[00:00:01.459] All right good morning everybody and welcome. [00:00:03.720] I'm Stacey Knibloe with gale. Glad to [00:00:05.769] be with you here this morning to take [00:00:07.788] a look at a newer resource [00:00:10.000] you have available to you through. Jersey clicks [00:00:12.489] Gale Presents Peterson's Test [00:00:14.689] and Career Prep Which is a mouthful [00:00:17.059] for a a product name. So you'll [00:00:19.068] probably mostly hear me refer to it as Peterson's [00:00:22.219] or Test and Career Prep [00:00:24.440] with some sort of abbreviation. [00:00:26.399] But we want to make sure you know what you can [00:00:28.429] expect from this resource and how it can [00:00:30.579] work into the workflow at your library [00:00:33.000] and just share some best practices [00:00:35.348] for using it. [00:00:37.020] and of course answer all your questions so we want [00:00:39.048] to leave a lot of time for those as well. [00:00:41.348] Another thing we're gonna look at is a way [00:00:43.389] to make this resource more discoverable [00:00:45.509] at your library. We've lot you've got lots [00:00:47.630] of great marketing tools out at the [00:00:49.759] gill support site that you can certainly make [00:00:51.880] use of but there are some other neat [00:00:53.950] resources you can take advantage of. [00:00:56.560] we're gonna talk about Mark [00:00:58.668] Records and subject. Top links, a little [00:01:01.359] in a little more detail. because [00:01:03.399] we certainly want folks to know that this is available [00:01:05.750] through your library and have some neat ideas [00:01:08.099] for how you can spread the word. So [00:01:10.180] as always though, we'll wrap up with where [00:01:12.278] you can go for more help from gale. We want [00:01:14.400] you to be able to reach out to us with questions [00:01:16.418] and feedback any time. [00:01:18.010] and to that end we'll also [00:01:20.150] be sending a follow-up email that will come to you tomorrow [00:01:22.489] around this time. That has some links [00:01:24.528] and lots of the good stuff [00:01:26.569] that I mentioned in the session so [00:01:28.609] you can of course feel free to reach out [00:01:31.088] in response to that email or [00:01:33.448] again to anyone on the Gale team [00:01:35.510] when you've got questions after today [00:01:38.198] but do feel free to keep them coming during the [00:01:40.250] session. I have [00:01:43.058] Again budget is a good amount of time so we [00:01:45.150] can cover lots of questions [00:01:46.980] and I'm happy to kind [00:01:49.219] of click on what you see in the resource [00:01:51.760] and want me to show you what it does just jump [00:01:54.198] in any time. So [00:01:56.088] let's go ahead and dive in. [00:01:59.010] So first we just wanna give [00:02:01.180] a quick overview of the resource, you can know [00:02:03.230] what to expect from it that it is well named. [00:02:05.609] But we want to let you know [00:02:07.829] a little more detail about kind of the main areas [00:02:09.889] of the resource. So [00:02:11.399] Gale Presents Peterson's Test and Career Prep [00:02:13.490] is of course a partner product between Gale [00:02:15.750] and Peterson. So even before [00:02:17.788] I went to work for gale, I knew Peterson's resources. [00:02:20.528] We had a hard time keeping their books on the shelf [00:02:23.000] in the library. I was a also [00:02:25.319] a hard time getting them back and maybe the condition [00:02:27.610] that they went out in, [00:02:28.879] So very familiar with Peterson's content. [00:02:31.278] We're thrilled to partner with them [00:02:33.219] and this whole resource is built [00:02:35.288] around their test and career prep offerings [00:02:37.849] and of course we have a lot of that content in [00:02:39.939] the resource. So one of [00:02:41.979] the most popular areas of the database [00:02:44.199] is the test prep tools. [00:02:46.219] So you can prep for different standardized [00:02:48.278] testing. [00:02:49.679] for them relating to college high [00:02:51.689] school and career [00:02:53.868] and we're gonna explore those, show you how those [00:02:55.909] tests work. [00:02:57.449] We also have a lot of great content [00:02:59.520] around folks looking for a new [00:03:01.679] career or say in a high school [00:03:03.710] high schoolers point of view of [00:03:05.770] their career. There's lots [00:03:08.000] of tools around support [00:03:10.349] like figuring that out. But then also [00:03:13.338] active tools where you can go in and take a career [00:03:15.669] assessment, read up on different jobs. [00:03:17.868] Even view open positions [00:03:20.719] Ok. And then to that end, when you're ready to start [00:03:22.849] applying for jobs, there's a resume builder [00:03:25.139] or a co a cover letter builder along [00:03:27.520] with some additional pieces we'll talk about. [00:03:29.699] And again a lot of support for that as [00:03:31.740] well, so how to prepare for an interview, how to negotiate [00:03:34.308] salary, what your resume should [00:03:36.449] include. There's lots of great support [00:03:38.778] within the resource [00:03:41.028] And then lastly should the career you're interested [00:03:43.288] in require some sort of schooling. We've got [00:03:45.368] searches for colleges specific [00:03:47.770] programs for safe but there's a nursing [00:03:50.020] program. Search there's searches for [00:03:52.169] say an M. B. A. Program [00:03:54.729] you also have support around a lot of [00:03:56.770] the financial issues that come with college. [00:03:59.000] So can find scholarships to [00:04:01.080] apply for, can read up on you know [00:04:03.088] what you have to do with F. F. A. And things like that [00:04:05.368] so a lot of support [00:04:07.379] is built into this resource. You know the [00:04:09.558] the I think the kind of resume tool [00:04:11.899] and the test prep get a lot of [00:04:13.939] use. But keep in mind that this [00:04:16.079] does more than that. There's really a lot more help [00:04:18.269] here for for building a career. [00:04:21.019] So we are gonna dive right into it and [00:04:23.088] spend our time most of our time in [00:04:25.149] the database. So again if you see [00:04:27.230] something on the screen you'd like to know more about. [00:04:29.519] Just let me know I've of course got a list [00:04:31.730] of things I want to cover with you. But [00:04:34.220] I'm happy you know to take a left turn. [00:04:36.399] This is really your session. So let's get your [00:04:38.519] your questions answered. [00:04:40.548] So the home page of Peterson’s [00:04:42.959] Test and Career prep is gonna basically [00:04:45.569] give you a sense of what you can do here [00:04:47.809] but you'll notice in the upper right hand corner, [00:04:51.829] there's a login option and it will also [00:04:53.869] prompt. You kind of should you go down one of these paths [00:04:56.048] and select something to log in. [00:04:58.399] So [00:04:59.730] the resource is something [00:05:01.988] that people come back to right they come back and they [00:05:04.048] keep working on a resume. They take another [00:05:06.528] practice test, that type of thing. So we need [00:05:08.619] to be able to keep track of who's using the database. [00:05:11.338] So it does require what we would call [00:05:13.519] a named user login. [00:05:16.040] so let's look at [00:05:18.278] that first and then we'll explore the resource. [00:05:20.689] So [00:05:21.488] the login button of course if you've been here before and [00:05:23.500] log into your account or we're gonna use the new user sign [00:05:25.670] up so you can see what's involved. [00:05:27.798] It is very simple. Your name, [00:05:30.588] user name, password and a secret word are [00:05:32.619] the only things that are required, email address [00:05:34.988] is optional. [00:05:36.509] Folks don't have to submit that if they [00:05:38.588] don't want to. It is the best way to reset [00:05:40.629] your password. Should you forget it. But if [00:05:42.838] you don't. [00:05:44.100] there's other ways to reset your password. [00:05:46.519] We are not doing anything with this data [00:05:48.879] nor is Peterson's you're not gonna start [00:05:50.899] all of a sudden getting promotional emails from [00:05:53.000] Peterson's or gale. If you do turn over your email [00:05:55.350] address it is strictly there so you can [00:05:57.959] reset your password. [00:05:59.559] You also fill this in [00:06:01.759] and your account is immediately created. You don't [00:06:03.879] have to again because your email address isn't required, [00:06:06.139] you don't have to go and verify your email address. [00:06:08.238] You're just in immediately [00:06:10.439] Again we don't truly know [00:06:12.970] who you are at the other end of this. [00:06:15.389] [00:06:16.730] No