[00:00:05.059] Thank you again everyone for being on the line [00:00:07.280] today. Today, we're talking about teaching [00:00:09.659] emotional essential life skills with [00:00:12.028] Gale in Context Elementary. My [00:00:14.250] name is Amber Winters and I am your [00:00:16.379] Gale training consultant for the day. [00:00:20.318] I have a quick agenda here. So first I just [00:00:22.350] want to briefly go over what Gall and Context [00:00:24.518] Elementary is to make sure we're all on the same [00:00:26.690] page. [00:00:27.780] We're going to walk through the content for the majority [00:00:30.170] of our time today though. So we're going to see where [00:00:32.429] we can find this great social, emotional [00:00:34.917] learning and life skills content. [00:00:37.329] We're going to talk about how you can utilize [00:00:39.847] that content. So some different strategies [00:00:42.179] when we're talking about the different content types [00:00:44.319] or the different tools within the resource, how you can [00:00:46.408] utilize those and leverage them in your classroom, [00:00:49.618] we're going to talk about some support materials just [00:00:51.709] to give you some extra inspiration. So [00:00:53.810] if you are planning on getting this information [00:00:55.847] out to your students, we have a lot of [00:00:57.929] premade material that can help you out with that. [00:01:00.539] And then at the end of the session, we should have [00:01:02.548] time for any questions, but feel free to put them [00:01:04.698] into the Q and A. As we move along [00:01:06.858] today, I should be able to answer them kind [00:01:08.870] of throughout the session. You shouldn't have to wait until the very end. [00:01:11.260] And then I have some wrap up contact information [00:01:13.698] for you at the very end as well. [00:01:15.900] So let's go ahead and just jump right in here. So, first [00:01:18.209] off Galen context elementary, if [00:01:20.527] you're new to it, if it's been a while is [00:01:22.948] you're going to be your resource for your K five [00:01:25.180] students. And it [00:01:26.438] includes quite a wide variety of content [00:01:28.489] everywhere from reference works [00:01:30.519] which we call book articles and ga context [00:01:32.539] elementary to make them a little bit more inviting [00:01:34.854] to newspapers and magazines. We have a great [00:01:37.093] set of images and video files [00:01:39.275] as well as different biographies and things like that. [00:01:41.704] And this is cross curricular. So today, of course, [00:01:43.954] we're focused on that social emotional learning [00:01:46.253] kind of section of the resource. [00:01:48.775] You will find information on science, [00:01:50.973] social studies [00:01:52.793] English [00:01:54.598] people, the world. It's [00:01:56.650] very, very cross curricular, art and music. [00:01:59.039] You'll find quite a bit of content for that as [00:02:01.120] well. And within this platform, we [00:02:03.188] do have both search and browse capabilities. [00:02:05.290] We're going to spend our time browsing [00:02:07.299] today. So you can see how easy it is to [00:02:09.568] really point and click down to the information that you [00:02:11.649] need, but we do have both [00:02:13.938] and our content we're going to take a look at today are [00:02:16.117] going to be great for Bell Ringers [00:02:18.139] for station learning. If you're planning on setting [00:02:20.199] up stations, it's great to [00:02:22.500] either print off of this resource or [00:02:24.520] to just have this resource set open [00:02:26.710] in a station for students. It's really easy for them [00:02:28.800] to navigate independently. [00:02:31.188] Also, of course, as you could imagine, [00:02:33.389] great for project research. That's a lot [00:02:35.460] of times what we think of when we think about this resource. [00:02:37.867] But there's so much more than just project [00:02:40.050] research, also great for group discussions [00:02:42.449] and things like that. [00:02:44.000] It especially comes in handy if you have this [00:02:46.258] link to a learning management system [00:02:48.300] or if you have access to Google, Google [00:02:50.579] classroom, you can actually send content [00:02:52.788] directly from this platform to wherever [00:02:55.139] you're instructing your students. So [00:02:57.188] that just gives you another layer of connectivity [00:02:59.399] with this resource, you'll really be able to get [00:03:01.628] it