want your [00:11:22.307] your students to have access for a specific amount [00:11:24.375] of time and then you want to cut it off for a bit maybe [00:11:26.715] to make edits or whatever it may be. Maybe [00:11:29.153] you change your password yearly just to make sure [00:11:31.354] that's no one from the outside is getting [00:11:33.543] in. You can set it. So your passwords [00:11:35.565] will will expire after one year and you'll [00:11:37.594] be able to enter in a new one. You can do that here [00:11:40.859] So so you've got a few other options here as well. I'm not [00:11:42.879] going to go into what each of these authentication [00:11:45.149] options are if they look familiar [00:11:47.158] to you and you know you want to set them up with Gale [00:11:49.538] your customer success manager can help you out with [00:11:51.557] that. You'll have their contact information [00:11:53.639] at the very end of the session but if [00:11:55.658] you're looking for something like that you'll find that under [00:11:57.820] our location authentication [00:12:00.658] I'm gonna click here into 3rd party though. [00:12:03.619] So this is where you're going to include your [00:12:05.710] google authentication or your Microsoft authentication, [00:12:08.849] What's great is you're just going to put in a domain [00:12:10.869] name. So as an example as a send gauge [00:12:12.979] employee, my domain is sunu [00:12:15.070] dot com. So it's just the very end of [00:12:17.119] your email. So my email is amber dot winters [00:12:19.538] at sun gauge dot com. So after that [00:12:21.639] a sign that's going to be your domain. Again, [00:12:23.969] this is great for schools or maybe the academic [00:12:26.700] arena where you have designated [00:12:28.950] domains, you have designated emails you sent sent [00:12:31.379] out to your users, you can make it. So [00:12:33.408] any user who signed in on the platform. [00:12:36.479] on the the browse window here with [00:12:38.940] a Microsoft or a google account that [00:12:41.009] has that domain, they'll automatically [00:12:43.099] authenticate. So again they won't need a password, [00:12:45.307] they'll be able to sign in with either google or Microsoft [00:12:48.200] and be ready to go. So again, it's a nice way to [00:12:50.210] skip that required password. [00:12:52.739] It's a nice way to make sure that they're not getting frustrated [00:12:54.979] when they don't remember their password and can't get in. [00:12:58.119] underneath that here. You'll see we have a few other [00:13:00.219] options. So if you're using something like class link [00:13:02.269] or clever you can pull that right here [00:13:04.778] underneath that. You'll see I have my L. T. [00:13:06.960] I. Authentication here. So again this is going [00:13:09.229] to be your learning management systems [00:13:12.229] so school G canvas are the big [00:13:14.440] ones I always kind of think of but also things [00:13:16.500] like blackboard you'll be able to pull [00:13:18.609] your consumer key so you'll see that it automatically [00:13:21.028] populates here for me, my consumer key [00:13:23.288] and then I can generate my secret. Again, [00:13:25.500] if you're not familiar with how integrating into an [00:13:27.548] L MS works and you're not quite sure what [00:13:29.619] a secret is. Your customer success [00:13:31.668] manager can help you out with that and I'll give you their information [00:13:33.879] at the end. [00:13:34.859] But for my tech individuals who are [00:13:36.950] on the line or those of you who are going to be working with [00:13:38.960] tech individuals for the most [00:13:41.038] part, they're going to know that you're gonna need a secret. [00:13:43.849] And you can generate that all on your own right here [00:13:45.889] on this 3rd Party location [00:13:48.090] authentication here. [00:13:51.019] and I will pause just for a quick second. [00:13:53.038] Are there any questions? I haven't seen any pop up [00:13:55.210] but are there any questions about editing your [00:13:57.239] location details or about some of our different [00:13:59.710] location authentication options? [00:14:05.489] Ok? [00:14:06.609] I don't see any. So we'll go ahead and keep rolling then. [00:14:08.750] So moving down underneath our location [00:14:11.190] authentication, we have our preferences [00:14:13.570] section here [00:14:14.979] and as I mentioned previously, we have both [00:14:17.048] general preferences that are going to span [00:14:19.109] your whole gale collection or [00:14:21.349] we have some product specific preferences. [00:14:23.528] So let's start off with general here. [00:14:28.278] So scrolling down a lot of it, there's these are just going [00:14:30.427] to default to an and you may not even know you can [00:14:32.479] turn them off. but the first [00:14:34.668] one is going to be your translation, so it's always [00:14:36.960] going to default to. Yes, you have [00:14:39.119] the ability to translate your [00:14:41.250] resource because generally people do [00:14:43.658] see that as an important feature. [00:14:45.759] So it is going to give the option to your users. [00:14:47.979] You can turn that off if you don't want that option provided. [00:14:50.807] but again it does default. Yes. [00:14:53.750] You can also decide what you want, your default [00:14:56.210] user interface language to be. So [00:14:58.450] it does default to english if you'd prefer to [00:15:00.500] have it in spanish, let's say. You can certainly [00:15:02.599] do that and that is just the platform [00:15:05.168] so that's all of the tools, the navigation, [00:15:07.690] all the good stuff. The articles themselves, [00:15:09.875] will still be in whatever language language [00:15:12.052] they were published in so many of the times english. [00:15:14.634] and your users will be able to translate those individually. [00:15:17.173] But selecting your default interface language [00:15:19.504] here is just going to make the navigation [00:15:22.254] whatever language you choose. I'm going to [00:15:24.335] keep mine as english here [00:15:28.000] scrolling down here. You see there are a few other options. [00:15:30.298] I'm not going to go through all of them, but you'll see you [00:15:32.320] have information if you want to enable [00:15:34.500] google scholar, all that good stuff. Your language [00:15:36.840] for google google scholar, [00:15:39.599] you'll be able to do that here. You can also [00:15:41.840] choose a default start page. Now, [00:15:43.859] I think this is pretty handy, so [00:15:45.879] we always defaulting your start page [00:15:47.969] as the home. So when your users sign in or when [00:15:50.134] they authenticate with their IP or their newly [00:15:52.325] entered google accounts, [00:15:54.153] they're always brought to the home page just as a [00:15:56.163] default. If you would prefer, they go [00:15:58.234] somewhere else. Maybe you want them to go to a [00:16:00.244] subject guide. Maybe you think that all [00:16:02.344] of your users should be funneled into the advanced [00:16:04.394] search first, because you just think that's the best [00:16:06.504] option for your, your um, audience, [00:16:09.278] You can do that here. We generally recommend [00:16:11.719] sticking to the home page at first, especially [00:16:14.080] for things like in context resources, [00:16:16.389] just because there's a lot of tools right there on [00:16:18.418] the home page that can be really handy for your users, [00:16:20.908] but if you think they prefer something else, you have [00:16:22.950] the ability to change that right here [00:16:25.019] under our general preferences. [00:16:28.399] I keep my full text limited on [00:16:30.557] by default. So you can turn that off. [00:16:32.580] The majority of our resources [00:16:34.859] have [00:16:36.649] mostly full text but there are citations [00:16:39.200] and other things. So if you'd prefer to turn that off, you [00:16:41.269] can do that here. [00:16:43.950] you'll see we have citation style. If you're using [00:16:46.028] a proxy, you can enter that information [00:16:48.288] here and [00:16:50.590] then down under here listed on login page [00:16:52.729] options. So when you your user [00:16:55.009] kind of falls right on the log in page [00:16:57.038] where they're going to be asked to either to [00:16:59.307] sign in with google or Microsoft or maybe they're going to be [00:17:01.369] putting in a password, you can include your [00:17:03.479] library information right on that page. So if [00:17:05.630] they don't know the password, you [00:17:07.788] can have them reached out to you right there. You'll see you can [00:17:09.890] put in your web page, your phone number [00:17:12.269] and your email as well to kind of help [00:17:14.410] direct them to the right spot here [00:17:16.778] and again, that's going directly on the [00:17:18.847] log in page. [00:17:23.596] Now, underneath those general preferences preference [00:17:25.958] here, you'll see I have my product specific [00:17:28.137] preferences [00:17:29.749] and now yours is going to look different based on what resources [00:17:32.166] you have available. This is my drop down. [00:17:34.259] So I have all of these resources, I'll be [00:17:36.336] able to change again, yours will most [00:17:38.438] likely be different here. [00:17:45.038] And it looks like we have a question for the default [00:17:47.097] start page. I don't have a dropdown menu [00:17:50.327] So Catherine, if you don't see a drop down menu, [00:17:52.390] then that would be because whatever resources you [00:17:54.449] have access to don't have [00:17:56.680] that capability. So I'm not quite [00:17:58.699] sure what your resource collection is, but [00:18:00.949] whatever it is, if you don't see an option [00:18:03.430] that I'm going through today, that just means it's not applicable [00:18:05.729] to what you have. So if anyone sees [00:18:07.939] something they can't do on this [00:18:10.028] on this webinar, it's just because [00:18:12.048] whatever that feature is, it doesn't it's [00:18:14.219] not applicable for whatever your resource collection [00:18:16.308] is. and Catherine [00:18:18.519] if you do want to discuss that further to see [00:18:20.577] what resource doesn't allow whatever you're [00:18:22.640] trying to click into. your customer success [00:18:24.900] manager again is a great person to reach out to [00:18:26.910] and they can work with you a little bit more [00:18:29.097] closely with your actual resource set. [00:18:31.130] So we'll have that information at the end of this session [00:18:33.337] for you. [00:18:37.357] so let's go ahead and click in. I'm going to click into [00:18:39.528] my in context suite first. I'll click into a couple [00:18:41.788] of these but our in context [00:18:44.130] products are are really popular [00:18:46.390] so I'm assuming a lot of you on the line most likely have [00:18:48.548] at least one in context product. So this [00:18:50.769] could certainly come in handy for you. So scrolling down [00:18:52.939] here, you can choose to select your market [00:18:55.459] and when you choose a market it's emphasize [00:18:58.199] emphasizes different pieces of content [00:19:00.979] when you click into the race source. So I have mindset [00:19:03.479] to K 12. [00:19:04.719] and what that means is you'll see, I have the option to show [00:19:06.788] me here. K 12. It's going to [00:19:08.837] emphasize the featured content that [00:19:10.930] we pulled forward. News and magazines [00:19:13.019] reference and primary sources. While [00:19:15.117] if I had selected academic, [00:19:17.239] it's going to first show academic journals [00:19:19.558] and primary sources and things like that. And [00:19:21.837] then you'll see we have public listed here as well where [00:19:23.880] it's going to highlight more featured content [00:19:26.077] and the news and magazines, general [00:19:28.288] reference, all that good stuff. So [00:19:30.367] You don't technically have to edit this but [00:19:32.719] sometimes it is nice to have this changed [00:19:34.920] a little bit. So you can make sure your [00:19:36.969] users are getting to the exact information they need [00:19:39.150] if you know, your user base really [00:19:41.259] needs to take a look at those academic journals first [00:19:43.509] and foremost. You may want to change out [00:19:45.689] here to this academic version so they [00:19:47.750] can take a look at that. They'll be kind of directed to [00:19:49.798] that first on our topic pages. [00:19:53.959] underneath that. You can change if you're displaying content [00:19:56.500] or lexa level. So again, this is pretty [00:19:58.939] K 12 focused. But [00:20:01.107] if you are a public library or an academic [00:20:03.288] library using these resources and you think maybe [00:20:05.439] this is not the most beneficial for my users, [00:20:07.920] you know, why, why muddy the water? They're not [00:20:10.048] going to quite understand what a lexa reading [00:20:12.327] a lexile [00:20:13.380] level is. You can turn those off [00:20:15.719] right here. [00:20:18.400] You can also select the topic [00:20:20.880] pick list. Again, this is giving you the [00:20:22.920] descriptions of what all of those are [00:20:25.587] So you can change that here, [00:20:27.180] you can choose just a full text limit [00:20:29.410] in in context only you saw that as a general [00:20:31.489] preference, you could also get more specific. [00:20:33.769] So if you just want it for in context, [00:20:35.867] you can certainly do that. [00:20:37.410] And curriculum standards, [00:20:39.989] you could choose to have the honor off in curricular standards [00:20:42.278] are just a button that appears [00:20:44.317] on the home page. So if again, [00:20:46.357] if you're not a K 12 institution, [00:20:48.837] you might not want to see that at all, it might not be [00:20:50.969] distracting. You don't need to worry about it, but if it is a little [00:20:53.130] distracting, you can turn that off [00:20:57.308] So this is what you're going to see for in