user information is being tracked aside [00:06:18.970] from this account that lets you get back to your [00:06:21.028] practice desk your resume. [00:06:23.040] So privacy is important. [00:06:25.189] It always is important particularly [00:06:27.250] if you're gonna be working with people who are under 18. [00:06:29.309] So Yale has very strict rules around [00:06:31.649] privacy. You can actually if you scroll to the bottom of [00:06:33.709] the page you can get out to our privacy policy [00:06:36.009] and [00:06:37.209] learn more about it. [00:06:39.040] Now I am gonna go ahead and log into a demo [00:06:41.069] account just because I want to show you what some things look like [00:06:43.119] when they're completed. So rather than sign [00:06:45.290] up here, I'm gonna use that log in button. [00:06:48.619] And just use my demo account here. [00:06:52.238] and there's unlimited users. So feel [00:06:54.470] free to create your own accounts to get [00:06:56.488] to know the database and then of course, [00:06:58.699] you know, your patron and your students cannot [00:07:00.778] create their own as well. So no, [00:07:02.949] no limits there. [00:07:04.720] All right, so now we're back to the home page [00:07:06.778] before I kind of dive into each area. I [00:07:08.798] want to point out at the top of the screen [00:07:12.329] Oh my I wanna use my little [00:07:14.389] anti tool. It's blocking the thing. I wanna circle. [00:07:16.709] There we go. [00:07:18.100] there is a title list available [00:07:20.399] that breaks down all [00:07:22.459] of the content that's in the database and [00:07:24.548] this gets updated as we up are actually [00:07:26.879] I think it's around four times a year because [00:07:29.119] different parts of the database, different [00:07:31.199] tests are updated at different times. [00:07:33.600] The title list is really the best place [00:07:35.619] to see what's in the database and [00:07:37.738] when it's from. So you can see [00:07:41.178] even more detail, how many practice [00:07:43.230] tests do we have for that exam, that type of thing. [00:07:45.600] And the last official [00:07:47.629] testing because some of these standardized tests, you [00:07:49.678] know every three years they maybe change up the [00:07:51.778] format or you know something like that. [00:07:54.369] You get those dates as well. And [00:07:56.470] then the last time the content was updated. [00:07:59.540] So this might make a nice printout to keep at the reference [00:08:01.980] desk a quick check of what's in [00:08:04.040] the resource. You kind of though. Of course [00:08:06.259] though explore and just test and see if [00:08:08.379] we have what you're looking for. But this gives you those [00:08:10.399] additional dates. So I would like to point those [00:08:12.660] out, But the resource [00:08:15.009] itself really tells you what's in it. So [00:08:17.048] that's what we're gonna explore here. There is a search [00:08:19.149] so if you want it you know you're looking for the S. A. T. You [00:08:21.250] can just kind of [00:08:22.600] search and land right there [00:08:24.738] or what we're gonna do. What I tend to [00:08:27.100] always start with. I like a brows tool [00:08:29.278] because then you can see what's around [00:08:31.540] in the resource and you know discover new [00:08:33.649] things. We are always [00:08:35.729] our databases are never finished so we're always adding [00:08:37.969] new content. I think there have been a few new things [00:08:40.099] added even since this was added [00:08:42.399] to the Jersey clicks program. So [00:08:45.070] you know, always good to I think be in the live [00:08:47.090] resource and see what's here. [00:08:49.129] So there are four areas where you'll kind [00:08:51.308] of go down paths within the resource, [00:08:53.369] improve your score is [00:08:55.889] mostly gonna be test prep for [00:08:58.168] standardized tests. But then some additional tools [00:09:00.308] we're gonna take a look at, [00:09:01.830] find a school is exactly that. It's [00:09:03.859] all the collar, scholarships or sorry the college [00:09:06.210] searches plus scholarship searches, you [00:09:08.330] know, advice around financial aid and things [00:09:10.428] like that. [00:09:11.849] explore. Careers is gonna lead you to the [00:09:13.940] resume builder. The career [00:09:16.349] assessments. And again help [00:09:18.639] for doing all of that job search. [00:09:21.820] and then vocational test prep. So again more [00:09:23.908] standardized tests which is relating to particular [00:09:26.219] careers [00:09:27.889] and we're going to go down each of these paths. So [00:09:29.918] let me know if there's anything particular you want to look for. [00:09:32.158] Actually let me check the chat and Q. And A. [00:09:34.469] Nothing yet. But let me go ahead and [00:09:36.538] get started with improve your score. [00:09:40.239] so we're gonna get into you [00:09:42.288] know probably the most popular test in the resource is [00:09:44.418] the S. A. T. But before we get [00:09:46.599] to that I want to point out some of the other [00:09:48.658] tools that are here, we have [00:09:50.729] this foundational skills section [00:09:52.940] which is [00:09:54.590] really handy because what it does is [00:09:56.759] let you go through some [00:09:58.879] tutorials and question banks [00:10:01.908] around English reading math. [00:10:04.330] It can be just a good brush up. Say we've got [00:10:06.469] someone who's on the job market again after say [00:10:08.609] 20 years and they're looking for something [00:10:10.928] new. Maybe there's some you know they're [00:10:13.070] gonna prep for the postal exam. Firefight [00:10:15.119] exam, something like that. [00:10:16.840] And they just want to brush up on some [00:10:19.019] of these skills That's gonna be a great use here. [00:10:21.053] These can also be great supplemental support [00:10:23.715] for students for [00:10:25.894] folks who are maybe learning English [00:10:28.274] you'll also find here though office Microsoft [00:10:30.835] office tutorials. So [00:10:32.965] something folks can do at home. [00:10:35.014] We've got a Windows 11 tutorial down here [00:10:38.479] So there are these kind of additional [00:10:41.200] not quite for specific tests but [00:10:43.219] just additional kind of skills building [00:10:45.479] here under foundational skills. [00:10:48.408] now. The four paths follow me [00:10:50.658] through my time in the resource. So if I open [00:10:52.719] up that little arrow next to improve your school, [00:10:54.798] I can get to all the other areas. So if you [00:10:56.879] take a look at high school we've got things like preparing [00:10:59.229] for a P. Exams and just a quick [00:11:01.519] click into them, you can see which exams [00:11:03.580] are here. This is a list that's really grown [00:11:05.779] over time. We love to hear feedback [00:11:08.428] about what folks need [00:11:10.950] in their schools and their libraries. So [00:11:13.058] you know you see the results in this resource. [00:11:15.469] When that happens [00:11:17.450] So college prep is where we'll find [00:11:19.469] the S. A. T. The A. C. T. The [00:11:21.519] clap exam, P. S. A. T. All [00:11:23.989] of these that you might take while you're [00:11:26.048] in high school [00:11:27.609] and what you'll find is as you select [00:11:29.690] each test [00:11:32.178] You'll see whatever support we have for [00:11:34.479] it. So in some cases you'll see [00:11:36.840] three items. Three cards here like I have. [00:11:39.340] In some cases you'll see one card, it's just gonna [00:11:41.509] vary about the content that's here. [00:11:44.080] But what we're of course always looking for [00:11:46.279] are those practice tests. So that's the most common [00:11:48.570] card you'll find. [00:11:49.908] We also though carry the eBook content [00:11:52.340] from Peterson so [00:11:54.379] we've got the master of the S. A. T. 2020 [00:11:56.759] eBook here that we can go through. It just gonna [00:11:58.769] be a P. D. F. I can work with [00:12:00.639] and then a few tests a handful of tests [00:12:02.690] will actually have online courses to go [00:12:04.849] along with them. Which I always like to [00:12:06.859] point this out for the S. A. T. Because [00:12:09.700] this is something someone can do for free [00:12:11.879] through your library [00:12:13.729] at their own pace. You know this is it. They don't have [00:12:15.739] to make time you know to co go [00:12:18.149] to an S. A. T. Prep course again [00:12:20.590] don't have to pay for it. So you know [00:12:22.609] really equitable here, anybody can get to [00:12:24.658] this. [00:12:25.649] and it basically like it implies [00:12:27.788] preps you for the S. A. T. There are some pre [00:12:29.940] assessments as you go