into the, the hands of your students really [00:03:03.688] simply. [00:03:06.348] So again, today, we're talking about the different [00:03:08.429] emotional and social essential [00:03:10.490] life skills that we want to teach [00:03:12.520] our students. So we're going to be [00:03:14.527] using the topic tree navigation today [00:03:16.617] when we do jump into the resource and [00:03:18.800] this is going to move students forward [00:03:20.929] just point, see a clicking. So this is really great. [00:03:23.044] Again, if you're maybe having them work independently [00:03:25.675] or if they're working at home and you want them to access [00:03:27.723] this content, you don't need to worry about them [00:03:29.813] building their own search terms, which they may not [00:03:31.824] be ready for just yet. They can point [00:03:33.875] and click and narrow it down to exactly what they're looking [00:03:35.954] for. Specifically [00:03:38.149] when we're talking about our emotional and [00:03:40.210] social learning information that's [00:03:42.538] all found within our health topic. We've kind [00:03:44.668] of included all of that there. So not [00:03:47.079] only personal health, so physical and mental, [00:03:49.149] but also relationship health. We've kind of all [00:03:51.240] included that right into our health category [00:03:54.110] and that is found right on the home page. So your [00:03:56.128] students will be able to immediately see where they need [00:03:58.179] to click into. [00:03:59.378] And once they do click into that health topic, you'll see, [00:04:01.550] we've added another layer of [00:04:03.679] point and click selection to [00:04:05.908] our topic trees where they're going to be able to narrow down [00:04:08.438] even further. So they're in this health [00:04:10.520] section, but maybe they want to learn about getting [00:04:12.800] along with each other or maybe they're more [00:04:14.878] concerned about their emotions and kind of how [00:04:16.920] they're feeling internally. [00:04:18.807] They'll be able to find all of that content and [00:04:21.209] you'll be able to find all of that content right? [00:04:23.329] In this really simple and easy to navigate [00:04:25.608] topic tree [00:04:26.858] and each of these topics are broken down into [00:04:28.987] topic pages as well. We'll take a look at [00:04:31.038] that in the resource. They really organize [00:04:33.367] everything we have available for students. They're going to get [00:04:35.437] a nice topic overview. If we have [00:04:37.528] book articles, they'll see those, they'll see images, [00:04:39.627] they'll see related topics. It's [00:04:41.798] a really nice one stop shop [00:04:44.048] for whatever you're planning on doing in your classroom. [00:04:48.750] So let's go and take a look. Let's see how we can [00:04:50.838] use this content, how we can find it. [00:04:54.290] All that good stuff. I haven't seen questions [00:04:56.350] pop up here [00:04:58.737] um in the Q and A but I will [00:05:00.750] pass for just one second here. Are there any questions [00:05:02.970] about just that very brief overview [00:05:05.079] we just touched on? [00:05:08.778] OK, I don't see any. So let's go ahead [00:05:10.920] and get started then. So this is our Gain Context [00:05:13.220] elementary home page. I'm [00:05:15.269] sure most of you are already familiar. [00:05:17.470] So go ahead, let's go ahead and scroll down here. [00:05:19.588] And as I mentioned, we're stopping to today, we're starting [00:05:21.660] today at our health section. That's where we're going to [00:05:23.670] find all of that social and emotional [00:05:25.858] learning content. [00:05:27.459] So when I click into health here, [00:05:29.389] I'm just taking to my second level of my topic [00:05:31.720] tree. So again, we saw this on my slide. [00:05:34.069] This is giving me more options to see exactly [00:05:36.420] what I'm looking for. [00:05:38.319] So let's today. Um Let's worry about [00:05:40.420] getting along with others. Maybe that's our, you know, that we're [00:05:42.439] starting here. [00:05:43.889] So once I jump down to that next level of [00:05:45.980] content now is we're going to find [00:05:48.108] some really specific topics here. [00:05:50.119] You'll see things like body language, bullying, [00:05:52.769] different relationships that we're talking [00:05:54.959] about to understanding others. But what [00:05:57.048] I want to point out on this page [00:05:59.088] is this, I wonder question