context. And [00:20:59.439] it'll change based on your resources. So if instead [00:21:02.160] I want to come in here and take a look at gale ebooks, [00:21:04.459] That's another really popular collection that I'm [00:21:06.558] sure a lot of you have access to. [00:21:08.430] I can choose how I want to order my [00:21:11.130] ebooks if I want to order them by title or by date. [00:21:13.969] You'll see another great feature here [00:21:16.250] is defaulting to the book view just [00:21:18.837] standard when your users click into an [00:21:20.920] ebook, they're going to see a text version [00:21:23.097] kind of like an HTML version if [00:21:25.430] you prefer. They see the nice kind [00:21:27.509] of native ebook view where they get the [00:21:29.548] images, they be able to flip through the pages. [00:21:31.939] You can default to that being turned on. [00:21:34.949] Again we include content levels and leel reading [00:21:37.449] measures here. So if you want to take those off, you [00:21:39.489] certainly can right here. [00:21:42.500] We'll look at one more. We'll take a look at our Gale [00:21:44.719] Power search. So that's our cross search. [00:21:47.199] This is another section that oftentimes [00:21:50.538] as you utilize quite frequently. [00:21:52.778] So again, if we want to choose to include [00:21:55.019] Les we can but what's really [00:21:57.170] handy on this page is you can choose what is [00:21:59.189] being searched here. [00:22:01.130] within your power search and again you're only going to see [00:22:03.288] the resources here you have access to so [00:22:05.347] your list might not look like mine. [00:22:08.000] So I can choose if I only want [00:22:10.170] my students, let's say I'm working [00:22:12.298] at a K 12 school. Again I I want [00:22:14.317] my students to take a look at my in contact resources. [00:22:16.750] I don't want them searching through one file, [00:22:18.847] I don't want them searching through. Um [00:22:21.630] My business resources, I can just [00:22:23.808] go through here and just click my in context. [00:22:26.479] So now they are still power searching but they're [00:22:28.509] only power searching those in context. [00:22:30.670] Resources that you've chosen. [00:22:34.117] And again that is our power search. If [00:22:36.288] you are interested in our power search, we actually have [00:22:38.327] a fully created webinar for you about that [00:22:40.709] on our support site. I'll give you that information [00:22:42.719] later. But that is our cross search and you can't [00:22:44.827] edit that here on gale admin. [00:22:50.180] now. Moving down from [00:22:51.469] preferences, we have our discovery [00:22:53.660] services option right here and [00:22:55.827] this again just gives another little [00:22:58.048] bit of information for you. So if you're [00:23:00.117] using a specific discovery service [00:23:02.278] you can get that all organized here. So if you have an open [00:23:04.479] U. R. O. If you have an interlibrary [00:23:06.769] loan that you want to get entered [00:23:09.067] into here [00:23:10.709] most likely if you're doing this, you have all [00:23:12.827] of this content available. If [00:23:14.837] you know, you want to set this up, but you don't have all of [00:23:16.890] this information, you should be able to find [00:23:19.009] it from whoever handles your tech or [00:23:21.028] whoever handles your [00:23:23.087] kind of virtual resources, [00:23:25.209] but you'll be able to enter that here and you'll be able to run through [00:23:27.308] this all on your own. [00:23:29.930] we also have a customer links button [00:23:33.250] And this is really nice if you want to kind of [00:23:35.317] link your users back to a specific [00:23:37.327] area. So you'll see, I've included our support [00:23:39.788] site here which is support [00:23:41.317] dot com and this is going to [00:23:43.347] populate. I'm gonna jump back to that product [00:23:46.048] menu I opened up earlier [00:23:49.209] It's going to populate here where I select [00:23:51.469] library menu, so it's going to populate on [00:23:53.587] this product menu. It's also [00:23:55.607] going to populate in your resources. It's always [00:23:57.769] going to appear up top here [00:23:59.920] and you see I have my additional links and I've included [00:24:02.150] my support site links here. So if [00:24:04.278] you want to maybe put your library's website, [00:24:06.500] your library, social media platforms, [00:24:09.117] maybe you have a lib guide that you want to highlight. [00:24:11.420] You can throw all of that here on these links [00:24:13.519] and have that be readily available for your [00:24:15.577] users [00:24:18.689] you'll