through [00:12:32.570] you work on the different sections of the test, [00:12:36.168] and this is along with [00:12:38.739] the master of the S. A. T. E. Book so you can use [00:12:40.908] that as a companion or [00:12:43.250] another tool to help study for the exam. [00:12:46.808] So really valuable to have those two kind of [00:12:48.908] powerful tools with you. But [00:12:51.090] I will say the practice tests are probably the most popular [00:12:53.450] because that's of course gonna put you right in [00:12:56.649] that kind of test. Taking mindset and [00:12:59.070] testing how you're doing [00:13:01.379] So you can, as you're going through [00:13:03.779] the practice test you'll see they almost [00:13:05.798] act like courses. I should say almost [00:13:08.038] they kind of do, we can see course contents here. [00:13:10.250] I'm 24% of the way through the practice [00:13:12.479] tests available. [00:13:14.989] And for the S. A. T. We [00:13:17.119] actually have a lot of [00:13:19.200] versions of a practice exam. I think we're up to nine. [00:13:22.399] Yes so nine practice [00:13:24.719] tests for the S. A. T. That will [00:13:26.750] vary too. We're gonna look at other tests where maybe [00:13:28.899] we've got three different versions. [00:13:30.869] We want to add as many as we [00:13:32.908] can because it's not good to [00:13:34.928] just take, keep taking the same one over [00:13:37.168] and over and start memorizing answers. Right [00:13:39.729] so having multiples is [00:13:41.750] really valuable. [00:13:43.590] and you can see here over on the left the ones I've taken. [00:13:45.649] I've got a check mark four [00:13:47.320] and if we go ahead and wanna take another, [00:13:49.849] I'm just gonna jump into one here. [00:13:52.940] you get a little info about the quiz [00:13:55.000] first you have you [00:13:57.119] know instructions for how it's gonna work. You might [00:13:59.190] also have [00:14:00.729] let's see it looks like the S. A. T. Doesn't have [00:14:02.859] one. But some of the tests will have like their own [00:14:05.168] introduction over here on the table of contents [00:14:07.450] at Sandy. [00:14:08.519] But if we go ahead and [00:14:10.580] start the quiz [00:14:15.080] This is formatted like it's pieces [00:14:17.250] of paper. So the way you might move through the test [00:14:19.820] Some are of course electronic themselves but [00:14:22.168] [00:14:23.538] it's kind of mimic that real world experience [00:14:25.619] here, we've got a passage we need to read. [00:14:28.129] And as I scroll down I'll then [00:14:30.359] see the questions for this passage. [00:14:33.200] And if you go through [00:14:36.320] it really is like taking the test, you're [00:14:38.369] just marking your answers, you can go [00:14:40.418] back and change them at any point. I can [00:14:42.750] adjust as I'm marking [00:14:44.840] them off. You'll see the pages over [00:14:47.658] on the left or marking each question with a check [00:14:49.779] mark as I answer it. So I can kind of [00:14:51.928] visually get a cue as to where I am [00:14:54.849] this of course not the way you probably want to take [00:14:56.908] the S. A. T. But you can move [00:14:59.070] through [00:15:00.859] and mark your answers. [00:15:02.879] And then at the bottom here you have the option [00:15:05.239] to move to the next page. You can always submit the [00:15:07.250] quiz which we will submit this early [00:15:09.538] but just keep moving through. [00:15:11.558] But with that navigation over on the left [00:15:13.668] and then at the bottom of the questions you can always [00:15:15.820] get back and forth. So if I want to go back and [00:15:17.889] review my answers, make some changes [00:15:20.019] or even leave one undone, I can [00:15:22.178] skip a. Question and come back to it [00:15:24.259] later and again I'm gonna have that visual cue over [00:15:26.298] on the left. as well as [00:15:28.918] and once I submit the quiz [00:15:32.038] or click the submit quiz [00:15:34.048] button, it will let me know if I've forgotten [00:15:36.428] any questions if I haven't answered something. [00:15:39.500] So let me get a few more of these answered [00:15:41.940] and I'll go ahead and submit now [00:15:43.940] it's even warning me down below here, 20 [00:15:45.979] of 52 questions save. Again I've got [00:15:48.058] the visual queue over on the lap that I haven't [00:15:50.298] answered some but when I submit to [00:15:53.250] it's gonna warn me I've got 32 unanswered [00:15:55.450] questions which I'm just gonna go with. [00:15:59.259] and it takes a minute but it grades [00:16:01.330] the exam and then puts you right back in it [00:16:03.340] to review it so you can go through and see how [00:16:05.479] you did. [00:16:06.668] And randomly selecting answers is [00:16:08.989] not pro oh it looks like I got lucky [00:16:11.019] on the first one. So [00:16:13.229] you can open up and see I've got the correct [00:16:15.529] answer here and even the second one, wow [00:16:17.889] I did ok on these first three. Here [00:16:20.178] we go. But this is what it looks like when you've got something wrong. [00:16:22.450] So it lets you know with a little red X. Your answer [00:16:24.548] was wrong and then the blue arrow pointing [00:16:26.729] you to the right one and I can open up and view [00:16:28.820] the feedback so you can see kind of where you went [00:16:31.000] wrong. So [00:16:33.129] very handy to have this feedback [00:16:35.450] immediately. You can always go back and get it through [00:16:37.750] the kind of course view too if you want [00:16:39.820] to go back and review another test, [00:16:42.700] It's keeping track of all of these for you. [00:16:45.609] And the resource is [00:16:47.639] of course always gonna grade the multiple choice [00:16:49.739] sections. But if you've got a section [00:16:51.940] say like you do on the S. A. T. That's an essay [00:16:54.460] or a short answer. [00:16:56.460] It's really more for you to kind of have [00:16:58.570] the practice of writing that essay. [00:17:01.250] And then you can often use the eBook [00:17:03.298] to get an idea of maybe you know [00:17:05.318] what you should have done. There's some advice for [00:17:07.358] the short answers and essays and things like [00:17:09.469] that. So [00:17:10.837] It doesn't technically get graded here [00:17:12.938] but it does give you the, you know [00:17:15.307] a practice of doing it [00:17:19.198] So the other tests are gonna be formatted [00:17:21.208] like this. Let's go ahead and take a look at a few more. [00:17:23.259] I'm just gonna exit out of this tab here. [00:17:26.549] So again improve your score is gonna be [00:17:28.910] the test typically that have to do with [00:17:31.098] some sort of schooling. So again [00:17:33.118] whether it's a P. Exams or a P. S. [00:17:35.279] A. T. Or something like that grad school. [00:17:37.529] You've got those. This is also although [00:17:39.789] I think we have an inter vocational test prep to the international [00:17:42.309] sections. You can prepare for say the U. S. Citizenship [00:17:44.809] exam or the [00:17:46.509] to [00:17:48.239] met those here as well [00:17:50.680] but let's go ahead and take a look at vocational task [00:17:52.799] prep while we're on the subject. So I'm just gonna skip those [00:17:54.959] two tabs in the middle. [00:17:57.019] And the browse here [00:17:59.318] gives you an idea some of these are kind of broken down [00:18:01.459] by industry almost so [00:18:03.779] something like medical and nursing. This has [00:18:05.900] been a popular section of the resource. And we've [00:18:07.979] added a lot of new exams here. [00:18:10.059] E. M. T. I know we I think we've added [00:18:12.078] within the last, well no E. M. T. Has actually [00:18:14.170] been around longer than that dental admission test. [00:18:16.469] If you've got something we added this year we got some feedback. [00:18:19.670] you've got of course all your nursing practice [00:18:21.920] tests as well as the T. S. To kind of get into [00:18:24.039] nursing school. You have [00:18:26.328] C. N. A. Dental hygienist [00:18:28.410] massage therapy. [00:18:30.299] And again just click in and you'll see kind [00:18:32.318] of what's available for each [00:18:34.559] to go through. It looks like this is [00:18:36.709] can be just some test prep. [00:18:38.989] Oh no it looks like they've got some studying tools here [00:18:41.199] too. So clicking in will just [00:18:43.449] again gonna show you what's available [00:18:45.930] Some of the newer tests are here at the bottom [00:18:47.989] of this alphabetical list. So aviation and [00:18:50.098] transportation, this was one that kind of jumped [00:18:52.108] out at me for a New Jersey. You're [00:18:54.140] close to some airports there [00:18:56.309] or have some airports. So