down [00:06:01.139] here at the bottom. These are really [00:06:03.410] excellent for Bell Ringers. [00:06:05.699] You can either copy this question and, you know, post [00:06:07.987] it yourself or you can have your students [00:06:10.230] pull up the resource on [00:06:12.278] their computers or their desks and they can [00:06:14.379] take a look at this, I wonder they can write out their [00:06:16.389] answer [00:06:17.369] and they can hit this find out. So maybe [00:06:19.459] they want to answer first or maybe they want to find [00:06:21.677] out first. But when they select, find [00:06:23.798] out it pulls them [00:06:25.987] forward to this page, whatever page is related [00:06:28.189] to the question [00:06:29.480] and they'll be able to read through and [00:06:31.528] answer that question. [00:06:33.439] So a really simple way to get them engaged [00:06:35.720] with the content. It's right there [00:06:38.230] on the bottom of that page for them [00:06:40.189] and it does change periodically. So I [00:06:42.209] do suggest um having all [00:06:44.290] of your students sign in at the same time and taking [00:06:46.329] a look at the same time. I think it's especially [00:06:48.790] helpful just to have it on your front board. [00:06:50.829] So you have your smart board, you're projecting [00:06:53.170] to whatever you're projecting to have this [00:06:55.290] pulled up and your students will be able to answer [00:06:57.899] and you can even find out together what's [00:06:59.939] what different answers are available for them. [00:07:03.660] Well, let's go ahead and click into one of these topics [00:07:05.759] here. We'll work as a team [00:07:08.040] today. That's always a, a [00:07:10.199] difficult seat when [00:07:12.250] we're talking about elementary kiddos is getting [00:07:14.298] them to start working in healthy teams. [00:07:16.319] So here we are, this is [00:07:18.329] our topic page. So I want [00:07:20.519] to mention that I can actually get a link directly [00:07:22.899] to this topic page. I can actually [00:07:25.108] get a link to any page within this resource. [00:07:27.160] So if I want to just [00:07:29.319] start students off on their learning on this [00:07:31.379] page, maybe I don't want them clicking all the way through [00:07:33.540] the resource. I know what content I content [00:07:35.920] I want them to see and I want them to get there quickly. [00:07:38.987] I can use this, get link of top here, [00:07:41.028] my toolbar [00:07:42.778] and I can get a persistent URL to this page. [00:07:45.689] So I can really easily copy and paste [00:07:47.709] this maybe in a discussion board, [00:07:49.959] maybe on a syllabus. If you're going to have [00:07:52.269] students utilizing this in a project, [00:07:54.778] I could even, you know, send it out to parents. [00:07:56.869] Maybe I want parents to take a look at this page [00:07:58.980] and help their students at home. [00:08:00.949] I can use this, get link and get a link to any page. [00:08:04.209] So back me up just quickly if I decided, [00:08:06.850] um I wanted to jump back to this option [00:08:09.160] here. I wanted them to see all of the different topics [00:08:11.689] related to getting along with others. [00:08:14.250] I can be on this page again, [00:08:16.540] use that link in the same spot. [00:08:18.730] I know they can be bumped here [00:08:20.769] and this may be great if you want students to find their [00:08:22.910] own topic. [00:08:24.449] So if you want them to start exploring on their own, maybe they're going [00:08:26.649] to be working in groups, each group is going to [00:08:28.689] take an individual topic and [00:08:30.869] then they're going to come together and share out after [00:08:32.918] or again. If you're planning on doing something like [00:08:35.009] stations, you can have this pulled forward [00:08:37.399] just again, a really nice way to get this content [00:08:39.599] out to your students. But let's stick with [00:08:41.658] working as a team here. [00:08:44.440] So just briefly this topic page, I'm gonna [00:08:46.557] point out some of the key features before we jump [00:08:48.778] right in here. So you'll see, we get some quick [00:08:50.950] facts about whatever topic we're looking [00:08:53.009] at. And then underneath, we see all of the [00:08:55.057] different content types that are related [00:08:57.219] to this specific topic here. [00:08:59.840] So you'll see, we have our book articles, those are [00:09:02.028] reference works. So shorter