see we have the option to request to Mark records [00:24:21.130] but we've actually moved our Mark records to [00:24:23.160] the support site so they are on demand [00:24:25.420] ready for you to download as needed. So again [00:24:27.479] support G dot com, you'll be able to pull [00:24:29.577] those again as needed. You won't [00:24:31.709] need to worry about waiting for us at all. You'll be [00:24:33.729] able to pull those [00:24:36.058] if you have custom databases you do [00:24:38.259] find that here. So some institutions may have [00:24:40.357] custom news or magazine [00:24:42.380] databases. I don't have any attached to my account. [00:24:44.798] So we won't take a look at them today but [00:24:46.837] this will give you information. If you do have [00:24:48.857] them So [00:24:54.449] a quick question back in our [00:24:56.528] discovery here. So [00:24:58.930] a question about the interlibrary link. [00:25:01.607] Yeah, so if you're part of an interlibrary loan [00:25:03.670] system, you'll be able to enter in that information [00:25:06.640] so your Gil resources will flow back and [00:25:08.650] forth. So if a user requests um [00:25:11.597] a piece of content from whatever other library [00:25:13.808] you're working with, the Gil content [00:25:15.959] will flow in there and it'll be forward over to them [00:25:18.038] in the full text or whatever text version we have [00:25:20.087] available. [00:25:22.439] We have an ebooks tab here as well. [00:25:24.617] We have a sub collection manager with, [00:25:26.949] sub collection manager listed [00:25:28.979] here that you can use to build sub collections [00:25:31.229] of ebooks. But we've just recently [00:25:33.630] built in a nice tool within Gil ebooks [00:25:35.827] that's going to help you do that a bit more [00:25:37.969] dynamically. You'll be able to sign directly into Gil [00:25:40.048] ebooks again, using your admin credentials [00:25:42.759] and you'll be able to make collections for [00:25:45.239] maybe specific programs, you're running [00:25:47.327] specific classes, maybe [00:25:49.430] for small businesses you want to have your own collections [00:25:51.729] so you can actually do that within Gil ebooks now [00:25:54.739] So I prefer, I'd recommend using [00:25:56.827] that method as opposed to the ebooks but we [00:25:59.028] do have that option here as well. [00:26:03.528] Another great feature is going to be our usage [00:26:05.650] reports here. [00:26:07.900] so I'm going to go ahead and click into view usage reports. [00:26:10.097] It's going to pop me up into this different view here [00:26:12.959] and again, the best [00:26:14.617] um [00:26:15.640] bit of information you're going to find here [00:26:17.650] are going to be those counter four counter five [00:26:20.140] bits of content you'll see on the left [00:26:22.189] hand side here, it automatically populates those [00:26:24.459] for me. So whichever I need, I can [00:26:26.729] click into this and get as specific as I need [00:26:29.019] to. and [00:26:31.699] it will run this for me. Honestly I don't know how my [00:26:33.769] usage is so I can't really tell you how this is [00:26:35.857] gonna look but we'll take a look [00:26:38.019] here. so [00:26:40.107] I'll be able to click into this [00:26:46.519] and it's hopefully gonna run this for me. [00:26:54.699] Ok, [00:26:56.278] You'll see you have a few different options, you have some quick [00:26:58.430] links. If you're looking for something specific here then [00:27:00.778] it does download as a spreadsheet. [00:27:04.347] Let me pull this forward here [00:27:06.317] and Sherry, yep, I'll show you an example. So this [00:27:08.538] that I'm pulling up right now is platform usage. [00:27:11.597] I believe I clicked into counter five [00:27:14.019] if I'm remembering correctly [00:27:16.199] So it's just going to show you a quick bit of information [00:27:20.067] and this is different and I want to mention again than our usage [00:27:22.380] dashboard which is a little bit more visual. [00:27:24.640] We have some different charts and graphs available [00:27:26.837] on our usage dashboard. but this [00:27:28.920] is if you need those really strict counter [00:27:31.979] measures of course they are pretty specific. [00:27:34.390] You can pull those here so you'll see. All of this [00:27:36.452] different information on top here and [00:27:38.525] then you'll get the specific metric information. [00:27:41.153] And again, mine is small [00:27:43.275] because I'm not getting as much usage [00:27:45.433] out of my resources but you'll be able [00:27:47.574] to pull that content and again it is automatically [00:27:49.644] listed here as an excel sheet for you [00:27:56.140] Now let me jump back to those quick links here, because [00:27:58.219] again, I just want to point out as you're using this, [00:28:00.798] you have the ability to choose how [00:28:02.979] to run your reports, you can select this or [00:28:05.337] if you want to schedule reports, maybe you want to get [00:28:07.469] your counter five. [00:28:09.308] I don't know, [00:28:10.439] I get quarterly, [00:28:11.808] you'll be able to do that. This will show you exactly [00:28:13.910] how to schedule that information [00:28:16.250] as I mentioned before. You also have access [00:28:18.509] to a usage dashboard [00:28:20.558] and we do have that link here. So this is usually a [00:28:22.577] little bit quicker and it's a bit more visual. [00:28:24.969] So if you just want to kind of get your numbers, [00:28:27.269] maybe you want to see top search terms [00:28:29.317] in your resources or something like that usage [00:28:31.769] dashboard a lot of times is going to be a better [00:28:33.989] situation than using that. [00:28:37.269] that other usage platform which again [00:28:39.347] I like to prefer to just use for my counter [00:28:41.689] reports um this usage dashboard [00:28:45.048] is the the same [00:28:47.259] sign in as your gale admin. So you'll see mine authenticated [00:28:49.630] me because I'm signed into my gale admin [00:28:51.837] already, but you'll be able to sign in if you [00:28:54.170] your usage that way [00:28:56.709] We won't go all the way through that today but [00:28:58.788] you do have that available for you as well [00:29:02.259] if I had archives listed here, this will give me [00:29:04.288] some archival information. I don't [00:29:06.380] if you do you have access to that. [00:29:08.817] And my last feature is our help button. [00:29:11.160] So of course we didn't spend a lot of time [00:29:13.538] here today. [00:29:15.077] so if you still have some questions that haven't been answered, [00:29:17.808] you can take a look at these help files, they're really going to [00:29:19.847] help you out. Our accounts have some [00:29:21.857] different hierarchies listed. Mine is pretty [00:29:24.117] simple. I have one location and that's it. [00:29:26.548] Yours might look a little bit different. Yours might [00:29:28.670] have institutions [00:29:30.709] and location levels. [00:29:32.729] So if you do have that, you may even have [00:29:34.857] a consortium level if you're included in [00:29:36.949] some sort of state consortium. So [00:29:38.900] if that's the case, you'll see [00:29:40.969] this is the hierarchy here. So this help [00:29:43.077] file is going to show you how you can work throughout that [00:29:45.150] hierarchy and what each of the levels [00:29:47.420] mean. You [00:29:49.548] see we have the getting started guide listed here [00:29:51.577] as well. We have some summary information [00:29:54.140] if you want to learn a bit more about our authentication [00:29:57.180] here, you'll see I wasn't able to go through [00:29:59.278] all of this information but this will give you some additional [00:30:01.739] details on what each of these authentication [00:30:04.420] types are. [00:30:06.837] and you see it goes out for all of them here. [00:30:09.587] so you could choose any of them to kind of be launched for [00:30:11.798] internet. [00:30:19.058] Now, that's what I have for you guys today [00:30:21.067] and I saved quite a bit of time for questions [00:30:23.699] that you may have. I haven't seen any additional pop [00:30:25.808] up but um let me go [00:30:27.890] ahead switch out, give you some contact [00:30:29.920] information in case you want to learn [00:30:31.930] some more. [00:30:34.380] Here we go. [00:30:35.449] Um and if you do have questions, go ahead and keep popping them [00:30:37.567] in. But If you do [00:30:39.699] want to speak with someone a little bit more in depth [00:30:42.028] about the admin or maybe you want [00:30:44.107] to talk about your account, maybe how [00:30:46.430] you could best set up authentication for [00:30:48.469] your specific user type or for your specific [00:30:50.597] learning community, [00:30:52.170] you can reach out to your customer success manager. [00:31:09.500] So if you want to talk about any of your resources, [00:31:11.778] maybe resources, you're interested in that you noticed [00:31:14.709] when clicking through Gale admin that you didn't actually [00:31:17.028] have access to either reach out to them directly. [00:31:19.479] If you don't or if you don't know who they are, you can just [00:31:21.660] go to support at dot com forward slash [00:31:23.857] rep finder and you'll be forwarded to [00:31:25.910] the correct individual and they can help you