I was being close [00:18:58.588] to a few. The T. S. A. Exam is [00:19:00.709] is a newer one that we've added, [00:19:03.670] we've also added journeyman plumber [00:19:05.689] and electrician exams. [00:19:07.769] The HESI you've got [00:19:10.029] you know some great stuff here and the [00:19:12.108] p. A. Exam is is [00:19:14.430] a recent addition as well. [00:19:16.949] So these are, [00:19:19.309] all available [00:19:20.979] to any user again to take as many as [00:19:23.039] they like and if they're gonna keep coming back to something, [00:19:25.930] you'll see as I click around [00:19:28.049] and I'm looking at different cards, there's this [00:19:30.118] little star next to each of them. [00:19:32.670] If I click that star, [00:19:34.989] sorry, let me get rid of my drawing there so I can [00:19:37.039] click it, it adds it to my [00:19:39.279] favorites, it turns it purple, and then you'll [00:19:41.348] notice when you come into the database and log [00:19:43.598] in Your home page [00:19:45.630] lists all of your favorites. So [00:19:48.039] you can see I've got a lot here. I probably should clean this up. [00:19:50.239] I add a new one every time I do a training. So [00:19:53.098] you can easily get back and pick up where you [00:19:55.118] left off under create a resume or [00:19:57.189] math videos or whatever it may be and [00:19:59.479] just jump [00:20:00.650] you know right there from your login into [00:20:03.348] where you want to pick back up. [00:20:07.059] So let me just check the chat and Q. And A. Let me [00:20:09.078] know if there are any tests in particular. I'd like to see if we [00:20:11.209] have, [00:20:12.400] I'm happy to to navigate [00:20:14.838] to those [00:20:16.828] Alright so let's I'm gonna leave find [00:20:19.229] a school for our last [00:20:21.559] card we'll go into. I'm gonna open up [00:20:23.598] explore careers because I want to show you again some of [00:20:25.670] the more popular content so things [00:20:28.118] you might be working with folks a little more often on [00:20:30.848] the career tool section is [00:20:32.969] where we'll find career assessments, [00:20:34.989] the builder resume [00:20:37.358] Career advice we even include [00:20:39.779] the sometimes you'll see things in multiple places. [00:20:42.098] So career colleges searches here, it's [00:20:44.219] also gonna be under find a school, so kind of wherever [00:20:46.420] it's appropriate. You might find these cards. [00:20:48.979] and if they jump to create a resume, this [00:20:51.338] might be a familiar tool. This is We've [00:20:53.799] Peterson's partnered with Visual C. V. [00:20:56.358] Which is a resume builder out there on [00:20:58.449] the internet. They have a kind of [00:21:00.509] fee based service that folks can take advantage [00:21:02.519] of our subscription service. I think [00:21:04.519] here though there's no cost [00:21:06.529] of course to your end user and we get to take advantage [00:21:09.000] of some really cool tools [00:21:11.479] here with visual C. V. So [00:21:13.630] the [00:21:14.630] resume and cover builder are both [00:21:16.719] here and we're gonna look at those. [00:21:18.920] But I just want to mention these two other features [00:21:21.059] that are available. [00:21:22.500] Create a website. Actually let [00:21:24.539] you create a website about yourself [00:21:26.799] that you can send people to maybe put [00:21:28.838] in a cover letter. Oh, [00:21:30.838] when you visit the Visual C. V. It [00:21:32.939] will pop up and offer a tutorial [00:21:35.219] when you get here. So I'm here for that [00:21:37.309] today. So maybe I can close that out, but very handy. [00:21:39.858] but create a resume, lets you build [00:21:42.539] a website around yourself and they make it look [00:21:44.880] good, they build it around one of your resumes [00:21:47.019] or you can upload a new one and and [00:21:49.108] get started. [00:21:50.750] But we're gonna skip that for now but it is [00:21:52.809] a very handy piece created. [00:21:55.269] Journal entry is a really interesting [00:21:57.930] tool. I think that I want to start [00:21:59.949] taking advantage of what it does is [00:22:02.039] let you track your career highlight, [00:22:04.449] you create this career journal [00:22:06.568] so that [00:22:08.209] when you're applying for a job, when you're updating [00:22:10.390] your resume you go like oh yeah I did [00:22:12.549] do that big project that went really well. Or [00:22:14.670] even often in a resume they'll ask [00:22:16.848] you, you know, where's something [00:22:19.039] you had a challenge and how did you handle it. But those [00:22:21.380] are the kinds of things you can put here this little [00:22:23.430] you know journal entry to keep track [00:22:25.449] of all of that, refresh your memory, which [00:22:27.489] I often need help to do. [00:22:29.680] But you can also publish this. So if you did [00:22:31.729] want to keep track of that info and make it available. [00:22:34.358] You can send books to [00:22:36.469] the career journal as well. [00:22:38.479] so some neat features. But I do want to dig [00:22:40.578] in more to the resume so let me jump back to that [00:22:42.739] section [00:22:43.828] so you can create and keep track of [00:22:45.858] multiple resumes. You can see here. I've got quite [00:22:48.108] a few going here. [00:22:50.150] and [00:22:51.368] you often are creating [00:22:53.430] a resume [00:22:54.660] every time you apply for a job you'd be adjusting [00:22:57.118] a little bit depending on what the position is. So [00:22:59.150] it's a great way to, you know, keep all of that here [00:23:01.549] and also have a great looking [00:23:03.588] resume. There are tons of templates. I am not [00:23:05.848] this creatively inclined. I'm letting [00:23:07.868] the database kind of do the work to make it look [00:23:09.890] good for me. So let's [00:23:11.930] go ahead and take a look. So [00:23:14.289] creating a new one [00:23:16.250] is actually gonna ask you those same questions. [00:23:18.309] So do we want to upload an existing resume? [00:23:20.750] So if I've got one in word I want to work [00:23:22.828] from, I can upload that. [00:23:24.568] I can just completely start from scratch and [00:23:26.670] start filling in the fields here myself [00:23:29.078] or what I love is the use [00:23:31.368] sample content option. [00:23:33.630] This is gonna let me steal [00:23:36.318] my watch and put it that way. Let me borrow [00:23:38.880] text from prewritten resumes. [00:23:41.108] So if you use sample content [00:23:44.949] It's gonna open up and show you some of their popular [00:23:47.449] samples which you can take a look at and review. [00:23:49.809] You can also search those. So if I've held a job [00:23:52.209] as a bank teller [00:23:54.309] I can search on that and see if they've [00:23:56.368] got an example resume and they've got three. [00:23:59.500] and you can give it a little preview or [00:24:01.660] I'm just gonna go ahead and use this sample. [00:24:06.250] and it knows my name right? Because I have a user [00:24:08.400] account and pulled it from that. But here [00:24:10.750] it pulled in all that data [00:24:13.049] and where I know I struggle but I know [00:24:15.108] a lot of other people do too [00:24:17.199] Is this section here under work experience. [00:24:19.559] How do I describe my job [00:24:21.890] and if we've got a resume that's similar to [00:24:23.979] a position you've held, it's done a lot of that [00:24:26.059] work for you, you can of course edit all [00:24:28.078] of this. So if I needed [00:24:30.400] to add something else to this [00:24:32.890] and I'm just gonna say [00:24:34.769] E. T. M. Maintenance [00:24:36.920] no idea. but let's say [00:24:39.160] I can include that. Oh it looks like maybe you would borrow [00:24:41.439] this resume from someone who is maybe and [00:24:43.509] they spell check a little different. So the spell [00:24:45.640] check has popped up for me [00:24:47.759] and adjust that. [00:24:49.568] But you have this starting point [00:24:51.640] and I think starting from scratch. Maybe some [00:24:53.838] folks really you know would [00:24:56.199] rather do that and kind of get a maybe [00:24:58.410] a resume going that way but I really [00:25:00.539] appreciate having this data to work [00:25:02.689] from and adjust as needed. [00:25:05.189] and again it already makes it look [00:25:07.229] good. It puts it into a really nice [00:25:09.469] looking format but you'll see over on [00:25:11.578] the left, you have all these menu [00:25:13.709] options for things you can change. [00:25:15.848] And [00:25:17.420] If I go in to change template, this [00:25:19.608] is where I can find all those nice kind of really colorful. [00:25:23.500] resumes and a lot of them include [00:25:25.818] photos