reference pieces, [00:09:04.719] we call them book articles just to make it a little more inviting [00:09:07.677] if your learning [00:09:09.807] community has access to Gale ebooks [00:09:12.129] and you have elementary leveled ebooks. [00:09:14.158] Those will also appear here as well. [00:09:16.298] So you'll see, I have a few ebooks that are [00:09:18.418] attached to my Gale Ebooks account that [00:09:20.489] are going to populate here for me as well. So I can [00:09:22.639] actually log into a full ebook right from [00:09:24.769] Gale and Context Elementary. [00:09:27.330] You'll see. We've got some pictures, we have a nice [00:09:29.460] video about supporting each other. So [00:09:31.538] you will find some social emotional [00:09:33.889] learning video content here as well. [00:09:36.057] If I click into this here, I'm just going to [00:09:38.239] pause it and we're not going to play through it. [00:09:40.399] But you'll see, this is a short one, this is a minute [00:09:42.840] and 25 seconds. So a really nice [00:09:44.918] quick way to get some information over to [00:09:47.019] students again. And a really nice [00:09:49.048] bell ringer just to play this nice [00:09:51.190] short video and have students maybe answer some questions [00:09:53.580] that you have assigned to them. [00:09:55.479] You'll see underneath the video itself. We do [00:09:57.489] include um the full [00:09:59.500] transcript here. So if students need the transcript, [00:10:02.019] we have that we also have closed captioning [00:10:04.460] on all of our videos here as well. [00:10:09.129] So let's go ahead and jump back [00:10:11.840] at the very bottom of these topic pages. We also [00:10:13.918] include related topics. So if your [00:10:16.158] students are working independently and you want [00:10:18.278] them to kind of continue learning on their own, [00:10:20.658] this related topics may be a good place [00:10:22.677] for them to go as well. So they kind of understand [00:10:25.129] working as a team now. [00:10:27.450] So maybe they also want to consider um avoiding [00:10:30.019] conflict, obviously, that's directly related [00:10:32.259] to working in a team. So maybe they want to jump to that [00:10:34.418] topic now. [00:10:37.869] But let me scroll up here. I'm just going to hit [00:10:40.048] keep reading, which is going to launch me into this [00:10:42.129] overview. It's going to pull forward the full text [00:10:46.070] and let's talk just a little bit on how we can use [00:10:48.389] an article within our classrooms here. [00:10:50.519] So I do want to show you a few different ways to [00:10:52.849] really make this content as accessible [00:10:55.057] as possible for students before we talk about [00:10:57.090] some teaching strategies. [00:10:58.750] So if you have students who need [00:11:00.820] excuse me, [00:11:03.109] um some additional support with their reading, [00:11:05.590] we have the ability to increase [00:11:08.190] and decrease the font size here. Scroll [00:11:10.609] down, you can see that [00:11:13.700] we also have the option to translate this [00:11:15.719] article. [00:11:18.729] So a lot of schools of course, have [00:11:20.750] a, a large Spanish speaking [00:11:22.798] population, you can translate [00:11:24.908] this to Spanish. I know a lot of places [00:11:26.969] I'm located in Michigan. So a lot of places [00:11:29.250] especially in Southeast Michigan [00:11:31.710] have a large student population who speaks Arabic. [00:11:34.109] So you can also translate to Arabic and [00:11:36.173] you'll see quite a few different language options [00:11:38.375] here as well. [00:11:39.705] So you can if you decide maybe to print [00:11:41.802] out this article for your students, [00:11:43.974] you could translate and maybe print some in Spanish, [00:11:46.173] maybe print them in English. You'll have that [00:11:48.264] capability here on the platform. [00:11:51.519] We also have these great display options here. [00:11:53.940] So again, if you have students who need [00:11:56.038] special support as they're reading, maybe [00:11:58.210] they need a background color to help them out. [00:12:00.690] Maybe they want a different font. You'll see, we do have [00:12:02.908] a dyslexia font. So if you're working with dyslexic [00:12:05.418] students or just students who have trouble [00:12:07.580] reading in general, this font may be helpful [00:12:09.960] for them [00:12:10.840] and then you'll see if we can change the line letter word spacing. [00:12:13.927] So