out. [00:31:28.489] and I mentioned a few times. We also have a support [00:31:30.930] site that's really beneficial. Support dot Gale [00:31:32.959] dot com. So you'll find pre-recorded [00:31:34.989] webinars on things like Gale admin, [00:31:37.130] but also on specific Gale [00:31:39.347] resources. As I mentioned, we have one [00:31:41.500] specifically for our power search. [00:31:43.528] We also have some different [00:31:46.259] Um marketing materials, training [00:31:48.390] materials, lesson plans, activities, [00:31:51.449] social media posts, those goes on. [00:31:53.538] So if you need some additional Gale support [00:31:55.670] take a look at support dot Gale dot com. [00:32:01.607] and then I do have here, Excuse [00:32:03.769] me A training session [00:32:06.048] survey. If you all have the time to take it, [00:32:08.357] you can either scan it with your phone if you have a phone [00:32:10.528] on you or you can just go to dot forward [00:32:12.699] slash bill training [00:32:15.038] email. And [00:32:19.528] then we've got a couple questions here. So [00:32:22.439] First one, talking about [00:32:24.519] interlibrary loan. Yeah, Christi [00:32:26.617] did you have that set up set up, gel can flow just [00:32:28.939] like your other resources. [00:32:39.867] Ok? It looks like Catherine has a question [00:32:41.969] about customer links. So let me just jump back [00:32:44.117] here to make sure I understand [00:32:46.617] your question. Let me click back into my [00:32:48.739] account here. [00:32:53.699] the customer links. [00:32:56.769] And let me see here so you can set [00:32:58.827] these. Currently I have two links but I don't see the [00:33:00.857] ability to add a row. So Catherine, [00:33:03.019] you don't have the option here to use this [00:33:05.028] add row button, you don't see that underneath [00:33:07.189] the the link. URL [00:33:13.729] Hm well [00:33:17.420] Catherine, I'm not quite sure why you don't have that [00:33:19.469] ad row button. [00:33:20.558] It's a little it's a little strange. Um [00:33:22.989] reach out to your customer success manager, they'll [00:33:25.067] be able to take a look at your specific account, [00:33:27.528] see why that's not working for you. Um [00:33:31.189] I would assume it's not an issue related to [00:33:33.209] your resources because you should be able to add as [00:33:35.298] many as needed. But um your customer [00:33:37.788] success manager can go through your specific instance [00:33:40.150] and see why yours is [00:33:42.019] acting a little bit differently, [00:33:57.000] Ok. [00:33:58.140] Well, I don't see any more questions popping [00:34:00.298] up so I'll go ahead and leave you off for the day. [00:34:02.567] I thank you for being on the line again, if you have [00:34:04.617] additional questions about Gale admin that weren't addressed [00:34:06.959] today, feel free to reach out to me or your [00:34:09.099] customer success manager. [00:34:13.349] Oh we have a quick question here. Um [00:34:15.469] Again, if you don't have any questions, feel free to hop off, [00:34:17.688] I'll be here answering questions. So we have another one. [00:34:19.780] Can you set power search as default? [00:34:22.329] So Catherine, I'm assuming you mean [00:34:24.518] just sending your users to power Search [00:34:26.728] as opposed to sending them to any specific, [00:34:29.320] any other resource. Um There's not [00:34:31.429] an option within gale admin, but [00:34:33.610] what I would recommend you doing is pull [00:34:35.768] the. Let [00:34:38.780] me jump back here, [00:34:40.179] pull the specific URL just [00:34:42.228] to power search and then you can post [00:34:44.250] that wherever you want it to go so you can find [00:34:46.500] your direct URL s on the support site [00:34:48.760] or I opened up a few different tabs here. [00:34:52.780] Um [00:34:54.599] if I click into Gil Power Search, [00:34:57.909] you know, you can just pull this direct [00:34:59.978] URL and you can paste it so um [00:35:02.090] instead of having individual ones [00:35:04.208] for, you know, [00:35:05.829] your biography, your environmental [00:35:08.070] studies, just use this instead and post [00:35:10.268] it to wherever you want it to go and then they'll be automatically [00:35:12.679] launched here [00:35:13.938] and they can choose what they want to search. There's no [00:35:16.300] feature right now in gale admin that [00:35:18.639] will set that up for them, but you can get that [00:35:20.739] direct. URL just a power search only. [00:35:35.478] OK, well, I'll let everyone go then. [00:35:37.530] Thank you again, everyone for being on the line [00:35:39.619] and hopefully we'll see you in future sessions.