which I think is something [00:25:28.199] it is kind of, I feel like this goes back and forth [00:25:30.608] including a photo isn't always preferred, [00:25:32.799] so you don't have to, that [00:25:34.828] space just goes blank if you don't upload [00:25:36.949] an image. But I'll go with [00:25:39.049] one here like the look [00:25:41.269] at this one, [00:25:43.509] grab that and it just reformats it [00:25:45.568] for me [00:25:46.598] and I can change things too if I don't love [00:25:48.739] the green color here up in the top. [00:25:50.868] I have all the options for kind of editing [00:25:53.049] so I can switch that. Maybe I'll go with [00:25:55.160] a this [00:25:59.209] pink color there. [00:26:01.430] Really simple. I don't have to worry about [00:26:03.930] the formatting. I get all these options [00:26:06.088] for how I how I want to adjust. It [00:26:08.130] can change the fonts, can change [00:26:10.368] the [00:26:12.108] [00:26:13.719] margins and things like that as needed. [00:26:16.219] Again can always edit the text [00:26:18.799] and get rid of content entirely. So [00:26:20.900] if I don't want the [00:26:23.489] oh what was it? There was a little trash can here. I can [00:26:25.769] I can delete content. [00:26:28.309] and when you've got it the way you want it you [00:26:30.549] have the option to download it and [00:26:32.729] share it outside of the resource. So [00:26:34.939] we can download a P. D. F. Version, we can [00:26:37.009] download a word and that is still [00:26:39.189] in beta but it does a pretty nice job. [00:26:41.348] You do want to just kind of double check everything [00:26:43.680] looks good but the word [00:26:45.818] version looks pretty good. [00:26:48.130] You can also go choose to share it [00:26:50.469] and get a link for it. under [00:26:52.789] publish this will also appear [00:26:55.189] over. Let me go ahead and circle it on the screen [00:26:57.529] here under settings, you can do this in either [00:26:59.779] place under settings or share. [00:27:02.098] You're choosing kind of the privacy [00:27:04.309] level of this resume you've created [00:27:06.608] by default. The [00:27:08.650] resume is always [00:27:11.729] unlisted, [00:27:13.019] that is the most private [00:27:16.309] kind of level you can have [00:27:18.568] Oh no I'm sorry, you know what I apologize [00:27:21.078] folks, I'm forgetting when you choose to share, [00:27:23.509] You pick one of the sharing options. There are [00:27:25.549] two of them. Let me actually show you what I'm talking about under [00:27:27.769] settings. [00:27:29.039] When you go to settings you'll see where [00:27:31.309] your privacy is at currently. So [00:27:33.880] share you're preparing to share. So [00:27:35.920] it's giving you the sharing options under settings, [00:27:37.989] you can see where your privacy is at. [00:27:40.029] but also change it if you want it. So [00:27:42.549] sorry about that. So under privacy [00:27:44.689] export only is our [00:27:47.000] highest level of privacy meaning [00:27:49.338] I only have access to this. No one [00:27:51.469] else can find this resume. It lives [00:27:53.799] inside my account. I use download [00:27:56.660] to get it out as a P. D. F. [00:27:58.930] Or a word document but [00:28:00.759] it lives inside the resource and nobody [00:28:03.019] can get to it but me [00:28:04.910] that is by default, [00:28:07.078] if I switch though to unlisted or [00:28:09.118] public. Those are the two sharing options. [00:28:11.279] If I switch to unlisted. [00:28:13.279] What this does then is create [00:28:15.598] a link for the resume. [00:28:17.719] So this U. R. L. Here I'd be [00:28:19.818] able to include in a cover letter or [00:28:22.000] hand it wherever I need it to go. If I'm you [00:28:24.118] know filling out a form online or something [00:28:26.348] like that. I can I can put it there. [00:28:28.489] It's unlisted though meaning that [00:28:30.779] it's a shareable link but it's not out [00:28:32.868] on the web and searchable [00:28:35.299] right? If I switch though to [00:28:37.328] public this will publish [00:28:39.420] on the internet and folks searching on [00:28:41.539] search engines by my name would be able to [00:28:43.559] find this resume. [00:28:44.930] So it is a great way to kind of get your [00:28:47.170] name out there and make yourself discoverable. [00:28:49.910] Not everybody wants to do that [00:28:52.059] though. So that's why we've got the other options. So [00:28:54.140] public is kind of the most [00:28:56.529] public export only [00:28:58.759] is gonna be the most private only. You have access [00:29:01.000] to it and you have to choose to download it and [00:29:03.078] share it that way [00:29:04.618] and then unlisted is kind of that happy medium. [00:29:06.680] You can have an online version of the resume but [00:29:08.828] it's not searchable by search [00:29:11.039] engines. So [00:29:13.160] I since this is not true, I was never a bank [00:29:15.199] teller. I'm gonna make sure to leave that as export [00:29:17.549] only if I click save just to be safe [00:29:20.189] but it is a really handy way [00:29:22.539] to you know, in this kind of online world [00:29:24.750] where you know, [00:29:26.930] Often you're not even going somewhere for an interview, [00:29:29.189] you're doing it via zoom and it's great to [00:29:31.229] have these online tools to be able to share, throw [00:29:33.380] into a chat message, you know while you're [00:29:35.449] having your interview or again put it in a cover [00:29:37.709] letter or when you're submitting online [00:29:40.989] So [00:29:42.118] there are lots of other features here but [00:29:44.209] those are kind of the main ones I wanted to point [00:29:46.229] out, you can change up the look and feel [00:29:48.598] you can change your privacy [00:29:50.828] letter or privacy level. [00:29:55.180] All right, so we've got the same type of options under [00:29:57.459] cover letters. So I've got a few [00:29:59.618] going here. They're not quite as [00:30:01.739] extensive [00:30:03.759] assuming this often is gonna get, you know, pasted [00:30:05.969] right into an email or something but [00:30:08.259] you've got some options for cover letters [00:30:10.279] here too. [00:30:13.640] now resumes tend to come after [00:30:15.699] you've decided what kind of career you want. Right? [00:30:17.979] So also under career tools you've got [00:30:20.170] the option to find a career [00:30:22.469] and this offers a career assessment. [00:30:24.930] Oh sorry I think I've timed out. [00:30:27.259] Yeah. Sorry folks let me let me log back [00:30:29.539] in. oh wait [00:30:31.880] now I think men [00:30:35.160] try this again [00:30:39.348] Yeah there we go. So yeah look like [00:30:41.588] I timed out in the visual C. V. Tool [00:30:45.150] Are there sample practices I believe? [00:30:47.588] Let me double check. I'm gonna actually [00:30:49.890] use the search [00:30:53.660] Yes. Master The [00:30:55.670] practice prepare [00:30:58.118] pro exam which is not an exam [00:31:00.519] I'm familiar with but it looks like practice [00:31:02.900] practice two. [00:31:05.939] oh sorry that's the eBook so it automatically [00:31:08.269] wanted to download it for me. [00:31:12.430] and there we go practice test for the practice core [00:31:14.529] practice core exams. [00:31:16.900] Takes us right out. I'm [00:31:18.959] gonna yeah I was gonna say should [00:31:21.140] be right to the practice test so yes there are [00:31:25.390] thanks and let me know if you wanna dive into [00:31:27.439] those a little more [00:31:31.939] Ok so back to the career assessment, [00:31:34.250] there are four assessments [00:31:36.328] that are performed [00:31:37.838] and we would encourage folks to fill out all [00:31:40.140] four. [00:31:41.818] If they can uh, you [00:31:44.078] know, if you're gonna kind of sit down and commit to this, [00:31:46.140] we hope you'll kind of leave enough time to do all four. [00:31:48.160] But technically you only have to take the [00:31:50.180] first two which I've done here [00:31:52.410] to get matched up with careers. [00:31:55.309] So as interests and values [00:31:57.420] both have to be completed [00:32:00.559] Oh you're welcome man, no problem. [00:32:03.400] the tests though [00:32:05.689] I [00:32:06.818] I find really engaging a lot [00:32:08.989] of career assessments. Are would you [00:32:11.039] like to do this job? Yes. No. Maybe [00:32:13.989] really basic what I like [00:32:16.078] about these is they ask different [00:32:18.390] questions like four different sections, [00:32:20.890] not just your interest but what do you what do you like [00:32:22.949] your workplace to be like? [00:32:24.640] and also the way they've done them is kind [00:32:26.759] of engaging. There are of course going to be some multiple [00:32:29.088] choice involved. But this is, [00:32:31.118] you know, asking on these cards, what are the least [00:32:33.598] important um, [00:32:35.709] uh, cards here for my ideal [00:32:37.779] organization. [00:32:38.949] and then it will ask you what are your most important [00:32:41.328] and all of this feeds into [00:32:43.368] the ultimate careers, it's recommending for [00:32:45.568] you. So again I would encourage [00:32:47.670] folks to fill out all four. I'm gonna [00:32:49.868] exit though this [00:32:52.098] oh how my journey wanna be under assessments [00:32:54.199] I would encourage folks to fill [00:32:56.279] out all four but it is it is not required [00:32:58.640] just to have to take the first two and then [00:33:00.709] once it's matched you up [00:33:04.809] it ranks them by these are [00:33:06.828] probably gonna be kind of familiar [00:33:09.519] [00:33:10.799] you know, kind of industry and subject areas. [00:33:13.170] It's looking at where you'd be [00:33:15.180] strongest by subject area [00:33:17.410] and then showing off to the right kind of where you [00:33:19.880] where you land in some of these now, you're [00:33:21.969] not limited to things that you were strong in, [00:33:24.029] you can of course always view all careers [00:33:26.529] and explore them. [00:33:28.250] And as you go in, I'm going to say health [00:33:30.410] sciences [00:33:32.088] and you're looking at these. It's letting you know [00:33:34.328] whether you wear a strong match or not. If [00:33:36.338] you look over on the left you can kind of [00:33:38.410] break them down by different areas. [00:33:40.430] So Say I'm strong in [00:33:42.500] health science but of course it's a lot of schooling to [00:33:44.578] become a psychiatrist. Maybe that's [00:33:46.689] my plan. But what can [00:33:48.709] I do in the meantime, you know, I've got a high school [00:33:50.900] degree, what can I do to, you know, maybe [00:33:53.019] still work in health sciences so you can adjust [00:33:56.348] and choose the education level and [00:33:58.559] or an experience level to see what [00:34:00.618] what might be a good fit while you're going [00:34:02.660] to school. [00:34:03.939] You can also [00:34:06.660] Isolate and use the military [00:34:08.719] crosswalk tool, which I think [00:34:10.860] this is great. I know you know that [00:34:13.159] military base is in New Jersey. So this could [00:34:15.269] be really helpful for folks who may be out of [00:34:17.329] the military. They're looking for what to do next. [00:34:21.309] You can get matched up with [00:34:23.610] putting in your codes and let [00:34:25.708] me go ahead and I had these are things I had to [00:34:27.728] look up [00:34:29.809] Or someone who's in a career is probably [00:34:31.989] going to or been in the military [00:34:34.208] is gonna know these codes. [00:34:37.228] And you can get matched up. So a 255 [00:34:39.489] a is an information systems technician [00:34:41.860] in the army and I can get matched up with [00:34:44.000] what careers would go strongly with that experience. [00:34:47.340] so I, I wish [00:34:49.780] this was a tool you could get to before [00:34:52.128] you perform the assessment. I wish it was [00:34:54.168] elsewhere. But you do have to go through [00:34:56.478] and again answer those first two assessments [00:34:58.590] and then once you get to your careers list [00:35:01.739] And just of course make any choice here. [00:35:04.199] You'll then can get to that military crossword. So [00:35:06.320] it's a couple extra clicks [00:35:08.500] you're gonna have to go through to find [00:35:10.679] it but hopefully down the road that'll be offered [00:35:13.159] standalone so you can get to it from elsewhere. [00:35:15.599] But in the meantime that's how you find that very [00:35:17.860] handy. and then for each [00:35:19.978] of these jobs I'm just gonna go ahead and jump into one, [00:35:22.059] you get the a good overview. So you [00:35:24.199] know what are the you know kind of daily tasks like [00:35:26.699] what programs or [00:35:28.739] degrees do you have to hold what abilities, [00:35:31.110] what skills, you know that type of thing [00:35:33.128] over on the right, you can find average [00:35:35.179] salary and it will even let you kind [00:35:37.280] of look out [00:35:39.228] and see what's out there [00:35:41.309] right now for astronauts. [00:35:43.360] Oh no, astronomer astronomers is what, pick [00:35:45.590] all those astronauts for a minute. [00:35:48.449] you can even see the outlooks over the next 10 [00:35:50.530] years. Is this career growing? Is it shrinking? [00:35:52.769] Looks like we're astronomers, not [00:35:55.458] super promising. But [00:35:58.228] some other tools as well. [00:36:02.389] and then there is actually a job search [00:36:04.530] tool here and when [00:36:06.599] you come in you can actually filter [00:36:09.188] by the data that it's pulled from your assessments [00:36:11.809] to so jobs match strength [00:36:13.849] and then that type of thing. [00:36:15.469] But let's say we're looking for [00:36:18.840] Give me here, I've got a uh, [00:36:25.260] Sorry folks, I don't have my note for what I was gonna [00:36:27.369] search here. So I'm gonna go ahead and [00:36:32.688] and put in [00:36:36.668] in a moment. We'll see how we do. [00:36:39.869] go so still tying in with your content [00:36:42.250] from the assessments [00:36:43.978] And here we have found some jobs. Now this [00:36:46.030] is also gonna actually be a partner tool [00:36:48.168] when I click out. [00:36:49.869] choose to learn more. We're actually [00:36:52.059] crawling out it indeed Dot com [00:36:54.110] to grab these open positions, which is [00:36:56.269] a tool in itself. It is a crawler [00:36:58.289] that goes out, folks can of course post things here, [00:37:00.539] but they also go out and crawl different websites. [00:37:03.090] So like, you know [00:37:04.769] employment offices or. [00:37:07.728] even just like corporate websites that post open [00:37:09.909] positions, things like that and bring them all back [00:37:12.000] here. And then of course indeed, dot [00:37:14.019] com has its own, you know, kind of tools where [00:37:16.039] you can, you know, keep track of your resume and the jobs [00:37:18.219] you've applied for and things like that, but [00:37:20.559] really great site. So [00:37:22.728] it also could be something familiar if someone is already [00:37:24.889] looking for a job. Indeed is something they might already [00:37:27.019] be using. [00:37:29.840] So lots of paths when you come into [00:37:32.059] the assessment tool, you get to the job search, [00:37:34.199] you get to that military crosswalk, you get to of [00:37:36.280] course the overviews for jobs [00:37:38.320] and careers. So lots of good stuff [00:37:40.619] there, just [00:37:43.079] checking our time we're doing ok again do [00:37:45.179] feel free to ask questions [00:37:47.840] We gotta come back close out some of these tabs [00:37:51.590] under explore careers. You'll also find [00:37:54.110] under career tools, the career [00:37:56.239] advice section. And this is kind of run [00:37:58.369] like a course as well. It's almost tutorials [00:38:01.059] for all of these, you know different [00:38:04.329] areas of looking for a career [00:38:06.389] or a job. So career changes, [00:38:08.418] transitioning out of the military and you [00:38:10.489] do kind of go through it like of course since you have completed [00:38:12.949] some of these or haven't completed, but [00:38:14.958] have started them [00:38:16.969] So lots of against [00:38:18.978] support and certainly these [00:38:21.260] are [00:38:24.369] you know, con things you might cover [00:38:26.860] on the shelves in the library, you know, lots of books [00:38:28.929] about these content. What I like about these is [00:38:31.010] they're fairly short, they're a little quick to go [00:38:33.059] through [00:38:35.148] you know and just get some good pointers for all [00:38:37.208] of these in this case salary [00:38:39.239] negotiations. [00:38:42.639] So lots of good stuff here. [00:38:46.050] And then last thing we'll take a look at find a school. [00:38:48.570] So we've broken these down by college [00:38:51.449] and graduate school. So if we go into [00:38:53.599] college and scholarship search [00:38:56.260] that's what these will be tied to. So distance learning [00:38:58.570] for you know two and four year institutions. [00:39:01.030] Career colleges search undergraduate [00:39:03.469] nursing school. There's a graduate nursing search [00:39:06.010] in the graduate program. So [00:39:08.039] just kind of breakdown by where you're at or [00:39:10.119] where you're looking to be I guess in that [00:39:12.340] state of education [00:39:14.909] And again the help for lots [00:39:17.269] of financial