this is really nice to kind of prep before [00:12:16.427] you work with your students. You'll see now it's quite [00:12:18.778] a bit different than when it started off as [00:12:20.820] so this is great to prep before you even [00:12:22.927] get started. So, you know, your students, best [00:12:24.940] of course, if you're working with a group [00:12:26.969] of students who are maybe struggling readers, [00:12:28.989] you may want to have all of this accessibility [00:12:31.940] feature turned on and ready to go for them before [00:12:33.989] you even start reading and, and have it ready. [00:12:36.927] I'm gonna turn it all off for today [00:12:39.080] back to my default settings [00:12:41.288] and these [00:12:43.307] accessibility tools, [00:12:45.739] sorry if I'm trying, I thought there these accessibility [00:12:48.080] tools do follow along as you move [00:12:50.119] forward through the session. So [00:12:52.379] if you're having students maybe read more than one [00:12:54.418] article. Once you have your parameters [00:12:56.778] set, you have all your features set, it will follow [00:12:58.820] along for them. [00:13:02.509] So another accessibility feature I want [00:13:04.590] to point out is our leveling options [00:13:07.557] you'll see at the very top of my page here. [00:13:09.769] I have the option to view a level one or [00:13:11.989] level two version of this [00:13:14.090] document. If I click into level one, [00:13:18.528] oops, looks like it signed me out [00:13:20.629] because I left it sitting [00:13:22.177] in my browser here. There we go. So [00:13:24.307] I started off here and I just selected level [00:13:26.450] one here on the left hand side. It's [00:13:28.469] going to pull forward a lower level of content [00:13:31.109] and our levels [00:13:32.798] are a stick with level two. [00:13:34.538] Um Our levels are based [00:13:36.649] on Lexa Ranges. So if you want to see the actual [00:13:39.359] lea of a document that you're planning on working on [00:13:41.830] with students, [00:13:43.229] you can go to this little article info button [00:13:45.668] in this right hand corner here [00:13:49.000] and it gives you the flex measure dropdown. So [00:13:51.090] you'll see you have two different options for this article. [00:13:53.859] Of course, one is at that higher level and one is at [00:13:55.950] that lower, you can toggle here as well. [00:13:58.788] So again, if you're trying to differentiate, maybe you do [00:14:00.849] have stations set up and you want some stations [00:14:03.229] to read the lower level of content. And [00:14:05.239] maybe you have some students who are excelling who [00:14:07.288] are may be ready to take a look at the higher level of content. [00:14:09.989] You can differentiate which students see what [00:14:12.129] piece of content and they're going to get the same information [00:14:15.119] just in a few different methods. So I [00:14:17.139] think this is a really nice feature for you as Well, [00:14:19.798] if you are working with a pretty diverse [00:14:22.090] group of students, we are trying to help [00:14:24.359] you here to have some different reading [00:14:26.399] levels. [00:14:29.269] But now let's [00:14:31.288] go ahead and take a look at this article here. So let me spur it onto [00:14:33.418] the actual text. I will point out you'll see. Sometimes [00:14:35.940] we have things like words to know, you [00:14:38.070] may want to bring to your students attention. [00:14:40.450] You see down here, we have an activity [00:14:42.599] available here as well. [00:14:44.719] If I go into my level two, [00:14:46.690] they'll most likely be slightly different. You'll see this has [00:14:48.788] main ideas, [00:14:50.349] this one has another activity, but it's a little bit [00:14:52.719] more advanced activities. So [00:14:54.840] these are often times helpful for you. So [00:14:56.979] if you're looking for a quick, you know, [00:14:59.580] quick activity to run in your class, [00:15:01.639] I recommend clicking into some of our articles. A lot [00:15:03.750] of times you will find we call them [00:15:05.778] sidebars even though they're in the middle of the page. [00:15:07.960] you may find activities, you also might [00:15:10.070] find things like critical thinking questions that you can [00:15:12.200] post to your students. So you find [00:15:14.229] a lot of [00:15:15.099] activity work kind of embedded within [00:15:17.219] our articles. But what I want to talk [00:15:19.389] about is close reading. [00:15:21.629] We actually have a, a great feature, our highlights [00:15:23.849] and notes feature that make it really helpful [00:15:26.009] if you're planning on close reading as a group. [00:15:28.399] So what we've seen a lot of educators do is [00:15:30.479] pull up whatever article they want to read with their [00:15:32.750] students. And of course they can pull it up [00:15:35.129] on their smart board or whatever projector [00:15:37.427] they're using. Or of course they can have students pull [00:15:39.489] it up individually. [00:15:40.940] I think it's most beneficial to pull it up on [00:15:43.070] the smart board and then work together. So you'll [00:15:45.278] start to read through this article [00:15:47.639] and you can ask students, let me know when you think [00:15:49.710] a piece of content or when you [00:15:51.830] think a sentence is really important and we're [00:15:53.859] going to highlight it [00:15:55.149] so we can run through. And you know, Timmy [00:15:57.580] told me that this sentence was really [00:15:59.639] helpful. So we're gonna highlight [00:16:01.788] that in purple [00:16:03.239] as you're reading through. Maybe Mary says, [00:16:05.298] wow, this, this sentence is really, [00:16:07.320] really important to what we're reading. This is giving us [00:16:09.769] maybe the the main points of this [00:16:11.840] page, we can highlight that again, [00:16:14.729] maybe I have another student who's saying, I don't [00:16:16.908] really understand what the sentence is. [00:16:19.119] So maybe that's going to be highlighted in yellow [00:16:21.489] and we can come back and kind of kind [00:16:24.349] of dig deeper into this sentence to see [00:16:26.389] exactly what it means. So this is a really [00:16:28.859] nice way to get students engaged in the [00:16:30.950] text instead of just reading through it, they're [00:16:33.153] going through their highlighting the key points. [00:16:36.104] Maybe they're highlighting things they don't quite understand. [00:16:38.854] And again, this can be done together as a large [00:16:41.274] group where the teacher is herself [00:16:44.075] is highlighting the bit of information [00:16:46.293] that students point out or it can be done [00:16:48.474] individually [00:16:50.219] and students can have to point it out on their own. [00:16:54.080] And if we are using this method where we're highlighting [00:16:56.340] and kind of keeping this information, may [00:16:58.619] we may want to keep those for later or maybe [00:17:00.739] students will be turning that into you. [00:17:02.690] So we have a few different collaborative tools that [00:17:04.798] may be helpful. So you can actually send [00:17:06.867] this over to Google classroom. You'll see my Google [00:17:09.028] classroom icon up top here. [00:17:11.239] So if you want to send all the information that way, [00:17:13.948] I'm not signed in, so I won't sign in today. [00:17:16.107] But you see it pops up into this little [00:17:18.178] window, you'll be able to create an [00:17:20.538] assignment, ask a question. Anything [00:17:22.586] you would be able to do within the native Google [00:17:24.659] classroom interface and you'll be able to post [00:17:26.916] it or you can [00:17:28.989] choose you or your students can choose [00:17:31.096] to send over to a Google drive or [00:17:33.307] a one drive and sending over to these drives does [00:17:35.458] keep the highlights along with the article. [00:17:37.538] So if you do assign students to [00:17:39.607] maybe highlighting the key points of an article [00:17:41.739] or highlighting the things that can, they confuse [00:17:44.140] them that they found most interesting, [00:17:46.337] you can have them send it over to a drive or [00:17:48.538] you can have it, you can have them email it to [00:17:50.597] you. If you have your email address [00:17:52.650] handy, you prefer that [00:17:54.209] it does again keep those highlights [00:17:56.357] and they can send that over to you. [00:17:59.317] This can also be downloaded or printed. [00:18:01.739] So again, if you prefer to have a hard copy, [00:18:04.259] you have that ability here. [00:18:06.500] But it's a really nice way to keep this. [00:18:09.719] So once we have all of this set, we [00:18:11.739] do kind of aggregate all of our highlights [00:18:14.067] and notes together on one page as well. [00:18:16.729] So if you want to take a look at that as a class, [00:18:18.808] we have them nice and neatly organized in a chart. [00:18:21.567] If