tools here. So the scholarship [00:39:19.489] search as well as f on financial [00:39:21.610] aid advice, a quiz. [00:39:23.969] That's a good stuff. [00:39:25.360] We take a look at the undergraduate school search. [00:39:29.260] basically, if you're, if you've used [00:39:31.438] one of the Peterson's college books, that's [00:39:33.898] what we're gonna be browsing here. Just of course, [00:39:35.909] lots of different ways to filter it. You can certainly just [00:39:38.090] search by a school if you want to see their info. [00:39:40.918] But the filters over on the left will [00:39:42.978] let you kind of get a list of schools [00:39:45.148] going maybe to apply to. So let's say we're looking [00:39:47.590] with, I love that in state tuition. [00:39:49.648] Let me see, we'll choose New Jersey. [00:39:52.719] and you can break down by area [00:39:54.780] of study school, type, average G. [00:39:56.820] P. A. Things like that to get in. [00:39:59.320] It is I love the area [00:40:01.398] of study because it's a long list, [00:40:03.519] but you can also just kind of type, [00:40:06.438] and get to those areas [00:40:09.168] you might need. So I kind of scroll [00:40:11.349] a bit here, grab for [00:40:13.110] biology degree [00:40:15.469] and as we select over on the right [00:40:17.570] it's just kind of filtering and showing the schools [00:40:19.869] that match so you can choose public [00:40:22.079] or private two and 44 year [00:40:24.438] missing difficulties school size [00:40:26.800] setting. [00:40:27.750] All of these options are available. [00:40:31.320] and then once you want to go in and explore [00:40:33.438] a school, go ahead and grab say Saint Elizabeth [00:40:35.820] University, [00:40:38.000] Again, this is what you can, you know, expect to [00:40:40.099] find in the books, just breaking down all these [00:40:42.179] areas majors and degrees offer, what the [00:40:44.289] student body makeup is, tuition and fees, [00:40:46.860] Athletics faculty, [00:40:49.250] you've got all of the those [00:40:51.398] kind of details to help find the perfect school. [00:40:57.500] All righty, so a couple of things under [00:40:59.619] this college search. [00:41:02.269] And so go ahead and let me jump into the graduate school one as [00:41:04.389] well. So M. B. A. Programs. [00:41:07.208] [00:41:08.300] I love the distance learning. A lot of folks like to [00:41:10.389] do their degrees that way particularly [00:41:12.969] for a graduate program but then also [00:41:15.148] the the F. F. S. A. Help. So again multiple things [00:41:17.369] can show up. the scholarship [00:41:19.708] searches I think are really valuable. We [00:41:21.728] have again one for graduate and undergraduate [00:41:24.360] They work really like the school search. Does [00:41:26.619] you just choose over on the left? [00:41:28.659] You know, maybe we're looking for something [00:41:30.800] that's tied to the state we're gonna be studying [00:41:32.938] in. We [00:41:35.000] can isolate to those, see if they're a good fit. [00:41:37.260] So [00:41:38.030] great way to be able to keep track of [00:41:40.639] or sorry, not keep track but to find, you know, scholarships [00:41:43.239] to apply for. [00:41:45.599] also under find a school, the college [00:41:47.809] planning center. So if you're with say [00:41:49.958] a high school or a public library where [00:41:52.128] you find you're you know offering a lot [00:41:54.188] of support to students and parents. This is a great [00:41:56.289] place to kind of start with them. So [00:41:58.559] great tool like if you're having an open house this [00:42:00.739] fall at at school or [00:42:03.019] some sort of you know program around [00:42:05.179] [00:42:06.128] college help and applying at [00:42:08.429] the public library. [00:42:09.989] it brings everything together. We've got [00:42:12.349] the advice tools, we've got the different [00:42:14.750] test prep links, we have a lot [00:42:17.099] of things all pulled into one place. [00:42:19.168] I love these checklists. So if I've got [00:42:21.469] you know a nephew who's going into [00:42:23.829] 10th grade, what should [00:42:25.860] he be doing? What should his parents be doing? [00:42:29.099] just these quick checklists for, [00:42:31.550] you know, tasks relating to getting ready [00:42:33.860] for being out of school basically. [00:42:36.070] whether you're heading back in or or heading [00:42:38.219] into a career. So really great [00:42:40.780] content there. [00:42:42.938] And that leads me to some of the tools [00:42:45.099] I want to talk about around discovering [00:42:47.188] this, your, your patrons, your students discovering [00:42:49.639] this resource in the library. So [00:42:52.429] any questions about anything here [00:42:54.760] in the resource itself, [00:42:58.289] I kind of nothing in the chat in the Q. [00:43:00.409] And A. All, it can always come back. So I'm gonna pop back [00:43:02.478] to the power point for a minute. [00:43:05.059] So Discovery we [00:43:07.148] want to get these users in this resource [00:43:09.539] right. So we offer a couple [00:43:11.719] tools [00:43:12.829] mentioned the subject hubs. [00:43:15.039] So those are the pages where [00:43:17.119] if I come back this would be a subject hub. [00:43:19.188] The college planning center. [00:43:21.070] If I go in under college [00:43:23.458] prep and choose a. C. T. [00:43:27.489] This is a subject to [00:43:29.869] What we've done [00:43:31.489] is create, [00:43:33.449] sorry. Then back to my power point, there we go, [00:43:35.570] create Mark Records. [00:43:37.659] For those subject tops, [00:43:40.360] we've also created direct U. R. L. [00:43:42.648] S. For those subject tops. [00:43:44.639] And what you can do is [00:43:47.309] use those U. R. L. S. To promote [00:43:49.699] say if your library has a twitter or facebook [00:43:51.989] page you can you know embed them in a tweet [00:43:54.119] or a facebook post you can put [00:43:56.300] them in a newsletter. The library sends [00:43:58.579] out what a lot of libraries [00:44:00.878] have done. Is taking those U. R. L. [00:44:03.273] S. And turn them into Q. R. Codes [00:44:05.514] and then place them around, [00:44:07.534] you know all the test prep, books in the library, [00:44:09.635] the college books in the library. [00:44:11.875] So folks can quick snap that with their phone [00:44:13.894] and they're left right to the S. A. T. Subject [00:44:16.184] hub. And Peterson's test and career [00:44:18.235] prep. we've also created [00:44:20.840] Mark Records for the subject hubs [00:44:22.969] and the ebooks. So folks come [00:44:25.119] into your catalog, [00:44:27.320] Search on the practice exam, [00:44:29.909] they would land right from that mark record [00:44:32.438] in either the ebook or the subject [00:44:34.530] tab, whichever you, you know, whichever mark [00:44:36.659] record you choose. Oh or both. [00:44:38.918] So let me show you where to find these. [00:44:41.329] All right, so [00:44:43.659] We offer a support site [00:44:46.000] for New Jersey [00:44:47.820] and I'm gonna I've got this on a slide in a minute [00:44:49.978] but it's support dot Gail dot com slash N. [00:44:52.119] J. S. L. [00:44:54.679] and when you get there, the first thing it's gonna [00:44:56.708] do is ask you to choose your library [00:44:59.099] from a list. [00:45:01.099] And if you don't see your library [00:45:03.168] do let us know. We've got a request here. You can of course [00:45:05.378] reach out to someone at gale. [00:45:07.539] But hopefully we've got everybody. I'm just gonna grab [00:45:09.699] one of the first ones here [00:45:11.679] and then what it does is customize our [00:45:13.699] our support site to your library. [00:45:16.050] So first you see your link so there's your [00:45:18.260] your U. R. L. To get into the database [00:45:20.320] as a whole and those and I'm sorry I shouldn't [00:45:22.340] mention this at the top but we are using [00:45:24.559] geo authentication there. So if folks are [00:45:26.628] in New Jersey they click the link and they're [00:45:28.789] in as long as we can, you know see their [00:45:30.869] location as long as they allow that. If not of course [00:45:33.208] there are other authentication methods we can work [00:45:35.219] with but [00:45:36.898] right there. I've got the link into the Resource [00:45:39.039] and if I click on the database name [00:45:41.458] it will take me to the product support page. [00:45:44.239] And we've got database [00:45:46.719] icons if you need them. But here are those Mark [00:45:48.909] Records I mentioned. So you can download [00:45:51.039] Mark Records for the ebooks [00:45:53.349] and then if you've done that before. [00:45:55.659] Maybe if this was a resource you were subscribed to before [00:45:58.280] the state picked it up we also [00:46:00.550] have just content updates. So here's the [00:46:02.619] last set of mark records we created [00:46:04.750] for the content that's been added to the database [00:46:06.849] since that that full list. So you [00:46:08.929] can get just the updates. But then there are [00:46:10.978] the subject head records. [00:46:13.840] and there's other good stuff here. We'll come back and [00:46:15.889] look it up but it kind of talking to more about Discovery. [00:46:18.378] I wanna also show you [00:46:20.938] if from product support they're at the top [00:46:23.228] of the page up in the banner I select [00:46:25.469] direct U. R. L. S. [00:46:29.128] It gives you your link for the database. [00:46:31.389] But [00:46:34.039] if I click on this tab this button here, [00:46:36.260] Test and Career Prep [00:46:39.860] they are the subject hub U. [00:46:41.969] R. L. S. So if we've got [00:46:44.139] an a p study section in the library [00:46:46.969] I can grab this U. R. L. [00:46:50.208] and [00:46:51.539] create a Q. R. Code out of it. Put [00:46:53.849] it where that a p study section is. [00:46:57.309] Kids can click boom they land right [00:46:59.449] in the resource on the A. P. A. [00:47:01.659] P. Subject hub. [00:47:03.110] And of course you can do that for any of these so that [00:47:05.148] college [00:47:06.978] planning center. You have [00:47:09.539] the LSAT the adam [00:47:11.918] all of these [00:47:14.389] Subject types. You can take people to [00:47:18.250] So great way to point them into [00:47:20.309] the resources [00:47:22.708] now. The other good stuff on this page and [00:47:24.739] I scroll back up to the top [00:47:26.728] marketing materials, we've got [00:47:28.849] bookmarks, we've got [00:47:31.208] social media posts ready to go. [00:47:33.329] We've got [00:47:34.809] newsletter blurbs. [00:47:37.059] You can use press release type [00:47:39.159] things [00:47:40.559] all ready to go. [00:47:42.938] I grab these images, put them [00:47:45.010] on an Instagram, put them on a Facebook post. [00:47:48.228] There are print materials too. [00:47:50.369] You can usually customize those and put your library [00:47:52.708] link on them. We'll take a look at the bookmark here. [00:47:54.849] I'm pretty sure you can do that. [00:47:56.889] These yes add your logo here [00:47:59.829] Your link on the on the other side [00:48:03.260] Hi so maybe just your website not the database [00:48:05.559] where all those are too long. But [00:48:08.510] You know ways to promote the resource [00:48:11.550] There's also lots of good training material [00:48:14.699] under the training center. So tips for using [00:48:16.949] the database any I'll just [00:48:19.019] browse by product and we'll grab all of it. [00:48:21.438] [00:48:24.010] you know, we have a presentation if you're gonna go [00:48:26.059] out and again, maybe you're running a program [00:48:28.309] at the library around college preparedness. [00:48:31.128] We've got a PowerPoint ready about this [00:48:33.269] resource. We tend to [00:48:35.429] think we want to give you more than you might [00:48:37.559] need. So there are a lot of slides you can of course pair [00:48:39.590] that down to just what you want can [00:48:41.760] customize it, but it's again, no need to recreate [00:48:44.148] the wheel. We've got a lot of this stuff ready to go [00:48:46.659] handouts quick, you know, tip sheet [00:48:48.889] about how to create an account. [00:48:51.829] and using the Resource, we've got some videos [00:48:53.918] as well, so [00:48:55.539] lots of good stuff here. And then [00:48:57.559] we also specifically if I go [00:48:59.570] ahead under the once we're again logged [00:49:01.750] into the account, it knows we're with New [00:49:04.128] Jersey State Library and using the [00:49:06.648] Jersey clicks program. If I go [00:49:08.728] under training there, that's where you'll see [00:49:11.539] content specific for New Jersey. So any [00:49:13.679] upcoming webinars or ones that we've [00:49:15.728] offered specifically for New Jersey [00:49:18.219] and then I've also put some tutorials and [00:49:20.418] additional materials here, but you [00:49:22.500] got to keep track of what we've done specifically [00:49:24.579] for New Jersey training on this resource on this [00:49:26.659] page as well. So last week [00:49:28.769] we offered a session about getting usage statistics [00:49:30.909] for the resource and using gale's [00:49:33.059] app. Access my library. So that [00:49:35.188] recordings here as well as the one we did this [00:49:37.208] summer to kind of introduce the resource. [00:49:40.360] So lots of good stuff there. [00:49:44.168] So let me pop back to the power point [00:49:46.418] we'll start wrapping up here [00:49:49.260] So again we want you to be able to rely on your [00:49:51.398] Gale team. [00:49:52.909] and we have [00:49:54.969] oh sorry, I didn't know if we might need this [00:49:57.119] slide. Let me go ahead and I'll just kind of fill everything [00:49:59.188] in. We did we used it this summer [00:50:01.369] just there were more questions about [00:50:03.530] access and things like that for [00:50:05.550] the resource. So I'll just kind of put it up here [00:50:07.668] for me. see if this would be helpful for anybody. But [00:50:10.070] at this point if you were already subscribed [00:50:12.978] to the Resource when Jersey clicks [00:50:15.079] picked it up you should have heard from your file representative [00:50:18.050] About a credit I think [00:50:20.329] everybody really has gotten set up with [00:50:22.449] their access U. R. L. [00:50:24.628] S. But again you can always get those through the support site [00:50:26.849] so of course feel free to ask [00:50:28.869] any questions. [00:50:30.898] And then again the support site, I was just using [00:50:33.119] support dot G dot com slash N. J. S. [00:50:35.208] L. S. Where you'll find all that good stuff [00:50:38.780] And then of course when you want to talk to a person [00:50:41.219] you can reach out to your Gale team. So again [00:50:43.360] I'm your trainer, happy to hear from you. [00:50:45.418] You'll get an email again around this time [00:50:47.458] tomorrow with my follow up it will [00:50:49.639] have all these email addresses and our number [00:50:51.739] and everything as well as some other good stuff. [00:50:54.039] But you can always reach out to gale. Your account [00:50:56.378] rep. Is of course always happy to chat with you [00:50:58.869] customer success managers [00:51:01.389] at Gale are really there to help you be successful with [00:51:03.478] the resources so they can give you ideas for promotion. [00:51:06.478] They can walk you through, signing up for usage reports. [00:51:09.300] They're probably the best person to get to know at gale. [00:51:11.780] once you've you know got access to [00:51:13.889] to Gale content. They're an excellent resource. [00:51:16.639] And actually when you go to the support site and sign [00:51:18.760] in, it will let you know who your C. S. M. Is [00:51:20.840] because they specialize by library [00:51:22.969] types. So if you're with a K. 12 [00:51:25.019] school you're with a academic library, [00:51:27.820] that's who they work with all the time. [00:51:30.000] So they kind of are prepared for that [00:51:32.878] type tips questions you might have or needs you might [00:51:35.010] have. So. [00:51:36.010] this email address though will get routed to [00:51:38.110] the right person for your library [00:51:39.969] and then of course tech support is available. Should [00:51:42.039] we have, you know, any issues with the database, [00:51:44.168] you can always reach out to them. the [00:51:46.239] 800 number or of course we've got their [00:51:48.300] email address there too. [00:51:50.610] So with that I will say thank you. [00:51:52.628] Keep an eye on our calendars for more sessions, [00:51:55.070] let us know what you'd like to see in terms [00:51:57.378] of training for this resource. [00:51:59.510] We are that's how we, you know, ended up with [00:52:01.590] the usage stats and access [00:52:03.780] my library app. It was a request from [00:52:06.090] the first training session we offered. So let [00:52:08.320] us know when you leave the webinar today, it [00:52:10.369] will I'll prompt you to fill out our survey. [00:52:12.445] So you can certainly give your feedback there too. But [00:52:14.523] I'm gonna stick around here and see if there are any [00:52:16.554] questions or feedback and [00:52:18.603] we'll take those but if you're [00:52:20.655] all set, thanks so much for tuning in today. [00:52:22.885] I hope this was helpful and has [00:52:25.155] given you a good basis to kind of start [00:52:27.554] using the resource and spreading the word [00:52:29.824] with your users about it. So thanks [00:52:32.003] everybody for tuning in.