you click into our highlights and notes option here, [00:18:25.827] you'll see what I have highlighted, but I'm going to hit [00:18:27.949] you all [00:18:31.180] and now we'll see the different sentences we have highlighted. [00:18:33.640] We'll see there are different highlight colors and we [00:18:35.650] can add notes here. [00:18:37.278] This is a great way just to have students [00:18:39.357] kind of see the overall view [00:18:41.680] of an article. This is really nice. If you want [00:18:44.058] to help students learn how to summarize [00:18:46.298] information, you can tell them, you know, highlights [00:18:48.778] the pieces of this text that are most important [00:18:51.160] that are going to give someone who's not [00:18:53.317] reading the actual text and understanding of [00:18:55.357] what it's saying. So they can highlight, [00:18:57.410] pull forward into this highlights and notes [00:18:59.538] option and they'll be able to [00:19:01.617] just read what they highlighted to see if it [00:19:03.660] really does make sense to see if they really [00:19:05.719] did summarize the text, [00:19:08.827] you'll see they can label their highlights as well. [00:19:11.019] So if they want to label these maybe [00:19:13.337] you'll see, I have a few different labels they've already used. [00:19:15.597] maybe they highlighted the introduction [00:19:17.847] of something. They can choose the highlights [00:19:19.890] and list that here. Um Again, if they [00:19:22.000] may be confused about something, [00:19:26.327] they can just note that here. And again, [00:19:28.449] they can save this for themselves. [00:19:30.617] They can choose to send this over somewhere if [00:19:32.689] they want to send it to their drives or if maybe they want [00:19:34.769] to email it to you, [00:19:37.759] they can download or they can print right here as [00:19:39.817] well. So this is another great way to [00:19:41.867] just have them kind of talk to the text [00:19:43.969] and pull it apart and really understand [00:19:46.259] what exactly it's trying to say [00:19:48.910] and then clicking into it. They can easily get [00:19:50.920] right back here [00:19:52.439] to this main page and make edits. However [00:19:54.680] they want to do that. [00:19:57.808] I want to jump back into my presentation [00:20:00.048] slides because of a few different bits [00:20:02.160] of inspiration for activities that I hope [00:20:04.209] will help you get this content to [00:20:06.390] your students. So do you have any questions [00:20:08.949] just about the content we took a look at or [00:20:10.969] a few of those different tools we explored? [00:20:16.449] OK. I don't see any. So I quickly [00:20:18.900] want to mention we have a lot of pre [00:20:21.058] creative activities already found [00:20:23.229] on our support site, which is support.gale.com [00:20:25.347] [00:20:26.577] And while a lot of these activities aren't specifically [00:20:29.009] focused on social and emotional learning, [00:20:31.288] they give you kind of a great template if you want [00:20:33.479] to get your students involved using that kind [00:20:35.788] of option. So the [00:20:37.910] first we have is a scavenger hunt. We have [00:20:40.298] a huge collection of scavenger hunts. [00:20:42.558] but these are great teams just to start up [00:20:44.577] as well. So if you want to have a scavenger hunt, maybe [00:20:46.827] about emotions or something like that, [00:20:48.930] you go ahead and edit this to include just content [00:20:51.288] related to emotions. [00:20:53.719] Another great way to get this content into your [00:20:55.798] classroom is using an escape room and [00:20:57.920] we do have a full blank escape [00:21:00.097] room on our support site for you. So [00:21:02.209] again, as you look for this specific [00:21:04.597] content you want, maybe it is working with the [00:21:06.607] team, maybe it's conflict resolution. [00:21:09.009] Maybe it's perspective taking, [00:21:11.209] you can build a full escape room around [00:21:13.327] that using the template we already have created on [00:21:15.390] the support site. So no reinventing [00:21:17.880] the wheel for you. [00:21:19.788] You also might want to consider trading cards. [00:21:21.867] We use those for a lot of different [00:21:23.900] topics within the resource. So you'll [00:21:26.038] see this one here. I pulled forward is just for solar [00:21:28.170] systems, but it could also be great for [00:21:30.327] emotions, you know, anger, sadness, [00:21:32.519] happiness, excitement. [00:21:34.140] And then on the back, you'll have them fill out [00:21:36.250] whatever information you want them to fill out. [00:21:38.923] When do people feel angry? How do people [00:21:40.982] express their anger? [00:21:42.442] And it's also a great idea to have them cite [00:21:44.452] their sources on the backs of these [00:21:46.702] trading cards as well. Within [00:21:49.045] the resource, we actually have a citation tool [00:21:51.094] where students could just click and get that citation [00:21:53.462] create, created for them. [00:21:55.025] It's an excellent way to have them practice citing [00:21:57.183] sources. [00:21:58.709] So nice, simple trading cards [00:22:01.430] and we also have things you'll see. This one here is [00:22:03.479] focused specifically on bullying. So this [00:22:05.630] one is kind of pulling forward that social [00:22:07.808] emotional learning, those life skills. [00:22:10.219] This one's in just an article [00:22:12.367] article report like a book report, [00:22:14.390] they find an article within Galan context elementary [00:22:16.910] that's about bullying [00:22:18.739] and then they read through the article, they [00:22:20.778] go over the why of the article, the [00:22:22.857] what did you learn? Reflections? And [00:22:25.009] then you see this one also has a class presentation [00:22:27.630] set up as well. [00:22:29.890] So these are just a few different ways that you can kind [00:22:32.097] of get in contact elementary [00:22:34.327] into your classroom. Instead of just [00:22:36.607] focusing on research projects. [00:22:38.617] Of course, we want your students to [00:22:40.630] use this for their research. Always, always. [00:22:42.788] But it also offers quite [00:22:44.900] a few different activity options to really [00:22:47.048] engage students electronically [00:22:49.538] as opposed to strictly [00:22:51.548] on paper. So [00:22:53.910] quite a few different new options for you [00:22:55.920] to take a look at there [00:22:59.650] and that's what I have for you today. We do have [00:23:01.699] a few minutes left. So I would love to answer questions, [00:23:04.430] that anyone may have left over again. [00:23:06.808] If you're looking for some more specific [00:23:08.890] activity suggestions, we do have [00:23:11.028] our support site where you can find those. So [00:23:13.140] if you want to pull that, blank [00:23:15.824] escape room, if you're planning and running in emotions, [00:23:18.144] escape room or a teamwork escape room, [00:23:20.505] you'll find that on our support site as well as [00:23:22.634] scavenger hunts. all that good [00:23:24.765] stuff, support.gale.com [00:23:26.814] I definitely recommend taking a look [00:23:28.903] if you do have the time. [00:23:31.489] If you have more questions about this or maybe [00:23:33.827] about Gale and contact elementary, just [00:23:36.087] in general, you can reach out to your customer [00:23:38.288] success manager. If you don't know who it is, [00:23:40.650] just send an email to gale.customersuccess@cengage.com [00:23:42.890] and they can help you [00:23:44.949] out. They can also work with you [00:23:47.009] to take a look at the support site. If you want to take a look [00:23:49.180] at the materials we have available, to [00:23:51.298] really integrate this into your lessons. [00:23:53.489] You can certainly do that [00:23:55.140] if you don't have access to Gale and Context [00:23:57.327] elementary right now, but you're interested, reach [00:23:59.558] out to your sales consultant. If you don't know [00:24:01.587] who they are, you can send I'm sorry, [00:24:03.630] you can go to support.gale.com/repfinder [00:24:05.788] and you'll be [00:24:07.808] forwarded to the correct individual and you can talk about [00:24:10.009] this resource with them, or maybe talk [00:24:12.140] about your gale ebooks and how you can get those integrated [00:24:14.597] within gale and context elementary. [00:24:17.798] And finally, I do have a quick session survey [00:24:20.160] here. If you have the time to take it, I have a QR [00:24:22.500] code posted. It's also going [00:24:24.538] to pop up in your browser once we're done here for [00:24:26.680] the day. But I would love for you to take that [00:24:28.817] just so we can make sure that we're always [00:24:31.038] kind of hitting what you're looking for [00:24:33.117] when you join these sessions. We want to make sure [00:24:35.269] that you're getting the content that you need.
